Anyone know where you can learn EFI strings ??

Re-read my previous post. I provided a link to the EFI forum. Look at the top - sticky - post for a start. Also, if you have the Xcode developer tools installed use the IORegestryExplorer to have a look. It's the data in the IORegestery that the EFI strings are setting. It's an emulation of the hardware EFI used by the real Mac systems.

Er... I just 'accidentally' bought a Core 2 Duo processor off eBay. Unfortunately my 945 board isn't one of the ones which supports c2d. So I need a cheapish board which is largely OSx86 compatible and preferably supports overclocking, as the CPU I bought is 1.8Ghz but is supposed to be a good overclocker. Any recommendations?

You can try GA-P35-DS3X It's very compatible and I think it's cheap too :D

I`ve installed the Retail Leo......Yoohoooo :(....Everything works perfectly.....I can now update from now on directly by using Apples update utility.

One tiny problem...i can only boot using -v -f (-v by itself result "wainting for root device")...any idea y?

Thx again....munky & 3D man.

3d man: do you build your iso under Leopard or Tiger? The reason I ask is that I can burn your iso using Toast 9 or Disk Utility and it boots just fine. However when I try to make a modified copy for my system I can't get it to boot. The system says the CD is not bootable. It never attempts to load isolinux.

I have read that there are problems with burning iso on Leopard. Still, I don't appear to have problems burning an iso someone else created, just mine :(

bladerunner: i had endless problems creating an ISO. i ended up using a windows program called MagicISO via Parallels to edit an existing ISO and replace the initrd.img file. hth.

@alex99: if you just need extra kexts, then yes, but you're not doing anything other than using the normal boot-132 process really. unless for some reason your machine needs a patched kernel...?

I've burned my ISO in leopard with Leopard's Disk Utility.

When I was trying to make it work I've burned 7 CDs to test all worked but this is the better (I really wasted a lot of CDs :) )

EDIT:

This is the best method, I edit my disk with it

Part D) Create your DFE disk image (skip this step if you already have your own working DFE disk image)

1. Mount generic.iso

2. Copy all files from generic.iso to a new folder on your desktop named "MKIso"

3. Unmount generic.iso

4. Mount INITRD.IMG from your MKIso folder.

5. In the "/Extra/Extensions" folder of the mounted image, add any extensions you need to boot your machine.

6. For all added extensions, right click them and select "show package contents"

7. Open the Info.plist file in textedit, located in either the folder "Contents" or in the root folder of the extension itself.

8. Add:

CODE

<key>OSBundleRequired</key>

<string>Root</string>

at the end of the info.plist file, right before the final:

CODE

</dict>

</plist>

9. Save the file.

10. Repeat this process for ALL extensions you add to the folder.

11. Unmount INITRD.IMG

12. Open terminal and enter:

hdiutil makehybrid -o ~/Desktop/new.iso ~/Desktop/MKIso/ -iso -eltorito-boot ~/Desktop/MKIso/ISOLINUX.BIN -no-emul-boot
