Two SATA 350GB HDD

1 SATA DVD RW

XFX 260GTX 896mb

10.5.5 ideneb

Currently Booted once on the following config.

All bios settings at default.

Changed ram specs to 1066

5-5-5-18 timings

Installed with following

9.5.0 vanilla

jmicron controller

Applesmbios 1066

IOusbfix

and anything else you need.

Key to remember, when running in IDE mode for SATA, Jmicron manages the SATA drives. Unless running in raid then nforce does!

(UPDATE) As of now I do not know how I got it to boot the first time. I have been unable to replicate it so far, but am still trying. I won't give up. =P

Although the vanilla kernel is working.......it is only working after a fashion if you have to boot with cpus=1.......so try Voodoo 9.5.0.......

i fixed the audio by installing voodooHDA

if i use vodoo dont i have to get the seatbelt fix+ i wont be able to use software update?

Glad VoodooHDA worked for you..... :(

Yes, Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel does require the seatbelt.kext fix......but you can update to 10.5.7 using the Mystiquemacus 10.5.7 Updater patches......I have updated Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.7 using it.......see my short user guide here......

News on OS X 10.5.7 and 10.5.8

At this time, it's unclear exactly which system components Mac OS X 10.5.8 will address. However, a cursory review of Apple's support forums shows quite a few threads from users who've been hit with network-related issues after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.5.7 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Meanwhile, a variety of other discussion threads detail several additional issues faced by users after upgrading to 10.5.7, such as random freezes, problems with DVD playback, loss of Bluetooth connectivity, broken Time Machine backups, and invalid digital signature warnings.

EVGA 780i SLI with stock bios settings.

8gb 1066mhz of ram, working perfect

260GTX not working properly, Injector screws up OS install so i dont install it.

Quad Q6600 3.5ghz fully working, all cores.

Network, Audio, Firewire

250gb SATA HDD _OSX_

Installed useing iPC 10.5.6

Needed to boot useing -v cpus=1 maxmem=2048 before installing NforceATA.kext

System is a bit slugish as far as drag and drop and moving windows. "Graphics Driver"

Install via dvd required me to say in the install log to keep the disk drive from going to sleep.

Hope this helps, & can someone tell me why i use the injector for my 260 then i cant boot back into osx even in safemode.

Which injector are you using?

Have you fixed your Ge* and NVD* kexts as shown in post #1 in this thread.....?

I will download the same file and burn it to CD now........you have me wondering now!

Do....oh

I think I have found the problem......I zipped the .iso image as a .zip file and guess what unzip does!......it unzips the .iso image itself. I have now saved the .iso image file in a folder and then zipped the folder, so that unzipping only unzips the folder, leaving the .iso image file intact inside the folder.......does that make sense to you.... Sorry for wasting your CDs...... :(

I am burning the .iso file in the unzipped folder to a CD-RW and if it boots OK, I will upload the zipped folder and post the link here....... :)

UPDATE: Procedure works......so will post the link as soon as I can......

as promised i got an IDE dvdrom and tried to use your nForceBOOT without any success, your nForceBOOT does work but i get the almighty still waiting for rood device when i run the retail cd, any idea of what might be wrong? i have my bios setting just like the post #1 THX very much

Did you partition/format your HDD that you are installing Retail OS X to as GPT/HFS+.....and install the Chameleon 2.0 RC1 bootloader........then install OS X?

You should have an Extra directory in the root partition, i.e. /Extra containing:

/Extra/Extensions containing

AHCIPortInjector.kext

AppleNForceATA.kext

ATAPortInjector.kext

IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext

/Extra/Themes

and com.apple.Boot.plist........

hey all, if not for all of our efforts, i would not be in my situation right now (many thanks)

with that said.....

1. EVGA nForce™ 780i SLI

2. 780i SLI

3. Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600, 4 cores, 2.4GHz stock, 3.2GHz OCd (400x8) 4gb ddr2 800 fully recognized.

4. BIOS set to Verdant's template

5. PATA [iDE] DVDRW, 1

6. 2xSATA 320gb Barracudas RAID 0 (NTFS) 1xSATA 60gb Momentus for osx86 - Mac Filesystem (journaled)

7. Vista Home Premium x64 dual boot (EasyBCD) w/ XxX OSx86 10.5.6 Final-> 10.5.7 (using Apple Software update then switched back to Voodoo 9.5.1 & kexts)

8. 2x eVGA GTX 260 stock clocked (sp192) no sli bridge

9. X-Fi Fatal1ty (not supported)

10. Onboard Audio ALC888 and dual nForce LAN enabled.

XxX 10.5.6 Final updated to 10.5.7 through Apple software update and downgrade to voodoo 9.5.1 kernel & kexts

Which brings me to my question....

I have been trying to install full QE/CI for my 2x GTX 260's. Most people have been either using the EFI string method for os x to properly detect and report both cards (while incorrectly reporting the 2nd card's vram size in my case.....no hardware acceleration). Or using the latest netkas driver pkg with EFI strings to enable full hardware acceleration and dual monitor support with 1 card (not my interest to have a perfectly good GTX 260 sitting on the floor next to my comp). There are also those who used both netkas' enabler and driver pkg to enable harware acceleration and SINGLE monitor support.

I have successfully installed 1 card with full hardware acceleration however 2 cards cause KP.

I have narrowed down the problem being with NVDAResMan.kext (removing this kext removes my kernel panic) I have tried netkas' method to fix the permissions but to no avail.

Any thoughts? I have already visited aquamac's site, however his solution is not what i'm looking for. The nForce 780i will NOT boot past POST screen if there is no Graphics card in slot 1.

Thanks again for the time and patience.

This is a difficult one given that I do not have that graphics card let alone two of them to try get full CI/QE myself........but

1. Have you fixed the IOPCIClassMatch string as shown in GeForce.kext, as well as in NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV50Hal.kext , and also in the latter two kexts, added your device ID to Info.plist under IOPCIPrimaryMatch

<key>IOPCIClassMatch</key>
<string>0x03000000&0xff000000</string>
<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

And in the NVinjector kext (NVdarwin, NVinject, etc....) added your device ID, set the correct NVCAP string and set the IOProbeScore to 0.....?

Or instead of the NVinjectors already tried, you may wish to try NVEnabler which has automatic NVCAP creation is built-in.....

2. Repaired permissions on Extensions via Terminal.....

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo chmod -R go-w /System/Library/Extensions/
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/

3. Reboot with -v -f

The Build:

Mobo: EVGA nforce 780i SLi

Chipset: nforce 780i SLI SPP (Hope thats correct, someone correct me if its not)

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad cpu Q6600 4cores, 2.40ghz stock

Bios: Copied the Template as best as I could by Verdant

TDK DVDRW IDE Slave, TTSTcorp WriteMaster DVDRW IDE Master

4x Western Digital Caviar 350GB SATA in Nvidia RAID5

(Keep having hd's fail in raid5 so thinking about removing it)

Formatting is a Single OS per HDD formatted in Mac journaled

I have Vista Home 32Bit now and would like to be able to dual boot from it to Leo. I was thinking just plug in the hd with Leo on it when i want to use leo.

Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 2x8800GT 512 PciE in SLi mode

Audio: HDA its the onboard audio ( hope this is correct also)

Ram: Corssair Dominator DDR2 2x2gigs

Newwork Adapters: Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet and Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet#2 (whatever that means)

Install status:

I have xxx OSX 86 not sure what version. Also have a dvd with iDenab_V1.4 on it. I have yet another dvd with Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_Amd. I am downloading iATKOS v1 0ir3 from the bay of pirates.

Upon install of the xxx dvd I was able to install make my selections and reboot. On the reboot It would never finish loading, I would just remain at the gray screen with the spinning circle. These are my steps for install, partition 1hd into 2 partitions. Erased my previsous failed install attempts. on Pt1 Driver selections are:

Optional bootloader>ChamelonSMBIOS

Optional Kernel>9.5.0 Voodoo XNU>Voodoo 9.5.0 1.0 (intel/AMD)

Chipset Support>AppleNForceATA (Not sure if I should Select this or a different one)

Graphic Drivers>Nvidia Support>NVinject>NVinject2.1>NVinject_0.2.1_512MB

Audio Driver>None selected (not sure which one I need)

Network Driver>nForceLAN ethernet

INstalling... selected Pt1. -x for safe mode, loading screen with spinning circle.. the circle stopped spinning and appears to be frozen on the loading screen. Now trying -v -f, lets see what happens "kextd[10]: IOKitWaitQuiet() Timed out waiting to write kernel symbols".. still stuck on what to do.. I was reading though this long thread topic and found that being SLI, someone stated to remove one of the cards from the board. :D man what a hassle that will become.

Any Advise would be great to get this thing working

1) With OS X you cannot use MOBO software RAID only Apple software RAID........although hardware RAID using a RAID PCI-E card may work.....check here but you would need to check forums to make certain yourself if a Silicon Image 3124 or 3132 chipset driver is available, if the Sil downloadable driver does not work.......

2) OS X needs to be installed on a primary partition to be bootable AFIAK......unless you have a specific reason to partition your OS X HDD as GPT, I recommended you partition/format it as MBR/HFS+.......i.e. can use a primary FAT32 or NTFS volume and just format it as HFS+.....

3) Remove one of the 8800GT graphics cards temporarily until you get OS X installed and running OK

4) Check your BIOS settings, in particular you must have set

RAID Enable [Enabled]

SATA 0 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 0 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 1 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Primary RAID [Disabled]

SATA 2 Secondary RAID [Disabled]

so that you can enable or disable the SATA functions. This because WHEN you set RAID Enable to [Disabled], all SATA functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed.

5) Do not install video, network and audio selections initially.....focus on getting the basic OS X system running......

6) Install from Kalyway as follows: (you can update to 10.5.6 or 10.5.7 using updater patches and guides here.....)

1. Boot from the Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD Intel_Amd Install DVD by pressing F8 at boot-up to bring up the PC BIOS "Boot Menu", then selecting the DVDRW Drive and pressing Enter.

2. On DVD Darwin boot loader appearance, press F8 quickly and at the "boot:" prompt, type "cpus=1 maxmem=2048 –v" (without quotes)

3. Once the Kalyway OS X Installer has loaded, use Disk Utility to partition the HDD as Master Boot Record (MBR) into the number and size of volumes required, and format the intended OS X install volume as Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) giving it a unique name without spaces.

4. If you have partitioned your HDD into more than one volume as suggested, select the first volume to install to, otherwise just select the internal or external HDD volume.

5. Press Continue and then Customize. Once in the "Customize" menu, select as follows:

Additional Fonts (Choose to suit your requirements)

Language Translations (Choose to suit your requirements)

Kernels -

kernel_9.2_sleep Y (Default choice)

kernel_9.2_speedstep N

kernel_922_kabyl N

kernel_922_modin N

kernel_92_nforce N

kernel_vanilla_92 N

Graphics _Drivers - None

Audio_Drivers - None

Networks_ Drivers - None

Mobo_Chipsets - Default choices

Thirds_Applications – Choose to suit your requirements

(I suggest kextHelperB7, pacifist, perian, ppfomatic, stuffitExpander, textmate, vlc)

SSE2_Jas1048_ACPI_APIC N (Default choice)

Patches -

Hardcoded_SMBIOS Default choice i.e. Lastnetkassmbios

boot_with-cpus=1_flag N

PCGenUSB_Fix N

Francais_pc_keyboard_layout N

TimeMachineFix Y

PowerManagement_bundle N

Intel Memory Controller N

AMD_1052_Patches Default N (Default choice)

6. Double check your "Customize" choices, then click "Install". When install begins you may choose to (or not) skip the DVD verify process.

7. When all processes are killed and DVD drive activity stops and the re-boot "beep" sounds, remove the DVD and boot from the Internal HDD......

to see if with this setup you can run OS X with all 4 cores running......reboot with -v maxmem=2048.....

Then PCIClassMatch fix the Ge* and NVD* kexts.....see post #1 in this topic.....and then install Voodoo 9.5.0 using the Voodoo .dmg installer and install slashack's AppleNForceATA v0.1 kext using Kext Helper b7......and then re-boot with -v -f

7) If this Customize choice list gives you 4 running cores.....then install the appropriate audio driver, which is Realtek ALC888S chipset/codec AFAIK.....so one of the many ALC888 drivers should work....or try the driver here from THe KiNG.....or try VoodooHDA v0.2.2.....see if you still have stable running with 4 cores and no kernel panics......

8) Then, if this is the case.....then enable onboard LAN in BIOS and install nForceLAN.kext 0.62.13n.....see post #1 in this topic....... renaming nvenet.kext and removing forcedeth.kext and nForceEthernetController.kext if found.....see if you still have stable running with 4 cores and no kernel panics......

9) Then, if this is the case.....then try aqua-mac's approach for dual 8800GT cards .....see if you still have stable running with 4 cores and no kernel panics......or this approach here may work too......

Thanks verdant I'll give that a shot. I shouldn't have mentioned the raid because I'm running osx on a different HD and now I lost my raid setup so I changed it to a raid zero but even that doesn't matter as like you stated to I disabled the raid and removed the Sata cables from the drives so I would not mess anything up. So now that I have to install windows again shuld I do mac first or windows first? And I'll have more questions because I'm new and have no clue what kernels are or any of that other fancy mac install talk is. Lol

Do Windows first since that is what you know best......also, since you are running OS X on its own SATA HDD, you just have to disable RAID for that HDD....you can still have RAID enabled in BIOS for the Vista setup......just enable RAID in BIOS for each of the RAID HDDs.....

Try EasyBCD 1.72 or EasyBCD 2.0 Beta in Vista and Chameleon 2.0 RC1 in OS X, for dual booting Vista and OS X on separate HDDs....should even work for a Vista RAID setup e.g. 2 x HDD in Raid 0 for Vista and 2 x HDD in Raid 1 for Vista, plus 1 x HDD for OS X.....

In EasyBCD, your BCD entry for OS X will be pointing not at the OS X HDD but at the OS X boot file location, i.e. Chameleon bootloader (which then points to the OS X system(s))......so, try:

1. Partition the OS X HDD as MBR and format (HFS+) the required OS X volumes on the HDD

2. Boot into Vista....go to EasyBCD.....then to Bootloader Management....and choose to "Reinstall Vista Bootloader"

3. Install the Chameleon bootloader/OS X setup

4. In EasyBCD add a new OS X entry

Also, if you do not want the Vista RAIDed HDD icons trying to mount on the OS X desktop with error messages (other than Apple Software RAID, AFIK only hardware RAID is possible with OSx86, i.e. BIOS software RAID is not) saying the the RAIDed HDDs cannot be mounted, then right-click on the OS X HDD volume icon(s) and choose “Make Alias” for the volume(s)……then go to Finder > Preferences, and under “Show these items on the Dessktop”, uncheck “Hard disks”……the alias icons will remain on the Desktop (i.e. as shortcut(s) to the OS X HDD volume(s)), which you can rename to remove “alias” from the icon(s) name(s)……

Ok so I'll install vista first and that's exactly what raid I'm going to use. I'm using a raid 0 with the four drives then on a different HD will be osx. I'll worry About dual boot once I get a stable version of osx going

Verdant: I currently have vista 64 bit installed. I also had to redownload that kalyway dvd that I had before when I lost my previous RAID. Anyways I now have a Raid 0 and I think what am going to do instead of load osx on a completely different HD not on the raid, I'm going to partition this raid and install osx on it. Should that be easier for me or do you think I should just remain with trying to install Osx on the HD off the raid? I'm going to take a stab at this tonight. Oh and if i have osx on a completely different hd off the raid then there is no need for me to dual boot as the other drives are not even plugged in. What do you think?

It is your choice but until you are more familiar with OS X and installing it on x86 I would recommend either keeping it on its own HDD......or put it on its own Apple RAID 2 x HDD setup......

Verdant, aside from pulling out the graphics card i am still unable to get osx loaded successfully. The last thing i truely want to do is pull out the video card. I tried to just disconnect the power from it but my computer made this annoying sound as soon as i started it up so i turned it right back off. Figured i would reattach the power so i dont mess anything up or damage components. Do you have any other tips i can use to get osx working on my pc?

If you want to install OS X successfully, then pulling out one graphics card is what you have to do (if booting the OS X DVD with -v -x maxmem=2048 cpus=1 makes no difference)....after which, try aqua-mac's procedure for setting up dual cards......

@Verdant. I tried updating from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 today using the guide you created on mystiquemac.com

Everything seemed to install ok, but once it was time to load the desktop... the screen went black and the monitor read "no signal" as if I manually unplugged the monitor from the computer. I tried the other port on my 8800GTS and still no luck. Any thoughts on what to try? Thanks!

I tried with safemode without any luck. I went into windows and with MacDrive I deleted all the video card kexts that were Nvdarwin??? related. I was able to get back into it, but ran into more issues trying to fix the problem on my own and now I have to start back over. Definitely seems to be video driver related. After I get back to 10.5.6, and upgrade again, should I try a different video driver, perhaps the Nvinject one to see if that works? Thanks for all the help in this thread... it was this thread last year that finally enabled me to have a working OSX. I appreciate it!

Suggest that you update to 10.5.7 without choosing a video driver, only install the fixed nVidia graphics kexts......then run the NVdarwin installer......if you still have problems, then try CoreVidia v1.1 and netkas Universal injector with correct VRAM amount, or aqua-mac's drivers + GFX strings approach

I've been searching around for a few days and still cannot figure out why I keep getting these panics.

My setup:

EVGA 750i SLI

Intel Core 2 Duo E8500

GeForce 9800GTX+

6 Gigs of DDR2 ram

OS is install on a 320gb SATA hard drive

Also, has anyone figured out a way to enable Digital out (SPDIF) and the normal audio out on 750i integrated sound card? I'm using Voodoo HDA but it wont work.

Thanks in advance :(

With 6GB RAM you should be using slashack's AppleNForceATA kext......either v0.1 or UNTESTED version......see post #1 in this thread.......or set maxmem=3072 in com.apple.Boot.plist......
