nebuluz
Nice Work... Working ok on my Laptop from EFI partition (883). Only thing are those error: Oct 21 00:30:01 nebuluz-aspire-9420 kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-157.1.24/AppleHDA/AppleHDAWidget.cpp" at line 1341 goto handler and sometimes i get some choppy bumps but not often, only when ive not been using anything that throws some sound for awhile. Any progress with V5 for 883?

B612
My problem is big, and it is called AD1986a. Can you do something about it? Here is the codec. Taruga had found a solution, based on AppleHDA.kext and ALCinject.kext, but in this case volume doesn't work, I cannot see anything in System Profiler and anyway it wouldn't work from EFI partition. Please let me know. dumpfile.txt
nathan7
Hi, Thank you your "Realtek ALC888 Address 0" driver works great for me with my munky EFI partition Boot-132 setup. I do get a pop before sounds if none have played in several minutes, and I get many many sound assertion errors in Console. I am looking forward to V5 in hopes that the issues may be addressed if possible.

~anima
Not working with my Ep45-ds3. It would be nuts if you could get this to work.
ximekon
STICKPIN: Thanks for all your efforts. This is simply stganding work your doing here!!! I am currently probing to get my Gigabyte EP35-DS3 to work ootb. So my boot 132 disk contains all the required drivers and it works, but no audio ootb. And I'd prefer to have everything running from the very beginning. Anyway the EP35-DS3 uses Realtec's ALC889a chipset. Two solutions exist for this chipset: 1. Stickpin's (your) great efforts 2. Taruga's pre-patched kexts So for now: Ad. 1) Stickpin, your solution does not work for me Ad. 2) works if getting installed to the /System/Library/Extensions folder (though no correct recognition in System Profiler, but at least I can hear something ; - ) So I tried to get Taruga's kexts to work on the Boot 132 disk, changed the Info.plist to even start in Safe Boot, but it does not work. As I could read Munky's post here, he says it simply does not work. Can anybody explain why it does not? Kudos, x!
Xenophage
Indeed - thanks a million. While Taruga is away, you seem to be the only one paying any attention to the 889a. I used your kexts by simply dropping them into my iDeneb 1.3 install. Not optimal, I admit, and not the way you intended them to be used. One of these days I'll dive into the whole vanilla install scene, but not yet. In the meantime, however, your kexts are working brilliantly on my GA-EP35-DS4 Rev. 2.1 (F5 BIOS). I had four ins and four outs working nicely before with a Taruga-style patch, but nothing useful in the System Profiler. Now there is fairly accurate info there. Coaxial SPDIF works wonderfully for two-channel sound. Not sure if it's even supposed to be able to output more channels via coax. Optical digital output doesn't do anything, which is a shame - I used it all the time with my G5. Still, this is a very nice step forward. I am, as we all are, in your debt. Thanks again. ximekon
Also reporting problems with 889a on Gigabyte P35-DS3. The Mic in actually works, but the input volume seems to be very low it hardly records my voice (and I'm screaming .). The line out works, but it makes some strange noises, specially if you do not reproduce any sounds for a while... I think, I got the same Mobo. would you please answer me some questions: 1. are you referring to the Gigabyte EP35-DS3 board (not DS3L or DS3R!!) 2. did you install with Boot 132 CD and retail? 3. which version of Leopard are you currently running (i.e. 10.5.1 or 10.5.5 or anything else) Thanks in advance, x! Xenophage
Well, I spoke too soon. While all was working perfectly this morning, just as I described it above, this evening I installed Little Snitch for the first time on this machine. That broke everything. No trace of any sound. I went back to my previous solution (a patch made with Taruga's patcher, along with ALCInject) and all is well. Just to be sure, I switched things back to the stickpin method - no sound, back to tarugapatch - everything works (as well as it did before, at least.) Very strange indeed. ximekon
after weeks of digging into that AppleHDA thing: current status from what I understood sofar: Get yourself another hobby, AppleHDA kexts destroy your family life dig a hole from europe to australia, you'll be finished a lot sooner than understanding AppleHDA configurations the Gigabyte GA EP35-DS3 and the GA35-DS3R seem not be compatible in meaning of getting sound I modified Stickpin's Legacy files and I am getting closer, now with a little success it is possible to have an unpatched clean /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext and applying the LegacyApple thing and it plays sound well. there is only one tiny little issue ;-) currently my output is only mapped to the microphone-ext Don't tell me things I don't know: yes this mapping is still PITA and yes: I am gonna re-read King's tutorial on that matter and try to fix it. But that's it for now. Drink or die. I provide my kexts for testing only. I would really appreciate to get any feedback from the GA EP35-DS3 guys out there (like mes amis francais!!). Throw them into the /Volumes/EFI/Extensions folder rebuild the EFI Extensions.mkext restore original AppleHDA.kext to /S/L/E/ (change permissions ect.) rebuild the native /S/L/Extensions.mkext reboot plug your output to the microphone-ext tell us if you can hear something read King's tutorial and finish my dilettantish experiments ;-) dig a hole from australia to europe Thanks, x! alc889a_wrongmapped.zip
EnzoFX
No EFI here, on MBR, from what I gather, I would: Install kexts normally, repairing permissions then delete extensions.mkext Boot with -f flag Is this correct? Secondly, I've always used ALCinject and appleHDA kexts for audio and worked great up until the other day when I mysteriously lost sound after updating to the latest iTunes. Do I delete these 2 extensions? Or do I keep appleHDA.kext? I don't think it's a vanilla/original appleHDA.kext.
