verdant
Well, I don't get any, I just can't use my PC anymore because just the graphics driver stays alive. (I see the clock moving.) Maybe I've never ever had a kernel panic on this PC. Mysticus C* and myself, working together, recently isolated the origin of the frequent freezing during OS X system updates employing Apple MacOSXUpdCombo10.5.x.pkg Installers on nForce chipset MOBOs and/or MOBOs with nVidia graphics card(s) fitted....see the section "FOR SERIOUS STUDENTS OF OS X on a x86 PC SYSTEM" in my write-up here...... The problem arises because nVidia graphics kexts do not have an internal check process to see whether they are loading for an nVidia graphics card or not, which means that they can/may load for any nVidia/nForce chipset device in the MOBO/system with a IOPCIClassMatch listing nVidia as vendor....thus, without the device class/type identification present in the GeForce.kext and NVDAResman.kext, the nVidia graphics card drivers: NVDANV50Hal.kext NVDANV40Hal.kext NVDANV30Hal.kext NVDANV20Hal.kext NVDANV10Hal.kext will load up on an nForce chipset MOBO even when an ATI graphics card is installed, causing a kernel panic.... had same thing, no formal kernel panic.. It does not have to be a "formal" verbose screen classic kernel panic.......it can be a frozen mouse pointer.......a spinning rainbow wheel.......unresponsive buttons despite a movable mouse pointer.......windows frozen on the Desktop...... Using Leo4All AMD v4.1 10.5.4: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/1603345/3876110/ It came with the forcedeth driver installed. It didn't even recognise my LAN card... Network said I have an unplugged cable I removed that, used Kext Helper to install this and rebooted. Still didn't recognise my LAN card . Please help. Everything works smoothly... If only I could make this to work,,, You need to remove forcedeth.kext (and nForceEthernet.kext) before installing nForceLAN. For this reason I recommend installing nForceLAN using the .pkg because it will remove the older kexts for you. If you are still having problems try deleting and readding each ethernet device from network preferences.

KellyKelly
Sorry I forgot to list in my signature! I'm using EVGA 8800GTS 320MB. I tried all driver listed aboive and all of them causes the mouse freezes. KellyKelly
I tried the method but still doesn't work. I check each kext and make sure they have the IOPCIClassMatch thing. I tried the commend sudo dmesg | grep "loaded and registered" but still freeze with dual core. So at the end i'm still stuck with CPUS=1. Verdant or anyone please help me with this problem? Thanks!!! This is the only thing that's not perfect!

statman24
OK... don't mean to be a dolt... but exactly which one of the drivers do I download... the last one on the list (nForceLAN.zip ), or one of the ones on top (like nForceLAN_0.62.13.kext.zip )? Undead Surfer
Good stuff Eno. I'll give this driver a test later today and let you know what the results look like. Motherboard: MSI P6N Diamond Kernel: Voodoo 9.5.0 RAM: 4GB I was able to get my dual network interfaces working using the nForceEthernet.kext that I installed from the iATKOS 5i DVD. Simply by shutting down and unplugging the power and then botting back up into Leopard. DHCP worked like a charm. I get crashes when not using CPUS=1. I'm interested in seeing what the results will look like with this driver. Post back later.
Undead Surfer
Ok Chief. Just posting back with my update. Installed the driver --->> nForceLAN_0.62.13.kext.zip Booted up with just the -v flag. No CPUS=1. It's working great so far without hiccup. Flawless. I'll ensure to keep you posted. Great work man. Edit: Just an addition for those who have experienced it and will experience it. Sometimes, you may hit up on a "Link Load Error" when trying to load this driver and maybe some others as well. In my experience, this happens when you're running off the bootloader and kexts from your install DVD. Try reinstallling a bootloader on your hard drive and see if the problem persists. Nyar
Just to let you know, got a working configuration with 0.62.13n (test). First i tried various forcedeath or forcedeath-v drivers, got the network working, but every few days i got a kernel oops with the network. I don't know why. After installing the 0.62.13n via pkg not once a kernel oops occured. Great stuff! Thanks a lot. LawOf5
Hi, under 10.5.6 nForceLAN_0.62.13 was running fine, but installed after 10.5.7 update i had kernel panic by booting the mac. Anyone using it successfully under 10.5.7? Undead Surfer
I am trying to install this nforce 4 thing, but im kinda new to macs! how do i go bout doing this? i extracted the zip and ran loadkext file......what next? Thanks in advance This is how you would go about installing it manually. Firstly, goto your /System/Library/Extensions and remove the following kernel extensions (kexts): forcedeth.kext nForceEthernetController.kext You can do that by dragging them to the trash and inputting your password when requested or by entering the following commands in a terminal window:- sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/forcedeth.kext sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions/nForceEthernetController.kext Next, you drop the nForceLan.kext into the /System/Library/Extensions folder. You then set the correct permissions for the extensions by running the following commands from a terminal window:- sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/nForceLan.kext sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/nForceLan.kext After this, you remove the kernel extensions cache by running the following command from a terminal window:- sudo rm -R /System/Library/Extensions.mkext Give your computer a reboot and you should be good to go. The problem can be fixed by removing /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/nvenet.kext (this is a new location. nvenet.kext was not in IONetworkingFamily.kext prior to 10.5.7). egodestruct
I've been having a little trouble with this driver. It works and seems to be stable, the problem is that the speed isn't all that great. It's a gigabit ethernet port (evga nforce 680i chipset) with a gigabit router that is quite fast in windows, but for some reason on osx (ideneb 10.4, voodoo kernel) the port maxes out at around 100baseT speeds (about 10x as slow as it was in windows when doing file transfers). Any ideas or workarounds to this?

toxic64
Hi All, Anyone Had it working with device 0x076010de on an MCP78S chipset(the geforce 8200 chipset)? In fact, When I install any nforceLan Kext, I have the new hardware detected nofitication. The green light is on but ethernet gets an APIPA (169.xxx.xxx.xxx). I tried to configure with manual params but nothing seems to work. - I can't connect to my router nor internet. I tried the whole thing about unplugging the ethernet cable and the power cord....which also seems to be pure waste of time I'm going slightly depressed... please...help.. . egodestruct
I presume you have manually set your network speed to 1000baseT in Ethernet Configuration/Network/System Preferences....... It was set to auto (1000baseT), but I tried it with manual and there was no change (still slow). The really strange thing that happens though is: I can start a large transfer over the lan from my server to the hackintosh, and it will transfer at its regular slow pace. I can then initiate another transfer from my laptop (which is connected over wifi, but on the same router) to my hackintosh and all of a sudden the first transfer will speed up to 1000baseT speeds! As soon as I cancel the wifi transfer, the lan transfer slows back down. Strange. I'm currently dual booting with windows 7 and this behavior is not present there...in other words I get full speed on windows 7 all the time. Any ideas?
