ok, so I deleted (forcedeth, nvenet, nFEC was not there ), rebooted, -v -f -s, removed Extensions in /S/L

now I'm stuck on some crashreport loop...resetting IOCatalogue... I've been trying to search for this error here in the boards... any ideas?

Are there any driver related errors appearing before the crash?.......with the number of errors you are getting you may save time in the long term with a clean re-install of 10.5.6 or 10.5.7....

Hi Verdant!

It's so hard to give up when the install is so close! :(

Well, it's definetly a CPU issue because using CPUs=1 still boots fine and is perfectly stable. But now I've lost ethernet, even went back and installed the nForceLAN.kext and repaired permissions...system preferences says cable isn't plugged in...

the error said something about fsevent? There are just so many lines so fast I don't really see much in the logs other than kextd in crashreporter.

read in here that forcedeth kext is the default lan network for this MB

when I installed it I got LAN back.

I think that is an earlier version than the nForceLAN.kext by eno......see here......how is it for large data transfers......?

I would be interested to know if the 0.62.13n version (32bit) of eno's nForceLAN kext works on your MOBO.....as it works well on my MOBO.....

ok thanks, i'm going to try that one right now. I just rebooted with only -v and confirmed that it only crashes after I open a browser window. I'm able to see 4 cores in system profiler and 4GB.

Gimme a sec and I'll let you know what happens.

(so close yet so far!)

re 0.62.13n:

just downloaded netbeans ide, 148MB @ 1.7MB/sec average...all was going well then it KP at the very end as soon as it completed. The good news is that the new driver recognized my second ethernet port!

should I try 64.0, this or this one?

Try eno's nForceLAN.kext 0.64.0 (Tiger/Leopard: i386) with Leopard......have only 1 LAN port enabled in BIOS....

ok, 64.0 here I go then :(

nope, no difference. here is a summary: the three times I tested downloading (forcedeth, 62.13, 64)

forcedeth:

KP immediately after opening a browser window, but not so with cpus=1...

62.13:

showed KP at what appeared to be the end of the download, but once I rebooted, only 18MB seemed to have been written... 62.13 recognized the 2nd GigE ethernet port, both w/diff MAC addresses that match.

64.0:

same as KP, but startted to verify the download and then when mounting began KP. Upon reboot, 143.4 / 143.3 MB sized file downloaded. (huh?) Tried to check if it was a timing issue, perhaps too many cpus... rebooted with cpus=1 just to check it...died again when it tried to mount the downloaded DMG

KP says:

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: diskimages-helpe

nah, this has to do with mounting drives... I just tried to mount a 21MB dmg and ...KP

this isn't network related...

If you are using the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel, make sure you have the 9.5.0 System.kext installed but also the 10.5.5 (9.5.0) seatbelt.kext.......

For the seatbelt.kext see here......

system.kext was the correct one, changed seatbelt.kext (v 107.10) to match 9.5.0 voodoo kernel and wouldn't you know it? downloaded 143MB Netbean dmg, and mounted and system *appears* stable....so far. I'll test some more as I use it. Any suggestions on what to test...some common things perhaps?

I don't want to cry Eureka just yet :)

that's EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI, no flags, running 9.5.0 Voodoo kernel. If my testing goes well, I'll make a package extension install.

Bugs

1. iSight (fw one), crashed my keyboard and mouse

Check for mouse lag if you have QT7.6 installed.....and test stability of data transfers operations......NTFS read/write if you need to.....assume you have full CI/QE and on-the-fly switchable resolutions.....

thanks, will do. So long as I don't plug anything into FW, USB, its stable...although now that I think of it, both things (camera, migliaHD mini) were video related...I had a FW HD plugged into it and it was working just fine, playing songs, transferring files etc.

I have the MSI 9600GT OC card... may need to read around a bit to make sure it's not the VC. Oddly, if I plugged in isight again, I'd see the video just fine again, just lost keyboard/mouse.... plugging either in/out didn't bring them back.

Gotta review console for errors I sorta glanced last night before giving up for the night. Tried to ssh but connection was refused...

Thanks again for everything! I'm learning quite a bit!

Glad to help and that you are learning more and more.........as you learn, you can help other nForce MOBO owners too........lightening my load....... ;)

Heyy there! thank you in advanced for the wonderful help and time you have taken out of your day TO help... My system....

EVGA 750i sli ftw

intel core 2 duo 1.86 ghz (5900 i think)

2 gigs of ocz mem

evga 7950 gt ko

3x 500 gig WD sata hds

sata dvd drive

So i have finally managed to get Leopard installed using iPC 10.5.6 (IT IS THE only disk that would work for me)

I can boot up fine (little slow) but i have to use cpus=1.... There is no error message due to the fact that if i do -v and cpus=1 it instantly reboots the computer.. any ideas?

Thanks!

matthew~

Sounds like the wrong kernel is installed.....

Did you choose to install the Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel.....?

If not, do so and use matching 9.5.0 System.kext and 9.5.0 seatbelt.kext......for the seatbelt.kext see here......

1. Download and mount Voodoo_Kernel_Release_1.0_Rev_A.dmg to access the 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel.pkg....

2. Use Pacifist to extract the Voodoo mach_kernel and System.kext from the 9.5.0 Voodoo Kernel.pkg to your Desktop.....

3. Copy the Voodoo mach_kernel from the Desktop to the / i.e. root directory

cd /Users/"username"/Desktop/
sudo mv mach_kernel /mach_kernel.Voodoo

4. Copy the System.kext to /System/Library/Extensions and repair permissions

sudo mv System.kext /System/Library/Extensions/System.kext
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo chmod -R go=u-w /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/
exit

5. Modify your com.apple.Boot.plist file using your favourite .plist editor or TextEdit....

Under the Kernel key, put mach_kernel.Voodoo between <string> and </string>

6. Reboot with -v -f

Delete the following files from root if present:

mach_kernel.ctfsys

mach_kernel

BTW mach_kernel.voodoo is dated 6 December, 2008 14:10 and is 5.9 MB in size

Thank you so very much! I must donate after that.. lol. The 13th when i get paid hehe.

Next question.. Why does it say my cpu is running at 1.5 ghz.. when i have it oc'd to a 2.8.. :/ I do not get it. cpu-x shows my fsb rate is correct, but it shows my actual fsb incorrect. any ideas?

Thanks so much!

What SMBIOS did you choose......?

I chose uh... the 800 mhz ddr2 one.. It was one of the first choices i believe ?

ALSO, When i do NVDarwin 512.. (I am using a 512 7950GT KO pciE vid card... I get this mouse glitch when i boot.. it boots to a black screen, and the mouse point in the top left.. and then when i move mouse, i have a double mouse.. the one pointer is still frozen and the other moves around but it boots no further then that :S so i am forced to use nvinject. which i hate. lmao.

I heard someone talking about a graphics fix for a mouse glitch.. but was unsuccessful in finding anything to do with it.

forgot to mention..... when installing with appleSMBIOS 800mhz and NVdarwin 512 .. i can get it to boot perfect in safe mode... everything shows great even the CPU speed and such. all shows correct. system information is all correct.. but wont boot normally.. tried cpus=1.. no go.

also might sound stupid :S but as much as i search.. i can not find the exact model of my onboard sound :*(.. i need to get optical out.. and i have failed misserably in doing so lol.

SIR thank you so very much for your help.. I am enlisted Coast Guard in the US and we rely a lot on teamwork.. so thanks for your help! you will receive a donation from me!!=

UPDATE: system profiler issue fixed by using the correct SMBIOS <3 :) BEAUTIFUL.

now just the video problem and audio... why the hell would nvdarwin work perfect on safe boot.. but not regular??

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Found out the video issues..... apparently the evga 7950 gt ko is not a very supported card.... swapped it out for my 7800 :(.. but it now works..... EVERYTHING is almost working except for sound.... Also any idea on how to get my 7950 working? It really does have a huge boost in video from the 7800... and playing WoW is a pain in the ass without it. thanks!

AFAIK it has the Azalia Audio HDA audio codec possibly Realtek ALC888 chipset.....

For the 7950GT KO have you tried NVEnabler.....? Also have you PCIClassMatched the nVidia graphics kexts as explained in post #1?

Thanks for the response! quickly for i dive into what i was going to say.. Is there an IRC channel that you reside on?

No i have not tried NVEnabler.. I did go ahead and do the PCIClassMatched instructions earlier. ALC888 is pretty popular. i don't understand why i am having such big issues trying to get optical out on it..

Quick question. When installing a new driver..Say.. a new audio driver.. Must i go and remove the older drivers first? Are there specific steps in doing this?

No, I am not on IRC......I respond on this topic so that the largest number can be helped at the same time if and when they read the posts.....

Use Kext Helper b7 to install new kexts.....it backs up the old kexts and sets the permissions of the new kexts.....if you do not want to keep a kext just drag and drop it to Trash.....

For ALC888 kexts, try here......and see here....
