AppleVIAATA over 4gb RAM bug solved (at least i believe so)! JMicron and AppleNForceATA at development

I tried to build applenforceata with new 10.6 sdk on SL and that's what I get. nforcebuild.txt 27 errors and 40 warnings.

The API has changed. Look at the errors. There are 3 errors:

1- error: 'IOATAIOReg8' has not been declared

2- error: 'IOATAIOReg32' has not been declared

3- error: request for member 'release' in '*((AppleNForceATA*)this)->AppleNForceATA::<anonymous>.IOPCIATA::

I'm moving PCs right now. But maybe in a week or two I can get SL and try and fix this.

Woohoo! Then all I gotta wait for is the voodoo kernel to be updated for snow leopard.

680i. Remember nForce chipsets were not part of the vanilla kernel until the aluminum body macbook pro's came out. The ones before that with nForce chipsets weren't supported.

I know, i meant that you don't need a voodoo kernel for SL because vanilla kernel works (all cores no KP), unlike leopard vanilla kernel like 9.8.0 that works only with cpus=1.

Well that's good for you. However how did you get the AppleNForceATA.kext working in SL without it being compiled for it? I'd run system profiler to be sure it's actually loaded and isn't using one of the native kext's that is in SL by default.

It's working in 32bit mode (see my sign); it's the only thing that prevent me to boot with 64 bit support.

Can you run system profiler to check if the kext is actually loaded?

If it hadn't working, my computer simply wouldn't boot.

The kext isn't in that list. A native apple one is it seems. Makes sense with your chipset.

If you're not using ahci, you're usind ide mode which doesn't require that kext at all. That kext is if your motherboard is in ahci mode with an nforce chipset. That's why it works.

Sata mode is ahci mode, so your chipset does support it. I've got the same chipset. And yes that kext does support ahci mode as its the mode my hard drives are in.

So then why is the kext working in SL when it was compiled for Leopard?

AHCI mode is supported on my bios as an option. I've got an asus p5n32-e sli plus motherboard. So I will try this suggestion of editing the appleahciport plist file in that kext.

i installed the viaata.kext and i no longer have the "still waiting for root device" error but now i am stuck on "timed out waiting for IOKit to quiesee". I am not able to boot. The screen goes blank after few minutes.

For me the issue is/was in the ATA controller of my chipset. See my sig for solution.

This isn't for mac's. It's for hackintoshes. If your mac is freezing, take it to an apple store.

I've been using the updated nForce driver on my chipset (mcp55) for a few months...

-MCP 55 SATA

-AMD x2 64 (2.2ghz)

-4GB RAM

Basically, when using the new driver (which fixes the kernel panics) I've noticed by disk read/write is absolute {censored}.

I'm getting about 112mb/sec in xbench on my sata drives (7200 RPM)

I should be getting atleast double that

In Windows (win7.x64) my disks benchmark at 280-320mb/sec

I seem to recall some ppl having speed issues with this driver

Is there any way to get some of my disk performance back without going to SL? (my motherboard doesnt support DSDT)

If it matters (shouldn't) I'm using iDeneb 1.4 with Voodoo kernel

AppleVIAATA over 4gb RAM bug solved (at least i believe so)! JMicron and AppleNForceATA at development
