ok so what i did was use the ipc final dvd. I installed easy bsd in vista, then during the installation of osx86, I parted the disk in thirds, 1st part bout 10g 2nd part bout 45g and 3rd part=rest of disk. I formated With MBR option, then i went to terminal and made that disk active using this guide

and chose the 9.5 voodoo kernel as suggested by sd_dracula and viola it booted!.

I installed chameleon and osxtools and whatever else i could install from my main HDD...but...i now do not have an ethernet device detected and i do not have any audio...

For Ethernet run the eno nForceLAN.kext installer.....see details and link in post #1 of this thread.......for audio you need the ALC888S audio codec AFAIK.......try kexts for ALC888S from here....or try VooddooHDA 0.2.2 Beta.....for About this Mac and Q6600 see my blog......entry for Jun 27 2008....... :D

ok got 10.5.7 by darwinux installed but is there any way to avoid specifying the kernel to boot into (voodoo or anv) without typing it everytime? default kernel keeps restarting the machine.

dont suppose vesa can output to 2 monitors too can it?

YAY!! :) got audio and LAN verdant...dude you rock!!

Does or has anyone get a really quick screen flash and then the system halt? mouse moves but no clicking or anything else. it seems it just freezes.

When does this happen? You can put debug=0x100 under Kernel Flags in com.apple.Boot.plist.....it will hopefully trap any kernel panic during use.....this way we may see what causes the panic....

Also, if you are using USB keyboard and mouse......did you install Patched USB Drivers....?

Did you also choose Shutdown/Restart Fix and UUID Fix?.........it is unusual to need these....did you try an install without using them as per my iPC i0.5.6 install guide in my blog....?

Also if you have QT7.6 installed, then rename AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext via Terminal....

sudo mv AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad
exit

You can add

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>"the name of the kernel you want to boot with"</string>

to com.apple.Boot.plist as follows:

sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist

hence.....

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">

<plist version="1.0">

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>"the name of the kernel you want to boot with"</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

Not that I am aware of........nor how you might specify which Graphics Mode is for which monitor.....

My current problem with my build is that I'm getting a panic before I can even get the DVD to boot into the installer. My comps specs are:

EVGA LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Mobo

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Processor

EVGA GeForce 9800 GT Gfx Card

Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA HDD (setup as having a Windows XP, a Windows 7, and a blank primary NTFS partition. Note that the Windows 7 partition was recently installed, so when I used 'rd=disk0s2', it was correct when I used it. I'll now have to change that to 'rd=disk0s3'.)

LITE-ON SATA DVD Drive

2x 2GB (4GB) DDR2 RAM

I have IDE HDDs and DVD Drives available to work with if they're needed as well.

The DVD I'm using to attempt to install OS X is iATKOS 5i. I checked the MD5 sum and it was spot on. I also burned 2 copies of the disk (just in case) and both seem to be working.

Also, I fit my BIOS settings to the ones listed at the front of this thread. I can take pics of the BIOS if needed, but I can't promise quality.

My current problem is (quoted from my thread)

I tried booting with "-v rd=disk0s2" and "-v cpus=1 rd=disk0s2" and both have the same results. They get me past the "Still waiting for root device" error, but I now get a kernel panic. Here's what shows up after it tells me it got the boot device:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x002D88DE):"nfs_boot_init failed with 6\n"@/Volumes/disk1s2/leo_xnu/xnu-1228/bsd/nfs/nfs_vfsops.c:851
  Debugger called: <panic>
  ...Backtrace stuff here...
BSD process name corresponding to current thread: kernel_task
  Mac OS version:
  Not yet set
  Kernel version:
  Darwin Kernel Version 9.1.0:Sat Nov 17 02:56:34 SCT 2007; made by TOH:xnu-1228.0.2~1/BUILD/obj/RELEASE+I386

And it sticks there indefinitely

I've also tried booting with various combinations of "-v", "rd=disk0s2", "cpus=0", and "nforce".

I'm comfortable with swapping out hardware. I've built a few computers now, so I'm fine doing that. I'd also be fine finding other versions of iATKOS or Kalyway or iDeneb or any other version of the OSx86 project. Any other suggestions are very much welcome. I have experience in programming as well, so if I have to change out files or code inside files for anything, I'm comfortable doing that also.

If I've forgotten anything or you need to know anything, feel free to ask. All help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Ligor

i don't notice any flash, but under heavy read/write activity and after long idles i think, things seem odd, so i click on the hd or task bar, initially the icons bounce, but then eventually nothing responds and i need to hard boot. no panic, just non-responsive

i just updated to 10.5.7/9.6 anv tonight, haven't had test time yet, waiting to see if it persists...

Check your BIOS settings so that you have

RAID Enable set to [Enabled] but with SATA RAID set to [Disabled]

Serial-ATA Controller set to [All Enabled]......

Onboard LAN enabled and connected to your LAN/modem....

and see if you can boot the Install DVD with -v rd=disk0s2 cpus=1 maxmem=2048.....

Also try -v -x rd=disk0s2 cpus=1 maxmem=2048 if above does not work.....

If you get to the OS X installer, suggest you try an install with

iATKOS v5i Main system

Bootloader Chameleon v1.0.11 (later update to Chameleon 2.0RC1)

X86Patchers

– Decrypters – AppleDecrypt

– SMBIOS drivers – SMBIOS' for X86 – AppleSMBIOS -28

– Kernel – 9.5.0 Kernel voodoo

– ACPI – x86 ACPI

– Disabler – Y

– PS/2 – N Only needed if you are not using USB keyboard and USB mouse as recommended

– OHR – N

– Remove Thermal kexts – Y

Drivers

– VGA – N You can sort out EFI strings for your 9800 GT Gfx Card later

– System

o SATA/IDE

• nForce SATA

o Speedstep – N

o Laptop Battery – N

o ext2fs – Y

o NTFS-3G – Y

– Network – N You can install eno's nForceLAN.kext later

– Audio – N You can install appropriate driver later

Maybe I do some thing wrong(see attachment)

And could I update to 10.5.7? or it will create the problem?

Other people have reported that error with VoodooHDA 0.2.2 Beta Preference Pane (even after updating to 10.5.7)......have you tried with the Voodoo Preference Pane removed......also look for a VoodooHDA .plist file in Library/Preferences......try dragging it to your Desktop....and then reboot

Also try repairing permissions on the VoodooHDA.kext

sudo chown -R root:wheel System/Library/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext
  sudo chmod -R go-w System/Library/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext
  sudo touch System/Library/Extensions/
  sudo rm System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Reboot with -v -f

Almost forgot......make sure that you have removed AppleAzaliaAudio.kext from System/Library/Extensions......before repairing permissions on VoodooHDA.kext.....

I will check back tomorrow......got to go now..... :)

I checked the BIOS settings that you suggested and everything was already set to those settings.

I tried booting with "-v rd=disk0s2 cpus=1 maxmem=2048", "-v -x rd=disk0s2 cpus=1 maxmem=2048", "-v rd=disk0s3 cpus=1 maxmem=2048", and "-v -x rd=disk0s3 cpus=1 maxmem=2048". I tried both rd=disk0s2 and rd=disk0s3 since I wasn't sure if you typo'd or misread something (but I was pretty sure it should have been 0s3). I also tried both of those with and without "-x". I was unable to boot with any of these settings.

When I booted without "-x" everything was the same as before. When I booted With "-x", it was close to the same, but had some things with "USBF: " in front and looked like:

If you can boot with the OS X Install DVD and go to Disk Utilities > Terminal and type

diskutil list

just to check your device disk IDs.....

I could be wrong but I suspect that your SATA DVDRW maybe the problem.....it appears as if the system is trying to netboot when it can no longer find the root device......having said that some have resolved the same issue by updating their OEM BIOS....

So I suggest that you proceed as follows, presuming of course that you burned your iATKOS DVD copies using good media and at the slowest possible speed of ≤ x4......

1. Swap out your SATA DVDRW and put in a PATA DVDRW and boot with

-v cpus=1 maxmem=2048

If that makes no difference and you get the same issue.....

2. Try an alternative distro download such as iPC 10.5.6 with both DVDRW types and boot with

-v cpus=1 maxmem=2048

If that makes no difference and you get the same issue.....

3. Update your OEM BIOS version

Ok just to give you guys an update I had to reinstall everything cuz I tried updating to 10.5.7 and it froze :censored2: but no worries I got everything working correctly, I had issues with my resolution and graphics card wasnt being recognized even after using osxtools to add gfx strings to .com.apple.boot.plist but i downloaded nvkush installer and now i got my card being recognized. so all is well, next step is to install a retail copy... thanks to everyone whom helped out. :D

me again :)

quick question about USB devices. when i installed the OS i of course took everything out of the USB ports but the mouse and keyboard (the keyboard has a 2 port usb hub in which the mouse is plugged in).

after plugging everything back in it seems like the OS doesnt detect anything i plug in such as USB drives or my ipod touch which all worked before.

any idea what might have caused it?

here is the setup:

USB KB with mouse and BT device plugged in it (both are recognized and work ok in OSX)

USB Card Reader

Epson Printer and Ipod cradle

are all plugged in at the back.

if i plug the ipod in the front it wont even charge.

the patched USB drivers dont work anymore?

Check that all your BIOS USB settings are enabled

Ensure that your kernel and system.kext versions match

Check in System Profiler that your USB 2.0 High Speed Bus is present

If none of the above are the issue, then try slice's USB kexts for 10.5.6......see post #1 in this thread.......

figured out the problem by inserting each device at a time then restarting.

it works with the printer and bluetooth, and also the card reader works if i plug it in after the os boots.

if i reboot with all of them plugged in no new usb device is found except the KB, mouse and BT which are all powered from the keyboard hub.

so its the card reader that screws things up.

This a well known cause of USB problems I am afraid......
