Audio AD1988B chipset......see post #1 towards the end.....

Assume you using eno's nForceLAN.kext for networking.....see post #1......

Dual nVidia GeForce 9800 GTX / 9800 GTX 512MB graphics cards.....see here....and to cure mouse lag with QT7.6, rename AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext as AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad....

Dual booting Vista and OS X off single HDD.......try Chameleon 2.0RC1 in OS X, or EasyBCD 1.7.2 in Vista.....

Okay, got Audio and Networking working. Can't get graphics working and haven't tried Dual Booting yet. Is there anything else you can suggest for Dual GeForce 9800 GTX+ graphics cards?

Also, I attempted to edit 'AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext' to 'AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad'

but it said I didn't have permission to edit it?

Sorry I assumed you were familiar with using Terminal commands since you had got so far already.....do the following in Terminal:

sudo mv AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad
exit

Explain in more detail what problems you are having with aqua-mac's procedure......report what happens when you boot with -v......

Perhaps you should remove one card and get a single card running with full CI/QE first to become more familiar with setting up a GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB graphics card.....

I update my mac from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 using Verdant's sweet guide <3

I followed all instruction and at the end when i reboot my system, it causes big problems.

with dual core enable it stuck on a blue screen and never get pass it. Once it did but the mouse freeze problem occur after logged in few seconds and causes the whole system stop running. [Mouse freeze still happening!]

With one core enable it work but the system runs really really REALLY slow. The CPU usage is always at %100 percent.

with safe boot everything runs fine and smooth with dual core. But no drivers are load! :[

I also notice there's a yellow line error in verbose mode when i boot into mac but it pass too fast and i can't see what it is. It is around the beginning of the booting process

Here's what I installed

eno net driver

ACPI Fix

slashhack +4GB nforce driver

DMG Mount fix

Mac Pro SMBIOS

Voodoo kernel

Darwin 1.2.5 and the graphic fix

did permission fix and DSMOS

--------------------------------------------------

no power management installed

no usb fixes

no ps2 fixes

Verdant can you help me again? Thank you!!!

Hi there,

Blue screen means a video driver kext issue.....

So first check in /S/L/E to see what NV* kexts you have loaded.......you should only see NVdarwin.kext present (i.e. not NVinject.kext or NVkush.kext as well).......

Then add these 2 lines of code (if found to be missing)

<key>IOPCIClassMatch</key>
  <string>0x03000000&0xff000000</string>

before this code:

<key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key>

in the NVD*.kexts and

before this code

<key>IOPCIMatch</key>

in the GeForce.kext (see list below)

=============

GeForce.kext

NVDAResman.kext

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV30Hal.kext

NVDANV20Hal.kext

NVDANV10Hal.kext

=============

in the Info.plist file of each of the above kexts.

To get to Info.plist file in each kext:

1. Navigate to /System/Library/Extensions

2. Find each kext one at a time, then right-click on kext icon, choosing "Show Package Contents", then open Contents folder to find Info.plist.

3. Open Info.plist file via Terminal using sudo nano etc., or right-click, choosing "Open With", and selecting your preferred Text Editor app; e.g.Text Edit, TextMate, TextWrangler, Property List Editor, or PlistEdit Pro etc.

4. Make changes to Info.plist and save modified file.

All of the NVDANVxxHal.kexts in the list above are recommended to be fixed for class type identification, in case more than one NVDANVxxHal.kext is loaded and registered.....

Reboot with -v -f.......

If you cannot swap resolutions on the fly, swap the monitor cable connector to the other video port on your graphics card.....

In case you had removed

GeForce.kext

NVDAResman.kext

NVDANV50Hal.kext

NVDANV40Hal.kext

NVDANV30Hal.kext

NVDANV20Hal.kext

NVDANV10Hal.kext

reinstall them using Kext Helper b7......

it stuck on blue screen with dual core and it works with one core but VERY VERY slow.

I look through my system.log and found that the Apple EHCI and PCIGENEHCI is causing conflict. Also unable to get ownership from the BIOS and no USB Storage mount support [tested] so i deleted the PCIGENEHCI.kext and installed the USB fix from the 10.5.6 post patch. The yellow error line is gone.

But still, with 1 core the computer goes very very slow and CPU usage is always at 100%.

With dual core I either stuck with a blank black screen or a blue screen. I will also see your suggestion above see if everything kext is fine.

Thanks Verdant <3

Not certain you need ACPI Fix either.....try without if other suggestions make no difference....also check that Voodoo 9.5.0, System.kext and Seatbelt.kext are matched 9.5.0 versions.....

Also:

cd /System/Library/Extensions
ls
sudo mv AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext AppleUpstreamUserClient.kext.bad
ls
exit

Question: Did you need to use cpus=1 with 10.5.5, or only after updating to 10.5.6....?

If answer is cpus=1 not needed with 10.5.5.....then perhaps ACPI Fix is causing a problem......

If answer is cpus=1 was needed with 10.5.5.....then DSDT.aml file for your system may be needed.....

I will check back here tomorrow........ :)

Yes cpus=1 is needed with the 10.5.5 because the mouse freezes when dual core enabled. :[

I din't have the DSDT.aml in the extensions folder.

The system.kext and the kernel is 9.5.0 but i do'nt know about seatbelt thingy i check is 107.10.

I also check all the NV kext and deleted the "amp;" now is 0x03000000&0xff000000

thanks verdant!

K.K :]

okiee MR I did everthing that you said and now is runs fine with dual core BUT, My resolution stuck with 1024X768 >____________<

The 8800GTS 320MB recognized in the system profiler o.o

Thanks verdant for the great help!~~~!!! >3<

Seatbelt.kext Info.plist should have

<key>CFBundleVersion</key>
 <string>107.10</string>
 <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
 <string>107.10</string>
 <key>OSBundleCompatibleVersion</key>
 <string>47</string>

First, boot with cpus=1 and run the Voodoo kernel .dmg installer.......if you still have to use cpus=1 then see my post #1 about fassl's DSDT patcher to generate a DSDT.aml file for your system and use Chameleon 2.0RC1 with DSDT.aml file......

However, if you had a OS X test volume (highly recommended).....I would say install Kalyway 10.5.2 onto it without any NV injector.kext (e.g. NVinject, NVkush, NVdarwin) or EFI graphics string......then see if OS X runs OK with 2 cores using 9.2.0 ToH kernel or 9.4.0 StageXNU kernel.....

If so, then there was a problem with your 10.5.5 install......so, double-check your CPU BIOS settings against post #1 settings and update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.6 with NVdrawin + GFX fix, Voodoo 9.5.0 kernel etc.....choosing only MacPro SMBIOS and DMG Mount in Essential System Fixes/Patches.....

@ KellyKelly

When you say your resolution is stuck at 1024X768 do you mean that you cannot change resolutions vi aSystem Preferences or what?

Under System Profiler Graphics/Displays, you should see

Core Image Hardware Accelerated

Quartz Extreme Supported

If you do, try switching your monitor connector cable to the other video port on your GFX card......

Verdant I'm still stuck with CPUS=1 or the mouse will freeze >.<

I reinstalled the graphic because I was stuck with 1024X768 resolution

because

Core Image :Software

Quartz Extreme :not support

All i did was change the line from 0x03000000&0xff000000 to 0x03000000&0xff000000

did I do something wrong with it? I make sure is right but the resolution stuck on 1024X768 after this.

K.K

UPDATE: when i tried to reinstall the kernel it failed. It say run postupgrade script for mach_kernel. What is this?

Leave 0x03000000&0xff000000 as it is.....let us step back........

Are you using a USB keyboard and USB mouse....?

Are you using slashack's AppleNforceATA.kext since you have 8GB RAM on your MOBO?

Thanks for helping me verdant.

I use USB keyboard and mouse

I use the slashhack nforceATA >3GB kext

The funny thing is without the eno driver the mouse issue don't seem to happen. Or without the graphic driver.

AppleDecrypt.kext enables the use of Apple encrypted kexts, e.g. enables GUI....(takes over role of dsmos.kext)

OpenHaltRestart.kext enables reboot and shutdown on PCs without binary patching or recompiling the kernel.

I can use onboard LAN OK but have a RTL8169 NIC that I normally use.......

Use Kext Helper b7 to install these replacement kexts.......from my own 10.5.2 to 10.5.6 updated system.....

ohh...anyway thank you! Everything seems to run very smooth. I played world of Goo for about an an hour any no crash at all. so far I tested for 4 hours. Maybe is really my system kext problem. But since the mouse thingy freeze and locked up randomly I have no idea it is fully fixed or not. Will keep testing and let you know :]

Glad to help.......problem may have been due to the ACPI Fix being chosen and/or the IONetworkingFamily.kext version.....I hope it stays that way for you........since I successfully updated from Kalyway 10.5.2 to 10.5.6 using the 10.5.6 ComboUpdate following my written guide myself..... :D

You can now quickly back up your schoolwork and other stuff now......
