Hi verdant. need some help with my setup. i think i am so close to getting it.

EVGA 750i FTW mobo

Intel Q6600 (stock speed) cpu

ASUS Geforce GTX 280

8GB DDR2 1066 ram

SATA DVD drive

IDE HDD for leopard

Realtek 8139 ethernet

I have tried many of the latest releases such as iAtkos 5i, iDeneb 1.4, JaS 10.5.4, leo4all and all get stuck at still waiting for root device or whatever that error is.

The only one thay lets me install it is iPC 10.5.6 PPF5 but after it installs it never boots. The default kernel keeps restarting and others such as voodoo or stage xnu get stuck on what seems to be a network related message and/or found 0 units.

I applied the 1.1 ppf patch to iPC final (the one with the 5th patch applied) in order to get the NforceATATest drivers but still no luck. Here is what I keep getting (with the Realtek card in)

2lij879.jpg

and this with the nForceLAN driver by neo:

2upect5.jpg

I checked the pdf with the correct 750i BIOS settings and looked here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...blogid=284& for more support.

I have only picked the following settings:

Kernel -> Voodoo 9.5.0

Video -> darwin 1024

Audio -> Azalia

Chipset -> AppleNforceATAor AppleNForceATATest by medevil (not both at the same time)

Ethernet -> NforceLAN driver by neo or Realtek 8139

Patched USB Drivers

Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5

AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 Mac Pro

UUID Fix

The console says "AppleNforceATA: found 1 units" a bit above, unless thats the dvd drive.

Also when i run the diagnostic on the iPC dvd it finds the board as a 750i and also reports my cpu as a quad core along with all 8gb of ram.

I had Kalyway 10.5.2 installed on this PC but the only difference is that I had the 8800 GTX and now I have the 280 GTX. and it was also installed on a different PC then swapped the HDD. But cant replicate it because I dont remember the settings :(

Is the GTX 280 causing all of this or is the 750i a bad board for a hackintosh (the compat list doesnt say)

The best way is to initially install without choosing a video, network or audio driver in the Customize menu of the OS X install distro you are using......the optimum drivers for these functions can be installed after you have got the basic OS X system running OK.......this is especially true of video drivers...... ;)

AS for your GTX 280 graphics card, the 10.5.7 release version may now support it and Snow Leopard should support it in terms of CI/QE.....

BTW can you please delete your post from my other thread......thanks..... :)

Hey all,

I've been having fun messing around with 7, but now I think I'd like to try OSX. Anyway, super new to hackingtosh here, do I just download a distro and start installing? Any pointing to right direction is appreciated.

Start at post #1 in this thread and read also the posts between Metallica35 and myself in this thread......as well as my blog install guides....... ;)

Also, with your EVGA nforce 750i SLI FTW MOBO, you MUST have RAID Enable set to [Enabled], so that you can enable or disable the SATA functions.

This because WHEN you set RAID Enable to [Disabled], all SATA functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed, yet you want to set Serial-ATA Controller [All Enabled]......

so will i just install the NforceATATest chipset drivers with nothing else? like no fixes?

Choose from iPC Customize menu as follows:

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Base System (installed by default with AppleDecrypt.kext and Disabler.kext)

Language Translations - Optional

iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Intel AMD SSE2 SSE3

Kernels - 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel

Drivers - Video Drivers - None

Drivers - Chipset Drivers - AppleNForceATA nForce Drivers (see below)

Drivers - Audio Drivers - None

Drivers - Ethernet Drivers - None

Drivers - USB Drivers - Patched USB Drivers

Fixes and Patches - Seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 (must be installed if Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel is installed)

Fixes and Patches - AppleSMBIOS Patch - AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 Mac Pro

Applications - Optional but all selected except Marvin's AMD Utility

As you have more than 2GB MOBO RAM, try slashack's AppleNForceATA.kext, which enables >3GB operation but some SATA DVDRWs have issues with it......if this is the case, then you will have to use MeDevil's AppleNForceATA_Test.kexr with maxmem=3072 set under Kernel Flags in your com.apple.Boot.plist file.....see post #1......

^ but I don't have 780i, I have 750i. Is it the same?

OK, I've read through the guide on how to istall iatkos v1.0i r3 or kalyway 10.5.2 DVD, but do I start with that version and then update, or should I just find the latest iatkos or kalyway version? Also, I have a retail DVD image of leopard, 10.5.4 I think. Will I be able to do anything with that?

You need to check in your BIOS setup......I mentioned the 780i FTW because you have a EVGA 750i FTW MOBO so the BIOS is likely to be the same......and so my guess is that you MUST have RAID Enable set to [Enabled], so that you can enable or disable the SATA functions.

If you have iatkos v1.0i r3 and kalyway 10.5.2 DVD.....either or both may work for you......however, your SATA DVDRW may cause problems......

You could either install 10.5.2 and then update to 10.5.6 or 10.5.7, or download a 10.5.6 distro and update to 10.5.7.......however, to get used to OSx86, I suggest the former route........

Really? I don't know about the 780i, but my 750i SATA Controller is on [all enabled] already, and I have the RAID function on [disabled].

Again, really? I read somewhere that you need a SATA drive to install leopard, but it doesn't matter cuz I can probably get an IDE dvd drive.

is there any major change from 10.5.2 to 10.5.6 -7?

It may mean that once you have set SATA Controller options and then disable RAID, the SATA Controller settings cannot be changed, and vice versa......anyways, according to the 750i FTW manual p.35:

Serial-ATA Controller

This function allows you to enable specific SATA controllers, enable all controllers, or disable all

controllers. The options available are [sATA-0], [sATA-0+1], [Enable All], and [Disabled].

RAID Config

Press Enter to display the RAID Config menu.

RAID Enable [Enabled]

SATA 0 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 0 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

RAID Enable

Use this function to enable or disable RAID. When RAID is set to [Disabled], all SATA functions

are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed.

SATA x Primary/Secondary

When RAID Enable is set to [Enabled], you can enable or disable the various SATA functions.

@ MacNCheez

It depends on the MOBO but generally a SATA HDD and PATA DVDRW presents the fewest issues for most MOBOs although some seem to work best with SATA devices....however, the main issue relates to the AppleNForceSATA.kexts......

slashack's AppleNForceATA kext enables 64 bit RAM addressing and hence >3GB RAM operation but some SATA DVDRWs may have issues with it, whereas MeDevil's AppleNForceATA_Test.kext enables SATA DVDRW operation but does not enable 64 bit RAM addressing requiring one to use maxmem=3072 under Kernel Flags in com.apple.Boot.plist....

One of the significant changes from OS X 10.5.0/.1 to OS X 10.5.2 to 10.5.6/.7 relates to OS X graphics card support in terms of ATI*, Ge* and NVD* kexts, as well as OpenGL frameworks etc......

sweet. i have iPC 10.5.6 loading now. thanks verdant :)

heres what i used:

Kernel -> Voodoo 9.5.0

Chipset -> AppleNForceATAtest by medevil

Patched USB Driver

Seatbelt.kext

UUID Fix

No audio, lan or video drivers.

Then from leopard I installed Azalia Audio Drivers which work fine, also NForceLAN Driver by neo and Realtek8139 Drivers but I still cannot connect to internet :(

In network options it finds both cards but DHCP assigns a wrong (default) IP address. How do I fix that? The pc is conected to an ADSL modem/router and should get ip automatically.

Also when I installed the darwin 1024mb video drivers the OS stopped working so that was the problem all along. Becuase of the lack of video drivers the screen doesnt update properly, i.e. if you scroll or move the window stuff is on top of another.

Any idea if 10.5.7 supports the GTX 280 at all? Or a decent update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 to try it out?

Hi all. This is my first foray into the world of hackintosh...

Last night i tried to install iPC 10.5.6 final on my computer. My specs are:

evga nforce 780i sli mobo with 2.05v bios and the 780 nforce chipset

intel core2quad q6600 cpu 2.4ghz (stock) not OCed

evga 8800gt 320mb gpu

OCZ 800mhz ram (8 gigs)

2 SATA HDD first=250 gigs with vista 64 on it; 2nd 80 gigs (destination for OSx86)

1 SATA dvd drive

I have my bios set up the way was suggested on the 1st page of this thread.

When booting off dvd everything goes good i part the HDD into 3 parts 1st part=10g 2nd part=32g 3rd part=32g and set it as MBR ive tried choosing appropiate drivers as well as basic config. the install is a success...but when i go to restart and boot off 80g HDD using -v -f maxmem=2048 flags i get a waiting to root device hang. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It is unusual to need the UUID Fix......?

Were you getting CFGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35 and ISDGetHostUUIDString: unable to determine UUID for host. Error: 35 error messages after installation.....?

Did you repair permissions after installation?

The latest release version of 10.5.7 may support the GTX 280 but it is more likely to require Snow Leopard.

hi verdant.

solved the LAN problem with a newer driver so the only problem remains the video.

is there any way to change the 1024x768 default resolution without a proper driver? maybe to 1680x1050 or 1900x1200?

If you have installed video kexts, then do as follows:

1. After rebooting by typing -s at the boot: prompt and waiting for the prompt

:/ root# to appear, type each of the following lines, followed by Enter and then waiting for :/ root# to re-appear:

mount -uw /

cd /System/Library/Extensions

rm -rf Ge*.kext

rm -rf NV*.kext

followed finally by exit.

"logout" will then appear on screen followed by "Jettisoning kernel linker" and the rest of the verbose booting screen, resulting in successful booting into the OS X Welcome screen and music.....

2. The System Profiler shows under Graphics/Displays, 1024x768 resolution 32-bit Color depth and 32MB VRAM with Software Driven CI and QE Not Supported, and against Kernel Extension Info: No kext loaded

Then, you can run in VESA mode without hardware CI/QE.....as follows:

Modify the com.apple.Boot.plist file as follows:

1. Go to the Terminal, and at the $ prompt, type in

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

2. Enter your password when requested. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move the cursor within the Terminal window.

3. Type in (without any spaces anywhere except where there are spaces)

"Graphics Mode"="1280x1080x32@60" BUT using your display resolution.....

between <string> and </string> under <key>Kernel Flags</key>.

4. Move the cursor the Terminal window down until it no longer moves, then press Ctrl O and then Enter, to save the modified com.apple.Boot.plist file.

5. Press Ctrl X to Exit and type "exit" at the $ prompt to log out of the Terminal and then close and quit Terminal.

Your setup seems close enough to mine so heres what I did to get it working.

You should try patching the Final ISO (PPF5 one) with the v1.1 patch which adds MeDevils AppleNforceATATest chipset drivers. Heres the ppf here http://www.mediafire.com/?umi4zmdjk5g and some very helpful thread here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;showentry=551 (also says how to get the onboard nforce LAN working :whistle: )

Then I installed with the following options:

Kernel -> Voodoo 9.5.0

Chipset -> AppleNForceATATest by medevil

Audio -> Azalia

Other Drivers -> Patched USB Drivers

Fixes & Patches -> Seatbelt 10.5.5, Shutdown/Restart Fix, UUID Fix

Bios -> AppleSMBIOS-27 Rev3 Mac Pro

Apps -> whatever you want but I suggest only installing basics

Oh and unplug any other HDDs, CD/DVD drives, peripherals until everything works fine. Just leave in your DVDRW drive and HDD that you're using to install OSX.

Once it boots up, install the video drivers because they are the nastiest in my case.

Hope it works for you too

For OS X to bootable it must be installed on a primary volume partition and not on a logical (i.e. extended) volume partition......

Also, it probably needs to be made active.......see here.....also you can install Chameleon 2.0RC1 on the 1st 10GB OS X volume.....and EasyBCD 1.7.2 in Vista.....so that you have a bootloader that can access Vista and OS X on each HDD.....

by repair permissions i assume you mean in osx86 tools?

i didnt install any video drivers myself because i cannot find any gtx 280 drivers for 10.5.6 only for snow leopard. i suppose the way you described to change the res wont work without the driver?

is there a 10.5.7 combo update that will just update my version without much fiddling?

Repair permissions of kexts in the Extensions folder via Terminal as follows:

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo chmod -R go-w /System/Library/Extensions/

No, the procedure I posted involves deleting the Ge* and NVD* kexts (i.e. the video kexts)......you will be running in Vesa 3.0 mode using the inbuilt onboard framebuffer......

You could try the iDeneb 10.5.7 updater, or wait for the Mysticus C* version.......he is presently setting up the new website:

How would i install it? From usb? or burn to a disk? Sorry if I seem noobish bout it. :thumbsup_anim:

Start by installing EasyBCD 1.7.2 in Vista first.......see if it sets up the bootloader to enable you to boot to OS X from the Windows bootloader......if it does, then boot to OS X and then download and run the Chameleon installer pkg.....

ok so what i did was use the ipc final dvd. I installed easy bsd in vista, then during the installation of osx86, I parted the disk in thirds, 1st part bout 10g 2nd part bout 45g and 3rd part=rest of disk. I formated With MBR option, then i went to terminal and made that disk active using this guide

and chose the 9.5 voodoo kernel as suggested by sd_dracula and viola it booted!.

I installed chameleon and osxtools and whatever else i could install from my main HDD...but...i now do not have an ethernet device detected and i do not have any audio...
