mrWolff
Front row works for me. Sound works along with wifi & BT. One thing that happens to me and I don't know if it helps but sometimes when I restart or shutdown and come back sound wifi and BT and display drivers don't come up. I just restart and then do the: boot: -f and hit enter. Everything comes back just dandy. One thing I do have a problem with though is the cam is really slow. In xp it was perfect but if I use iBooth or iChat or anything it's super laggy. Any suggestions?
loonix
Hi all: I was wondering if it would be of benefit to post a how to over at the osx86project wiki in the how to section This way we could keep it clean and update it if necessary to reflect the latest method(s). It would also save a newbie to go through 500+ posts. Thoughts? AR aka. loonix
aimfire
One thing I should add, in System Prefs, Sound - it shows my output volume grayed out (I can't adjust slider) with the "Mute" box permanently ticked on (also grayed out, can't change...) darkten
Ok thanks, good idea... this is what I have now... does it look like I'm missing anything? thanks. (note: the sound icon dosn't even show up in the menu bar, blank space where it should be) Yep. that is the set i have, nothing more, nothing less. To further ensure this, I threw out my whole extras folder, re-installed via the chameleon on the iso, rebooted. Sound still works, so I know i isn't anything in there. I recall that i used the installer on the iso as well for the sound, the ALC268_Installer1. I really don't know what else to tell you
aimfire
Thanks for checking it out... I'm wondering if somehow I muted or turned off the sound when I had booted into WinXP the first time... kinda like what some people are experiencing with Bluetooth problems... I will try reinstalling both later tonight... worth a try and seems to be my only option at this point.

Type11
My extras folder looks exactly the same, thanks for looking at it, darkten. Still no sound so I'll try a reinstall. I doubt it will be any different but who knows you can try the EFI method though the kext should be the same just make sure you install 10.5.5 and then reaply the audio installer (on the iso) This is a new install boot123 image that does the install of the kext and bootloader for you into the EFI partition. It also launches the audio installer for you so all you have to do to get a working install from retail dvd AND be safe from messing it up in the future is run one script 1. Boot from iso http://rapidshare.com/files/152870825/dellmini.iso.zip.html 2. Once booted pull disk and insert Leopard Retail DVD 3. Install will fail at the end but this is ok reboot 4. on reboot boot from boot123 iso above again and enter -f when booting from your hard drive 5. on the iso above mount the image install.dmg. Run the script MiniScript. 6. answer questions 7. reboot 8. install apple updates (9. after updates if something doesn't work boot with -f) should have a fully working system that loads kext from efi partition. I have tested everal times now but always to internal drive. However as long as you get the right drive identifier (the script displays your current boot identifier) it should work fine form external This method is the easiest install right now and also has the bonus of full time machine retore support and not having to worry about reinstalling the boot loader or kext if main partition is wiped. Enjoy!
loonix
darkten and Type11 are your install methods different or the same? I am asking because I am trying to put this together: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph...Inspiron/mini_9 AR aka. loonix
UnaClocker
They are slightly different. Type11 uses a newer Boot132 method that hides the kexts in the hidden EFI partition. This is VERY handy when you need to do a time machine restore. Darkten uses the older method that keeps the kexts in a /Extra folder on the main partition. Viscaria
I followed Type11's instructions to install and setup, and eveything seems to work, but it takes several minutes after the boot screen finishes for the login window to appear. Has anyone else seen this? Also, I am not getting a transparent menu bar or the ripples in dashboard

It worked great, I now have audio! Installing the 10.5.5 update now... hopefully won't screw anything up. Also, I am not getting a transparent menu bar or the ripples in dashboard Ahh, looks like it's missing the "quartz extreme" bit...? I don't see it on mine either (Type 11 method)

PeteRock
it would seem that no method yet is 100% foolproof, sound and qi/qe not working even with everyone following the guide set out by type11 and darkten. maybe there are subtle differences which we are not aware of within the hardware? is the display resolution at 1024x600 or 800x600? aimfire
I got it working Replace the "IOGraphicsFamily.kext" file in Type11's package, with the newer one found in Darkten's package... run Type11's Script again, reboot, and voila - Quartz Extreme! So basically, I used Type11's package, with Darkten's "IOGraphicsFamily.kext" file... lol I now have audio and Quartz Extreme working. Thanks guys!' Here's the Darkten kext if you need it (hope you don't mind!). IOGraphicsFamily.kext.zip

Type11, looking at some of the recent posts it might be worth while pointing out some of the differences between the different methods in the wiki. Thoughts? What we maybe could do is "Option 1 the darkten way" and "Option 2 the Type11 method" and others (MSWindosx86 and iAtkos methods)? Also we could start a collection of the additional kexts and other downloads that are available.... Thanks AR aka. loonix

Unless there is somthing else different (permission perhaps?) I noticed that the Darkten one had a newer creation date, like Oct 6, I believe.... I didn't poke around to see what was in them. It worked for me though, it's kind some kind of magic, lol.

Type11
Humm very strange on the Quartz extreme. Man all these problems are so interesting as I just looked and mine is working fine and I never did a new install of the kext. If anyone else is seeing this can they hold off moving that kext over and try a troubleshooting step for me? Thanks glad at least the audio came back for you ;-) One more question after the update 10.5.5 did you boot with -f? Did you do -f after install install? cheers

Type11
Well first I would update to 10.5.5, boot with -f after that and rerun audio installer and see if quartz extreme works as that is what I always test for procedure. You can try this if you are good with terminal sudo -s mkdir /Volumes/EFI mount_hfs /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/EFI (assumes you did internal disk) cd /Volumes/EFI ./update.sh cd / umount /Volumes/EFI

Type11
after. Install 10.5, reboot with -f run miniscript, reboot, do all updates reboot -f, rerun audio installer, reboot
