finally got trackpad working thanks to this forum ;)

my issues are likely related to my installation of ffscroll and 120302 other ps2 kexts which i likely did no fully remove :) (i used spotlight to search for ps2 and ffscroll and the only hit is the voodoops2.kext how else do i uninstall?)

1. voodoops2 pref panel crashes out, with synpaticsnotfound... if i hit ok, its takes down the pref panel

2. tapping doesnt work? its enabled in the pref panel that doesnt stay open more than 1 click :D

3. two finger works and the touchpad is at least useable.. thanks everyone here.

can someone adress my issues?

the trackpad is basically unuseable because it treats every finger swipe of mine as two fingers..

and i cant open the pref panel because it crashes out with synaptics notfound...

:D

help. thanks :D

I have gone back and am redoing my installation from 10.5.1 and working my way forward on a Vanilla install. I have upgraded to 10.5.4 without problem and am at the step regarding the AHCI. If I replace it with the older version it won't boot and says "Still waiting for root device". However, before I replaced it my BIOS was already in AHCI and running fine is this step necessary then or can I keep using the current version of the AHCI or will there be some future error.

Thanks

You do not need the AHCI fix if you do a Vanilla Install

Have you read the installation instructions?

You need to use the Trackpad.prefpane located within the instructions (link below) to control your trackpad, not the voodoo one.

The VoodooPS2 prefpane does not work just now for ALPS trackpad.

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1191163

Your two finger scroll issue, is due to the fact that your fingers must be huge!!, er i mean the driver uses the area that's being touched on the trackpad to determine if two fingers are being used or not. I calibrated this value by using my 2 fingers and a womans 2 fingers (still attached) averaged it out and hard coded it into the driver.

I can make a plist entry and recomplie so that this can get adjusted to suit all finger sizes.

@Talisman, did you change any of the code before compiling the VoodooPS2Keyboard.kext for the media button fix?

Thx

I am trying to go from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6. Here are the steps I took:

1. Downloaded and installed Chameleon 2.0-r431.pkg.zip and installed chameleon.

2. Downloaded the Bootloader for the PC EFI V9 from Netkas post and replaced the boot file in my system root.

3. Downloaded and placed the DSDT.aml in my system root.

4. Tried to reboot.(Unsucessful)

- First I tried booting from the internal hard drive. It never loaded the Chameleon screen where I can choose which partition to boot from but instead booted straight to the apple screen and soon after had a grey screen.

- However, I can still boot fromt he boot 123 disc and successfully booted into os x and from there installed 10.5.6 combo update.

How do I fix chameleon so I no longer use the boot disc?

Thanks

*Edit- After doing some googling I think the problem is that pc efi v9 is not compatible with chameleon v2 so I tried to install v10 with chameleon v2. Should this suffice?

All,

M1530 XPS users...

Just to let you all know...

Chameleon RC2 is out.

I've installed and added the GraphicsEnabler=Yes option to kernel flags with OSx86 Tools Utility. Rem'ed out the NVidia DSDT fix in my DSDT.aml and graphics is working in 10.5.7 with HDMI to HDMI output. I've not checked VGA or HDMI to DVI.

See the following link:

http://www.insanelymac.com/chameleon-2-rc2-is-out/

Below is the DSDT.aml and DSDT.dsl files that i've used.

DSDT_M1530.zip

This is just another option to enable NVidia Graphics on a XPS M1530.

I just installed the RC2 with GraphicsEnabler=y and your DSDT.aml. OpenGL Viewer score got reduced to less that half (from 125~1600 to 120~700). Otherwise graphics performance seems fine (tested with NFS Carbon).

Right now I changed back to RC2 with GraphicsEnabler=n and old Brandon 2004/Chrysaor DSDT.aml

Will look into this later when I get some time...

is there anythin on the nvidia shutdown issue? got the same issue with my quadro fx 3700m

Yes there seems to be a link between shutdown issues and Nvidia Drivers.

My desktop has a Nvidia 9600GT and the OpenHaltRestart.kext fixes the issue due to this kext rewriting the PE_Halt_Restart kernel function.

My Dell XPS 1530 has the Nvidia 8600GT and this kext doesn't work cause the kernel shutdown sequence crashes before executing the PE_Halt_Restart function, default or rewritten.

I've spent a bit of time debugging the kernel and the crash happens when the following function is executed:

// Notify legacy clients

applyToInterested(gIOPriorityPowerStateInterest, platformHaltRestartApplier, &ctx);

This function is within the IOPMrootDomain.cpp file.

If this function doesn't execute the Power Managed attached devices don't get the message that the system is shutting down, but PE_Halt_restart function can then execute and halts all CPUs but not all of the devices thus we have a new shutdown issue.

Basically i think we need to remove this function from the kernel add a new shutdown function to the kernel or modify OpenHaltRestart to send a Shutdown signal to PCI devices in a different way before halting all CPUs.

I've been trying to do this but I've had no success.

If anyone can help this would be great!!!

I will keep trying :)

Hi ab___73,

I don't know anything about programming so i think i won't be able to help but... i just would like to thank you for your hard work.

First because of the update voodoops2 kext which works great and also because you're looking for a solution to our shutdown/restart problem (even if you don't... the most important is that you try ;-) )

Keep up the good work and if you need testers, do not hesitate.

Best Regards,

Joshua.

AB,

Firstly, awesome job on the keyboard kexts.

I'm using these on a different laptop with the ALPS trackpad and they work fine, however I have a couple of issues after waking from sleep.

- The trackpad preferences are not remembered after waking up, i.e. tap to click etc. After reboot they work again.

- In Finder windows or menus the mouse hovers erratically between it's physical location and the currently selected text item on the menu. Once you cursor up/down within wither the file list or menu, this stops.

Both of these only apply after a wake from sleep.

Many thanks.

This is the VoodooPS2Controller which makes the media keys work. It has the VoodooPS2keyboard.kext from trip2me's work which I got from the Voodoo projects forum and the VoodooPS2Trackpad which ab__73 modified for the Alps in the M1530s. With this Butler is no longer required.

Thanks goes out to the guys that got this working. Very cool to have tapping working before / after sleep. And of course the 2 finger scrolling is slick stuff.

so kudos to ab__73 and talisman and anyone else.

one side note that I noticed... the 2 finger scrolling that I get on my Asus Z62F which has a synaptics <sp> trackpad seems to be a little less "touchy"... I'm guessin this is answered somewhere in the thread but is there a way to slow down the scrolling sensitivity? I changed the speed in the trackpad pref pane but it doesn't really seem to adjust it that much. It seems that on the Alps pad, I have to instead just rock my fingers up and down instead of actually pulling them down the pad for precision.

No major complaints however... this is MUCH better than not having it at all, and really completes the installation.

thanks again!

Great guide, got everything working except...

On resuming from sleep I have no display but the laptop does fire up.

- I have no bios password set.

- I have superhai's sleep fix installed.

- I use Brandon2004/Chrysaor's DSDT.aml without clamshell.

- Closing the lid on the laptop does initiate sleep

I used the iAtkos v7 installer for my initial installation.

Any help resolving this hugely appreciated. (Feel free to whack me with the search bat if this is easily found, I had no luck in search).

Still really struggling with sleep.

Did a full reinstall of OSX as I had to make a larger partition anyway.

iAtkos v7,

vanilla kernel,

voodoopower,

voodoobattery,

voodooUSBEHCI,

clamshellDisplay,

VoodooHDA,

voodooPS2Controller,

AppleDecrypt,

SMBIOSResolver

IOSDHCIBDevice

NVidia Enabler

Broadcomm Wireless

Yukon LAN

Everything is working great but still cannot wake from sleep after hitting power button or closing the lid on my M1530. I hear the drives spin up but the display doesn't come on and the system doesn't come out of sleep.

Any help greatly appreciated.

yes. I have a retail install up to 10.5.7, when i updated to 10.5.8 the system boots up and i see the cursor, but it doesnt get to the log on screen

After doing the update but before rebooting, you want to re-apply appledecrypter.kext IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext from the first post.

If you are stuck like ChedS808 here is, try booting from the Boot disk wingrunr21 has in the first post and picking the hard drive to continue from. If you need to put the above kexts on a USB stick and apply once you are booted.

Hi,

I've just completed my retail install and updated to 10.5.7 and have almost got it working 100% :D .

I've got a few issues,

1. Bluetooth:

My Bluetooth module is not present, from what I've read on the forums this may be an issue caused by me turning bluetooth off in my previous windows install, is there anyway to fix this?

edit:

after some searching I found

If your Bluetooth is not being recognized by Mac OS X, here's how to fix it.

The problem arises only for the people that have bought a laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed, or have downloaded and installed the Dell Wireless 350/355 Bluetooth Internal Module Vista drivers.

The Bluetooth Vista driver actually loads a piece of firmware upgrade from Cambridge Silicon Radio (the Bluetooth chip manufacturer) that enables the "Vista Profile Pack" i.e. a set of utilities developed for the Microsoft Bluetooth stack and API.

These utilities, among other things, are used to initialize the Bluetooth chip in a way that allows a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard to be enabled via the BIOS before the boot phase.

Without downgrading the Bluetooth firmware, you can still have it fully functional within Mac OS X if you boot into Vista first and then restart into the Mac.

Here is how to restore default operation of the CSR Bluetooth.

1) Boot into Vista and download from the Dell support site the latest BT 350 driver for Windows XP and unzip it to a folder

2) Find a directory in that folder called "DFU" (usually located in 2KXP/DFU/)

3) Find the file called "DFU.exe", right click it and choose "Run as administrator"

4) Wait until the firmware downgrade has finished, then reboot into Vista and you will find that the bluetooth chip is now not recognized. Go to Device manager and manually re-install the Vista Bluetooth driver (don't use the setup.exe provided by the driver pack, simply install it using the "have disk" way and load the .inf file directly from the Vista driver directory).

5) Reboot into Mac OS X. Voil

I know this is a dirty workaround (you'll lose the Vista advanced features of "Vista Profile Pack", but it is useful to have a working Bluetooth adapter in Mac OS X if you use this as your primary OS).

However I have not dual booted OS X and Vista does anyone know if i can achieve this through visualization or if at all possible another way of doing this?

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks.

p.s: i have an xps m1330

Is the bluetooth module not present or just off? If the latter you can try Applications->Bluetooth File Exchange

If Bluetooth is off it will prompt you to turn bluetooth on and it might work.

Switch and BIOS are both on. When I open Bluetooth File Exchange I get a Bluetooth Module not present error.
