With 6GB RAM you should be using slashack's AppleNForceATA kext......either v0.1 or UNTESTED version......see post #1 in this thread.......or set maxmem=3072 in com.apple.Boot.plist......

For audio you need a ALC888 driver......try the driver here from THe KiNG.....

Thanks I will try that. I used the AppleNForceATA kext that comes on the iAtkos v7 disk, is that different?

All the kext versions are typically called AppleNForceATA......so I am not sure as I do not have iATKOS v7

Start with setting up your BIOS acording to post #1........temporarily remove one of your graphics cards.......also be aware that you cannot run OS X on hard drives set up with MOBO BIOS software RAID......you need to install OS X on a primary partition.......do you want to install OS X on its own hard drive or on a volume with Windows on it?

I did the bios settings but I didnt see anything regarding [iDE] [AHCI] or the jmicron controller. I want to install each os in its own hard drive, or will raid 0 work best?

My nForce topics are for nForce chipset + Intel CPU MOBOs.......whereas you have an AMD CPU.....so I do not have BIOS settings for your MOBO......

Not all BIOS setups have an explicit AHCI setting for SATA mode......or a Jmicron controller on the MOBO

Installing OS X on its own hard drive is best......but you can set up OS X with Apple software RAID if you wish.....

You should install OS X on a primary partition and I recommend that as a beginner you partition your hard drive as Master Boot Record (MBR) and format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).....

Suggest that you update to 10.5.7 without choosing a video driver, only install the fixed nVidia graphics kexts......then run the NVdarwin installer......if you still have problems, then try CoreVidia v1.1 and netkas Universal injector with correct VRAM amount, or aqua-mac's drivers + GFX strings approach

I can't seem to get anything to work... was able to update without a video driver checked to install and it booted fine. I tried nvdarwin... it boots but my display is still 1024x768. Same thing happens with CoreVidia. I'm using a EVGA 8800GTS (G92). It seems to detect the card, but I can't change the display. Any ideas? I'm at a loss for what to do.

Thanks in advance.

Im sooo sorry but how do I do that? I will give you a donation, I know im gonna b a pain the @##

should i remove one drive and install osx first instead of doing a dual boot?

I am going to have some food now but in the meantime re-read post #1 and posts in the thread and my blog......this will give you a better feel for OS X on x86......OK?

I will return to helping you as soon as I am free to do so...... ;)

A SATA HDD and IDE DVDRW may work better than an IDE HDD and IDE DVDRW.......remember to initially install OS X without a video, network and audio driver......first focus on getting the basic OS X system running.......the appropriate video, network and audio driver can be installed afterwards.......

Have you tried switching your monitor connector cable to the other port on your video card.......?

Also, have you installed PCIClassMatched nVidia graphics kexts......see post #1.....

Alright, I got it working... took me like 3 hours today, but I finally figured it out. After fighting with nvinject, and nvdarwin, I finally gave up, started fresh with the drivers in the patch you made available (without nvdarwin, natit, or nvinject). So with those drivers, and the Aqua-mac technique, the video card is now working. I also decided to "be bold" like you stated in your guide, and the nvidia test lan driver worked great. The alc888 drop file I found way back in October also worked with the HDA patcher and my onboard digital out audio port works as well. Looks like I'm done messing with hardware. Thanks, Verdant. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

Hi Brad,

Glad you got it working again and glad to help.......a simplified write-up here of what you did to get ALC888 audio with SPDIF out and video working with links will help others with the same GFX card, as some report having difficulties with the aqua-mac procedure.... ;)

Hi Verdant, I know is out off topic, but the the Pre-Series 7 thread is closed (dunno why) and I've been reading it fully and I can't make boot any install (Kaly 1052, iDeneb 1055, LeoV3). Probably is my DSDT not compatible, I want to try iPC 10_5_6, but it has so many options that I don't know what to choose and as you have a huge experience with nforce chipsets I wonder if you would be able to help me with:

-Kernel

-Chipset Driver

-USB Driver

-Power Management

-Fixes and Patches

-DSDT Patches

-AppleSMBIOS Patch

-Alternate Bootloaders (If I select a DSDT patch, do I need to install Chameleon SMBIOS/DSDT? Im very confortable with tboot...)

I'm not going to install any drivers for audio, lan or video, I just want to boot into Leo install and then look for the appropriate drivers.

Thanks in advance!

Hey verdant,

First of all i would like to thank you for all the effort you have put into this i was hoping to get iPC installed on the following hardware

eVGA nForce 780i FTW

intel core 2 quad q9550

eVGA geForce GTX 260 core 216 55mm

WD 250gb serial ata HDD

Lite-on serial ata dvd burner/reader

on-board LAN and Audio (i am willing to spend the money for a NIC if nesesary)

i see that in ipc installation there are many options if you could have a look at all the options and tell me on which to choose or even tell me how to install the drivers afterward that would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advanced

Accepting your request... here is a write-up on what I did to make my Video Card and Onboard Optical Digital Sound work with the 10.5.7 update procedure found on the guide found here. I used this guide to get the iAtkos v1.0i r3 installed.

Video Card and technique: This is a slightly strange technique, and could probably be done differently, but the technique worked for me. I probably could have explained the technique I would take NOW if I had to start all over, but I wanted to be thorough in my explanation and let everyone know exactly what I went through to make it work. My apologies for such a long post. Anyways. Please note I had Windows installed on a separate hard drive, and had a program called MacDrive to browse my Macintosh-formatted drives. I had MacDrive installed just in case I installed a kext that didn't let me boot back into my Mac install. If I did install something that messed it up, I could browse my Macintosh-formatted drive with MacDrive while in Windows and delete the bad kext.

BFG Tech GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

After installing from the iAtkos v1.0i r3 DVD, I then updated using the patches and guide provided by Verdant at the link above. During the original install at the "STEP C - PROCEDURE FOR UPDATING" #11. Under 4. Graphics Fix I selected all the GFX Fix options (I have a Nvidia chipset) and for Video I selected the nvdarwin option. I was having problems getting my install to boot at this point so I had to clean up my Kexts. I went into Windows, used the MacDrive program and browsed my Macintosh drive to find the kext file I wanted to remove. I removed the nvdarwin kext file and was able to get back into my install. At this point I decided to reapply the patch I downloaded from verdant's guide and use the nvinject driver instead of the nvdarwin. It failed to work as well. That's right, I tried both Nvinject and nvdarwin and neither one worked for me. Nvdarwin would give me a "no signal" message on my monitor as if it wasn't plugged in, and Nvinject sent a signal, but all I got was a black screen... no display at all. So once again I went back into Windows, found the Nvinject kext and deleted it. This fixed the issue and I was able to boot into my Mac install again... without the video card fully functioning still. Note that I kept ALL THE GFX-ID FIX kext files!!!

After countless attempts with nvdarwin and nvinject, a few other projects as well... I gave up and tried the Aqua-Mac Drivers + GFX strings approach. First thing I did was download the GFX Strings for the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB. I attached this file to this post just in case someone wants to try it (thanks to aquamac for making this file available). Anyways, yes my card is a 512 card, but since there was no download for a 512 8800 GTS... I went with the 640 file. I don't know if this made a difference or not, but it worked.

The aqua-mac guide states you need EFI V8, but I'm not 100% sure as to why because I never had to use it while following the walk through on the aqua-mac website. I believe the patches I downloaded from verdant's guide have EFI V8 included in them as it was installed on my system after I updated to 10.5.7. I checked prior to following the aqua-mac guide just to make sure I had it, but as I stated, I never had to use it.

So after downloading the GFX Strings for the GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB file, I followed the rest of the guide exactly as it's written EXCEPT FOR ONE PART! There's a note that talks about inserting the Total ram size into the in.plist file for cards with 512 or 768 MB of memory. My card is a 512 card, but I did not do this step, and the process still worked. After saving my com.apple.boot.plist file in the correct location, I rebooted my system using -V and -F. There didn't appear to be any different messages as it booted up so I had no idea whether or not the card was going to work. Well sure enough I had a blue screen on my monitor... but wait... it was a slightly different shade of blue this time. I knew immediately it was functioning at the proper resolution. There was my mouse pointer, and then everything else loaded up... all at a beautiful 1920x1280 resolution. That was that... I left everything alone and moved onto my sound card. If I had to do it all over again, I would install only the GFX-ID fixes and then after successfully booting into the Mac install, try the aqua-mac method. Hopefully this lengthy write-up helps others. Anyways, onto the sound.

Onboard Sound (Optical Digital Out Port) and technique:

My motherboard is a EVGA 132-CK-NF78-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

I have this board hooked up to my surround sound receiver via an optical digital cable connection (S/PDIF). I commented on how I was able to make it work in an earlier post I made back in October of 2008 (probably the longest post in this thread, LOL). Anyways, here is that post about my audio (slightly changed):

As far as sound goes, I wasn't sure exactly what to do. After running the updates, I believe my sound card was detected, but the only cable I had hooked up to my card was my optical digital cable that runs to my surround sound receiver. I wasn't hearing anything so I assumed it wasn't working. Verdant posted a link to the Azalia audio install package in an earlier post in this thread, and after installing it I still wasn't hearing anything. Confused, I ran downstairs and grabbed some headphones, plugged them into the green speaker port and bang, I was hearing sound. Well I wanted my digital port to work, so I did some hunting.

I discovered the "AppleHDA Solution" thread and installed version 1.2. The first dump file I found did not work so I hunted some more. I browsed through the "AppleHDA Patcher Results" thread and stumbled upon a dump file that DID work and DID enable my Digital Out port. It wasn't long before I was jammin' music on iTunes through my surround sound receiver. I've attached that dump file to this post just incase someone wants to try it. Please note I used v1.2 of the AppleHDA Patcher and DID NOT test any other audio-out ports on the soundcard, JUST THE DIGITAL (S/PDIF) PORT. That's it for sound. Need more help? PM me.

Hopefully that information helps someone. I know it's a lot of reading, but I'm a freak when it comes to being detailed so I tried to explain things as thoroughly as I could. Best of luck to everyone, and THANKS AGAIN to Verdant and Mysticus... these guys are the reason I have the MacOSX working on my PC.

Hay, can I please get help running iATKOS 10.5.7 on my EVGA 780i SLI? Here are my system specs:

EVGA 780i SLI

Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 (stock 2.4, OC'd to 3.0 Ghz)

6 Gb DDR2 Corsair XMS2 PC 6400 800mhz RAM

2 IDE Lightscribe DVD+-R DL Burners

Western Digital 200 Gb HD (SATA 3.0)

EVGA 250 GTS 1Gb

now my problem is every time I try to install, I get kernel panics about 5 minutes into instalation. Ive tried the TOH kernel, CPUS=1 and -v. nothing works. My BIOS is all standard settings, besides my CPU overclock. all I did is unlinked RAM and the CPU, and brought up the CPU. please help

1. Set your BIOS settings according to the 780i OS X settings template in post #1.....make sure that in your BIOS that you have set

RAID Enable [Enabled]

SATA 0 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 0 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

because with your EVGA nforce 780i SLI FTW MOBO, you MUST have RAID Enable set to [Enabled], so that you can enable or disable the SATA functions. This is because WHEN you set RAID Enable to [Disabled], all SATA functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed, yet you want to set Serial-ATA Controller [All Enabled]

2. Check that one of your IDE DVDRWs is jumper set to Master and connected to the IDE cable end-connector.

3. Boot with cpus=1 -v maxmem=2048 and initially install OS X without making a video, audio and network selection in the Customize menu to get the basic OS X system running......the correct video, audio and network drivers can be installed later....

4. Once you have installed OS X on the HDD, erase AppleNForceATA.kext from System/Library/Extensions and install one of these:

AppleNForceATA.kext 64 4gb ram support

http://ul.to/msp8sr

AppleNForceATA.kext 64 (untested).

http://ul.to/dy7yl1

If the Nforce network driver is not working, try this one:

http://ul.to/ezoaeg

5. Do not use EFI string for your nVidia 250 GTS card.....instead use one of the nVidia enablers.....
