Just got off the phone with Apple. They apparently have an ongoing internal investigation about the MacBook Pro power cables, and they were very interested in getting mine back so they could check it out. I mentioned the burn mark and they didn't seem the slightest bit surprised.

They're overnighting me a new one, so at least I'll be able to use my MacBook again, finally.

Well, I'll already be waiting for one reason i.e. saving money to buy a MBP. Another reason to wait is to see what the upcoming products will be like and then I'll see what I'll buy later this year.

It would be fine to see that Apple cares more about the use of Video cards which in my opinion is really an underdeveloped part of the whole Apple hardware.

If anything this has convinced me that my plan to wait for a rev C is a good idea. I'm one who likes to know for a fact that something will just work, and if they have this much trouble with rev A, than rev B will probably have a sizable change, so C seems the best bet to an overly cautious individaul like myself. Besides, my iBook G4 will last me at least a year before it gets too slow for my semi-power hungry thirst (and then probably 5 more years when I use it solely as an audio recording machine).

Stop putting the notebook on your lap if it's warm, it wasn't designed to be placed on your lap in the first place. They are called portables not laptops, they are meant to be portable PC's but that doesn't mean it's okay to slap them down on your crotch.

What reasoning is that? If that's the case I shouldn't be working on a portable at the beach. If it's too warm to the touch, that means something is wrong. The day when a mobile PC becomes to warm to even place on your lap when you are on your bed, the beach, or anywhere comfortable, is the day they should just stop making them. I'm glad you aren't the head of Apple or some other computer maker.

There is a reason why Apple calls them portables and not Laptops. It's so they don't encourage users to place them on their laps, as they were not designed to be placed on someones lap, they were designed to be placed on a hard, level, smooth surface to allow for optimal heat disappation.

We debate about irrelevant things like, "is a Mac a PC?". Now we going to debate what a portable, laptop, and notebook is? Apples calls them what? I didn't know Apple was the forerunner on portable computing. Just because you perceive it that way does not mean you should go around posting nonsense and illogical rubbish. Instead of posting {censored}, why don't you post some sources based on your "facts". I have never felt uncomfortable placing a laptop or notebook on my lap. And if I ever do feel unconfortable with a Mac on my lap, I'll shove it up your God, Steve's ass and see how he feels.

Like I said, there is a design problem if portable machines are too warm to the touch and instead of spending more money on how it looks, maybe spend more money on other aspects of a portable computer. This reminds of some ignorant people thinking how great a product is, yet they are limited to some of it's basic design tasks. You want to be cool? Get a Mac. You want to be sexy, wear 6 inch stilettos. This type of reasoning makes me puke and it really does leave a foul taste just arguing about it. I guess if you have all the money to burn and technologicaly ignorant, you spend you two grand on it.
