lemon
Hello 3D mn, Today I have Installed from my retail disk, and I've successfully booted Vanilla installation and updated to 10.5.4 without any problems. I didnt update yet but I tthink it will work. just for testing I put all the kexts from a iDenebi install in to the extra / extensions folder. actually It runs very well. The only problem is the Grafics ethernet and audio string. If I add any of those strings with the EFI studio app I get a KP at start up. I tryed to change the order of the strings but no luck. you know more ? Start Edit -------- I managed 10.5.4 --> atempting 10.5.5 now. Still cant get the EFI strings working. Would be nice to get some more exact info from Blade Runner or 3Dman on how to get and set the strings. Pentium D930 / intel D945gntlkr mobo --------- end Edit Edit 2 I did it but, it didnt .... work Im getting this in the crash log Process: configd [45] Path: /usr/sbin/configd Identifier: configd Version: ??? moes
Confirm a working install on pentium4 (northwood!!) After a few interesting weeks reading here and burning about 100 cd's (rw) i finaly managed to get somewhere. Since the northwood pentium 4 (older then the prescot) couldn't boot the original dvd...with the install iso's here.....i was hoping that someone could fix it......bladerunners iso was such one.......it helped me to get past the Still waiting for...... SWFRD.......but kept hanging on some "headers" stuff. I realized i had to put in a working kernel. Since i had a successful install 10.5.4 with atkos....installed it on a test disk...i thought i could use some of it (toh kernel was used) Went in that install and did this: Put bladerunners iso on desktop>opened the / hd in Finder..(this is the hd with the installed system)....copied initrd.img from bladerunner iso to / hd. Opened the initrd.img.....took out the system.kext (trashed it) and put a copy of mine (system>library>extensions) Put in the install disk iatkos 10.5.4 (same one i used for the install i'm working on) open console and cd to the dvd.....cp -p toh /Volumes/initrd Unmount initrd....leave initrd.img on / Now use the BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY.iso (u have to put it on root hd) simply next to initrd.img....mount the iso. Then use CDBoot_RC2.sh......to create your new iso. To check unmount BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY.....mount your new iso.....mount intrd.img......cd to it in console (u cant see toh with Finder) and check. Well the rest rd(0,1)/toh -legacy -v -f rd=diskXsY Specs pentium 4 (northwood) 2,8 Albatron 865PE Pro MB 2,5 g ram 20gb ide primary master dvd secondary master Next....my amd laptop
munky
great stuff. amd wont work yet - the binaries on the DVD are not patched. need a kernel- or kext-based on-the-fly AMD patcher. i beleive one is in the works...
stojshic
OK, I'm such a n00b. I really need some help here. I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 version of Mac, and it works pretty good on my PC (only sound is 2.0 instead of 5.1, no big problem, everything else works cool). Can I install Mac with vanilla kernel or not on my PC? What do I need to boot retail leopard? My PC specs: Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz MoBo: Abit IC7 Graphics: GeForce 7600, 512Mb 2GB Ram Some ethernet card ( I don't think it's important...) So please, can someone help me with this? What do I need? For now I only have Kalyway 10.5.2 install disc, so I guess I'll need Leo retail disc, and that boot-132? Anything else? Thanks Well, the answer to your first question is most likely, yes. What you need is a boot-132 iso. Like the ones provided in earlier posts by 3dman, me and others. Then, you need a retail Leopard install dvd. Not a Mac recovery dvd. Then, read the guide by Munky in the first post of this thread. Burn the boot-132 iso to a cd and make sure it boots your Leopard install dvd. You will need to partition your drive as GPT/GUID using the disk utility on the Leopard install dvd. The reason I said you should be able to do this is because your syatem specs, at least what you have provided of them, are very much like my own. My system is running an un-patched Leopard 10.5.5 installed from the retail dvd. Good luck.
munky
to clarify one thing: you can NOT use the vanilla kernel on your machine. however, you can use a 'vanilla' unmodified install and boot using a patched kernel. this will allow you to do Software Update etc without things breaking. only Core processors can use the vanilla kernel, but using the method outlined here, you can boot the unmodified DVD, and using the method outlined in the second thread linked from my sig, you can boot an unmodified install via the hidden EFI partition. you CAN boot the retail DVD. you need a boot-132 disc with the relevant patches and a patched kernel, then follow my guide in post 1 of this thread. cheers - munky OK, I'm such a n00b. BigMacHead
Hello, I have a machine (described below) that I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on without a problem and now I am trying this install. I erased the drive but didn't re-partition because it was already GUID. I formated the 200mb EFI I added the files to the EFI - no kext so far though. file: efi_boot.zip I downloaded the boot 132 file: BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY.zip Now I boot the 132 ok. Then put the retail DVD in and typed -v enter Then F8 for the CD_ROM and and -v enter again. It boots to the purple light nebula splash screen and I get the beach ball spinning for a while. Then the beach ball disappears after a while and I am left looking into the purple of light of the nebula until I turn old and grey and go into the light.... Here is my hardware: MB: GA-EP35-DS3L/S3L Chipset: North Bridge: Intel P35 Express South: Intel ICH9 Intel: Core 2 Quad Q6600 Audio: Realtek ALC888 Video: 8800 GT 512mb wifi: ASUS WL-138G V2 Any ideas?? MTZeon
Although I have a C2D, my motherboard requires me to have ToH kernel to fully boot. I've been reading all your posts and find boot-132 very fascinating and a landmark on OSx86 history. I've just cooked up a boot-132 with all kernels available for leopard, so I can test which one will work better, and rigged it with the kext's I need to get my system up and running (AGP, sound, SATA, network). Going to test now

You can install leopard from retail DVD on MBR but you'll need to edit OSInstall.mpkg on your retail DVD to do this. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=116505 You'll find the steps in Part B.
