Coelacanth
Guys, I've been following the post about Vanilla Kernel for sometime now, and it got me confused just recently. On some post, they are saying that Vanilla Kernel can update from Software Update without the fear of crashing the system. I have been a Hackintosh user for about a year now, and been using the Vanilla Kernel on my machine since 10.5.1. The question i have in mind is, is there really nothing else to do to to upgrade to the latest version via software update? Not even deleting AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext? The only way i can update is by following Netkas' guide, otherwise it will not work. Please...enlighten me on my confusion. relikwie
I know there exists a disabler kext for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext, so deleting or taking account for this one is not needed. But sure there will always be other kernel extensions from apple that "hackintosh" users need to patch enabling devices, so blindly updating via software update can be risky, using stock kernel or not. And even if you do not need to use patched extensions, there is dsmos.kext (don't steel mac os) that always needs patching AFAIK. Guess stock kernel means more update friendly when kernel / system.kext or even drivers that depend on new kernel are included with the update. Maybe a more knowledgeable person who can answer this one (especially about dsmos) Regards, relikwie.
