@ sd_dracula Check to ensure that with > 2GB RAM on your MOBO you are

1. Using maxmem=3072 in com.apple.Boot.plist with either of MedDevil's AppleNForceATA kexts, i.e. Original kext, or Test kext for SATA DVDRWs......OR

2. Using slashack's AppleNForceATA.kext v0.1 with no maxmem flag set under Kernel Flags in com.apple.Boot.plist.....

3. Check that IOATABlockStorage.kext in IOATAFamily.kext has the same version number as IOATAFamily.kext........

thanks. that seems to have done the job :(

and is there any way to have it boot straight into the partition with the os without asking me to pick one at the darwin prompt?

You can try putting rd=diskXsY with the necessary values for X and Y under Kernel Flags inBoot.plist file.....

great! works like a charm and no crashes either :D

is it normal for mac os to affect the system time in vista though? for example the time is always correct in leopard but when i boot into vista its one hour behind each time i swap OSes.

you got a fix for everything. awesome.

came across a new problem when i tried to normally boot into leopard tho.

i never got this error before and it wont boot anymore.

image536.jpg

and this when i tried a -x

image537.jpg

boot.plist has the resolution string, maxmem=3072 and rd=disk1s1 in it.

any idea what that error is?

This error message indicates that the boot process is not finding your root device and so is trying to net-boot........a HDD read/write error during booting.......suggest you boot from your OS X install DVD and go to Terminal and Repair permissions on your OS X HDD system......

figured it out. it seems whenever it enumerated the hdds it doesnt always assign them the same order. so i had rd=disk1s1 in the boot file but the leopard hdd changed to disk2s1 in the meantime.

guess i need to leave that out.

Yes because it depends on the order in which the drives are "seen"......a good example of this is seen when using USB devices......had you booted with a USB device connected.....?

BUT you could try "boot-uuid=your OS X boot volume UUID here" instead........ :thumbsdown_anim:

no. no new usb devices were plugged in. but every time it boots i can see a message trouble trying to enumerate usb device and then a line later it says success. it can only be the BT dongle or the printer since they're the only 2 usb devices connected.

If the system stutters trying to enumerate either of the USB devices......it may then be forced to re-enumerate all devices......hence the change in disk identifier......

Is your DVDRW a PATA or a SATA drive......?

What is your MOBO RAM......?

Set you BIOS settings according to the 630i OS X settings in my thread here......

Are you wanting to install OS X on the SATA HDD or on the IDE HDD.....? and do you want to dual boot with Windows or Linux.....?

I am completely new to this OSx86 scene. I have read several pages of this thread and still I cannot fully comprehend the information. I have reached a point where I don't know what else to do. I tested iPC 10.5.6 on my setup running only 2gbs of ram and i also followed the bios guide to the point for the 750i FTW. I have ran it in the past and had it working for just a bit till kernel panic because of nForce lan drivers. I also at one point in that installation had dual monitors working but now cannot get them to work again. i decided to give it a go again today. fresh install on one of my 500gb drives. i followed a guide you posted for an iPC distro and i had it working until i installed the audio and video drivers. after installation it booted up fine. i tried to plug in my second monitor and it went to {censored}. i get this nice blue screen now with the loading circle. i ran -v -f and found that an error kept repeating itself. "disk0s1: I/O error". im not sure if that has any significance to the audio or video drivers but i wasnt getting them before i installed the drivers. i guess my ultimate goal is have my dual monitors running again and have the video drivers fully functional. im stuck Verdant and i feel that you're the only person who can really help me. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

What happens when you boot with -v -x........?

Please let me know and post what you currently see under System Profiler > Graphics/Displays.....

Also are you using an NVinjector kext such as NVinject, NVkush, NVdarwin, CoreVidia....., or EFI graphics card strings......?

Confirm that you want to run two moinitors off your single EVGA 8800 GTX 768MB graphics card......?

Did you IOPCIClassMatch the Ge* and NVD* kexts as shown in post #1 here.....?

1. this is what i got from running -v -x...post-434609-1243707455_thumb.jpg

2. this is what was in System Profiler > Displays...post-434609-1243707555_thumb.jpg

3. I used NVinject 768MB. That worked for me before so i will try it again.

4. I do wish to run two monitors off of the single EVGA 8800 GTX 768MB.

5. I did attempt to to do the IOPCIClassMatch but i kept getting the permissions pop up. i thought i reset the permissions to edit all files but some how i cant figure that out yet. :angry: i had found all the places in each file to put the lines of code but i couldnt save it.

thanks verdant

Greetings, first let me say that my background and knowledge of windows PCs is extensive, but when it comes to OSX = total noob. I have spent the better part of the weekend "aquiring" what I hope to be the correct iso(s) for this task and reading (at length) anything I can find. My eyes are going cross eyed at this point but let me say this thread is by far the most complete and useful of anything I have come across so far... and you appear to have the patience of a saint. :)

The config:

* evga 780i SLI

* Intel C2Q Q9450@2.66

* 4gb (2x2048) DDR2

* 2x evga 9800GTX+ 512 Vid

* 60g IDE hd (master), IDE DVDRW (Slave).

Drive setup is leftovers i dug up for this project. I know there is little hope of SLI and one of the 9800GTXs will have to be pulled along with half my mem to start?

I have seen and understand the bios settings in this thread and will obviously start there, but my questions for you are as follows: Since it appears that support for this hardware has dramatically changed from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 and some distros are doing a better job than others as solving the tough problems like Ethernet on this board...

* which distro would you start with to minimize potential issues getting my system up and stable?

* what defaults would you begin with for said Distro?

* Are there any of the original BIOS settings that have changed due to the improved distro support?

* is 1680x1050 res still a real trick to get fully working? USB? Ethernet? Sound? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!!! ... and let me apologize in advance if any of my questions are too noobish. :wacko:

Glad to help.......nice to know you have taken the time to read post #1...... :)

First of all, set your PATA HDD jumper to Slave and PATA DVDRW jumper to Master, and connect to the middle and end connectors of your 80-wire IDE cable.

In case you get SATA HDD(s) at some point, regarding the BIOS settings in post #1, for EVGA BIOS, RAID Enable should be set to [Enabled], to allow you to enable or disable the BIOS SATA parameters. When RAID is set to [Disabled], all SATA

functions are changed to Disabled and cannot be changed.

To install OS X you should temporarily remove one of the 9800GTX graphics cards but you do not have to remove 2GB of RAM because you can boot the install DVD with

- v cpus=1 maxmem=2048

I recommend you try iPC 10.5.6.....initially install without selecting a video, network and audio driver in the Customize menu......these can be installed after you have the basic OS X system running.....for the other necessary selections see my blog for my iPC 10.5.6 installation guide....USB should be taken care of.....

For networking use eno's nForceLAN.......see post #1. For audio, once OS X is running, install and run OSx86Tools to list your Vendor ID/PCI IDs......this should tell you what your audio chipset and hence required codec is.....to install kexts use Kext Helper b7.....

For your video, see here........

WOW, Read through everything and ready to give it a shot. I'll try with iPC OSx86 10.5.6 Universal PPF5 (Final).iso

One thing came to mind right away... Have you ever seen or tried installing on a striped SATA raid (running off MB)? I have a pair of Raptors that I use for Win7(64) and a couple other 500GB SATA drives for storage... but for testing and "learning" OSX, I'm sticking with the basic drive setup I mentioned earlier.

Ideally, I would like to get to a point where "IF" I can maintain SLI and Memory in OSX (actually have 8gb avail), I would run a dual or triple boot between Win7, Ubuntu, and OSX. Potential issue being, I don't want to be without the performance of my stripe in Win7 (64). I have seen mention of a couple of configs for the dual boot setup, but not sure if my stripe (which is also my boot device btw) will be a factor. Comments... suggestions.... asside from "run away screaming like a little girl". :)

Thanks man!
