Just installed 10.5.7 update on my Dell m1330 and it works fine so far. Had to reinstall a couple of kexts but other than that I'm good to go.

I have just updated as well, the only thing I had to re-install was the AppleHDA.kext, which I believe I had to do because I had it installed wrongly in the first place. So, basically, I would assume everyone else will not need to reinstall any kext after the update.

Which kexts did you have to reinstall?

Just a heads up, 10.5.7 makes HDMI (not the output, but the input in the monitor) sort of unusable (no native resolution), so if you are using HDMI->HDMI you will be affected. HDMI->DVI etc works fine.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by input in the monitor.

For instance, I hook my laptop up to my 46" TV using HDMI -> HDMI. Will this be affected?

I believe just the AppleHDA.kext to get the sound back (because it was lost in the upgrade), and re-editing of the AppleUSBEHCI.kext Info.plist for EHCISleepEnabler (to enable sleep).

Everything else seems to be working OK so far. I will do some additional testing tonight.

Yes.

If you are connecting any digital output (not sure about analog) to HDMI input in the monitor, you won't get native resolution until its fixed.

Temporary solution is using switchresx but I haven't tested that, just using DVI until its fixed.

Well updated to 10.5.7. HDMI output works the same to my TV as it did before, so I guess I dodged a bullet there.

But, I simply can't seem to get sleep working and I keep getting the 'you need to restart your computer screen' when I try to install certain kexts. Anyone else experiencing this?

I have an XPS 1330 and tried to edit the NVinject .plist file for sleep and the clamshell kext gives me the restart screen.

Yep, have same problem, had to re-install VoodooUSBEHCI and edit info.plist to get sleep working.

Also, used to get restart screen, but it somehow stopped doing it by itself. I am using brandon's DSDT and no nvinject.

Updated to 10.5.7, everything fine, graphics from DSDT, audio had to reinstall, Marvell Yukon now has life!! Sleep won't work because VoodooUSBEHCI needs an update(?). Overall, happy so far.

PS I don't use the HDMI so I can't say much about that there. Sorry

Peace

The update replaces IOUSBfamily.kext. You need to apply the edit to Info.plist as per the Voodoo instructions.

Hi to all, my HD is dead

I have bought a new one and I have installed it.

In diskutility I have maked two partitions, one for Leopard (Journaled extended) and one for XP (dos fat).

After I have installed Leopard (retail version this time).

I have upgraded it to *.7 and I have istalled all the Kexts.

All is gone well but, when I have begun the XP installation I have had a surprise.

I have found the HD integral without partitions.

Someone can say to me how I can install XP without reainstall Leopard.

Thx for help.

Did you do a GUID or MBR?? Check the size of the partition your XP reports. Does it show the entire drive or only the dos partition. Chances are it will not recognize the hfs+.

If nothing works, get hold of an external hard drive and make an image of your Leopard. Install XP and if that destroys your leopard, then you can reinstall it from the image.

Hi talisman, thx for reply.

When I star the Xp installation all I can see is the full lenght of the HD. (320 Gb)

I dont rember how I have formatted it but I think as MBR.

I'll try with GPARTED, what do u think about this solution?? and... I have a TimeMachine backup.

Can I use it to raplace the Leopard or the solution is only from image.

thx so much.

Time machine should work... I personally prefer an image or a restored copy on another drive. Check what gparted says.

Also boot into your mac and open up disk utility. Click on the main hard drive and it should tell you about the partition map scheme in the bottom....

I have tried Gparted but nothing change.

I have seen the fat32 partition and I have change it in NTFS

after I have tried to install Xp but, as usual, I have seen the HD without partitions

The only new is that now Leopard dont start.

Mark the leopard partition as active(boot) using the gparted and it shoud boot up.... Did you check if you have a GUID or MBR??

ahh yes, sorry. The partition is Guid.

I'll try to make it active.

XP cannot see GUID... as far as I know... You have to have MBR if you want dual boot with OSX / XP on the same disk.

Google around and see if anyone has come up with anything....

Now I have understand this.

The good new is that I have found, here, a thread about a retail Leopad MBR partition installation tutorial.

The question, from ignoring, is: how can I replace the actual setup in the new installation??

Can I make an disk image or a TM to use after even I havent a single disk for Leopard but a partition??

PS: I hope u understand what I mean with my bad english

OK, well I thought I figured out why my sleep wasn't working. Turns out I was editing the wrong file.

So what I did was reinstall two kexts to replace the files I was editing incorrectly, nvinject and voodooUSBEHCI.

Next I restarted after these were installed. Good so far. From here I edited the plist file in IOUSBfamily and also added the built-in key into the plist file in nvinject.

Next I opened up disk utility and repaired permissions. I restarted the computer and when it gets to the white Apple logo screen, I just get a spinning circle, and it will hangs.

Any ideas what I could have did and how to fix this? I don't understand, I've did this before and haven't had problems.

Edit: OK guys, made some progress. Tried using the newiso boot disc from the first post. Tried all options, none worked. Tried them all again several times, until -F made it boot, but I couldn't type anything, it was like one of the keys was stuck, so after rebooting several more times with the same occurrence, I decided to take out the CD and try it once more. Well this time I was able to type and could log-in. When I logged in it said nvinject not found, well I reinstalled that kext and now everything seems to be working fine. I have no idea how any of this fixed my problem, but I'm happy!

Let see... If you want to install retail OS X on MBR you will find my guide in the second post of this thread. Its at the end of wingrunr21's guide. The idea is simple.

1. Install retail OS X on an external hard drive with a GUID partition.

2. Restore from this install onto your laptop's MBR partition.

For the details read the guide. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a permissions problem to me. Glad you got it working.

Mmm, Its figure simple.

I think there isnt a way to save my actual perfect configuration.

The only XP that can see GUID is XP x64. Vista and 7 can see GUID just fine. As for saving your configuration, why not use Carbon Copy Cloner to do that?

@talisman

Thx for reply. I have do what u have said to me but, I dont know why, the external HD dont start.

@wingrunr21

Thx for reply. Thx for software too. I have download it and I have maked a backup of my HD.

The question is. Can now make a MBR installation and then replace all from my backup??

What happen if I make a new installation, with something of different?

And, can I copy the content of the CarbonCopy backup HD during the phase of installation without to complete it?

Thx because we are all much kind to help me
