I have an M1330 with the X3100 Vid card, I dont have any problems with Shutdown, Restart. MY internal mic works too (with VoodooHDA)

Wingrunr,

-Will VoodooHDA make the internal mic work for us? (I thought there was no solution for that as of right now)

-Will your BootCD work with Inspiron 1318(With intel graphics)?

Got a question, how come if I install any form of cpu kext ie smbiosresolver, voodoopower, I my cpu drops from 2.0 to 1.81 GHz i can only imagine that the fsb from the efi is wrong where its supposed to be 800 and becoming 725, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Wingrunr, thank you very much for your guide.

After having decent success dualbooting OSX on my 1530 with the iDeneb distro I decided to do clean retail install. I have OSX installed and am at your 'Update to 10.5.6 Vanilla' step (even though I am on 10.5.6 I am sure there are updates to be had).

I installed Chameleon 2.1.0-r431.pkg, I also installed the bootloader from netkas's site - overwriting the boot file in the root.

I grabbed Brandon2004/Chrysaor's DSDT.am for the 1530 (tried the one originally posted and the most recent one) and applied the proper chown/chmod commands.

I removed the boot cd to confirm I booted cleanly and I received what I assume to be a kernel panic (grey screen, pls reboot, etc). After reading through this thread I reinstalled Chameleon and did NOT overwrite the boot file from Netkas. Chameleon screen loaded, chose OSX, and eventually hit the same kernel panic.

I can boot fine using the CD and choosing device 80.

When it boot it doesn't give me the option to do a -v or provide other startup options. Any ideas what could be causing this, or how to best troubleshoot it?

Thanks again!

You should probably try reinstalling the chameleon, I would guess that is what is causing the problem. If that doesn't help, try removing kexts that you installed one by one untill you get the system to boot. If the kext is the one that is always required to boot the system(for example SMbiosResolver, Decryptor, etc) then just try to reinstall those.

Meanwhile, I am have just noticed a problem when I can't boot into Mac Os if I have an SD card inserted in the slot. Do you guys have same effect when having an SD card in the slot? Is there a solution for that?

I need to have it there all the time since I use it for ready boost on the Windows 7 partition.

Do you guys also have the problem where you sometimes loose sound after you put the laptop to sleep?

I installed the VoodooHDA kext and it did work, somewhat. I had output sound still, but the volume was quite lower than the AppleHDA kext.

The internal mic did seem to work according to the sound properties in preferences, it could detect when I made noise. But when I tried to test it out using Skype, the other person couldn't hear me no matter what my settings were.

Anyone else have any better luck?

Thanks Danik,

After reading this thread from start to finish I realized I did not copy the kexts from my boot-132 to my installation. I can't find it in the guide portion of thread that I printed out, but found it in a later reply.

@Chrysaor:

I installed your latest DSDT.aml that you mentioned included audio. While the graphics portion work great on my 1530 (QE/CI, VGA out, etc) the audio does not appear to work. Is another kext required?

Yes, you need AppleHDA from http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142521 for best results.

You don't have to use HDAEnabler/ALCinject/efi strings etc.

EDIT: I confirmed installing the AppleHDA and VoodooPS2 kexts to the /System/Library/Extensions made everything start working. So I suppose I need to figure out why Chameleon isn't loading the kexts from /Extra/Extensions.

I modified the Info.plist of the kexts to have OSBundleRequired = Root, and rebuilt the Extensions.mkext with mkext tool. Any suggestions?

i have read through this guide completely, multiple times and i am very excited to try this experiment of putting osx on my m1330. I have downloaded the vanilla image but cannot burn it and instead of wasting a dvd i have opted to use my ipod.

what do i have to do in order to boot off my newly formatted (mac journaled) with the osx dmg.

thanks

VoodooHDA is not ready yet. I specified this when I announced it earlier.

I noticed that I often loose audio after I put the laptop to sleep. Do you have same problem? Do you how I might try solving it?

-I am using Brandon's DSTD, HDAEnabler.kext, AppleHDA.kext

Audio is finicky on these machines. I don't use Brandon's DSDT because it never worked correctly on my machine. So no, I don't know how to solve that problem.

I'd like to again thank everyone who has responded to my questions.

I'm pretty satisfied with the way I have my 1530 configured, but before I go off and start settling in on the system I wanted to check that my performance is within the range that you would expect. I'm attaching my xBench, OpenGL Extensions and OpenMark results. I'd appreciate a quick glance to confirm these are in line with what you would expect.

Thanks again!

OK, this thing is driving me crazy!

I tried re-installing AppleHDA, and HDAEnabler, and the DSDT.aml hundred of times, but no matter what I do I now never get any device listed in the sound preferences. So, after I re-install apple HDA or HDA enabler I don't see any audio device being detected by the system. Some help me with this eratating thing out?

How were you able to get X3100 working with shutdown and restart? Have you got accelerated video with the correct drivers loaded? I was under the impression neither worked.

Did you use a retail install or something else? Can you point me in the direction of the steps you've used?

From reading this thread it sounds like there are loads of problems for some and not for others. Is it strictly related to whether one has an m1330 or m1530 and whether the graphics card is X3100 or Nvidia? I've got an m1330 with X3100 video.

Cheers.

Repair Permissions with the Disk Utility.... and make sure you are using the correct AppleHDA.

Have been doing both of these things when I was re-installing them.

OK, fixed everything by re-installing them again, but this time I had to plug my mic to the mic jack, and it worked. I think it has something to do with that, like when switch the jacks functions.

Another thing I wanted to ask, does the disable wifi hardware button work for you? For me it works half way, once you disable the wifi, you can't re-enable it. Or if you boot the OS with disabled wifi switch position then it is not working too. Do you experience same thing?

Yeh there's nothing you can do about this due to the fact that there's no power management in the wifi drivers compatible with the XPS.

Anyone update to 10.5.7 yet? I'm nervous to try it with this being my first install for OSX86.

Also, is there any reason for me to upgrade to Chameleon 2.0? I have an older version. I don't dual boot, only run OSX.

Thanks in advance.

Just installed 10.5.7 update on my Dell m1330 and it works fine so far. Had to reinstall a couple of kexts but other than that I'm good to go.
