After doing the update but before rebooting, you want to re-apply appledecrypter.kext IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext from the first post.

If you are stuck like ChedS808 here is, try booting from the Boot disk wingrunr21 has in the first post and picking the hard drive to continue from. If you need to put the above kexts on a USB stick and apply once you are booted.

after installing the combo update downloaded from apple.com, i tried to reïnstall these kext before hitting restart. However, i was not able to do so! Every application was blocked, and i could not manually insert kexts into the extensions folder...

I tried booting up with the bootCD from the first post, but it renders me with a keyboard where a key is virtually stuck... Cannot log in, really annoying.

Is there an easy workaround for this? I believe i have read about the same problem before.

Or do i have to build a bootCD with all te correct kexts for the keyboard?

Too bad i forgot to install fingerprint, maybe that could have worked..

Thanx in advance

(BTW; the alps trackpad kext works perfectly!)

You don't have any USB keyboards around? If not it might be time to pony up $10-25.

offcourse i have, but that did not work. The problem was the internal keyboard.

Anyway, the problem is fixed, running 10.5.8 right now, just no wireless (1395) anymore and no more 2 finger scrolling, but that sould be easy to fix i presume.

I don't know how i did it actually, tried with the boot-cd, that gave me the stuck key. Then i booted into Ubuntu in an attempt to change the permissions of the drive, so i could edit the kexts from there, but no succes.

Then i wanted to boot up into windows Vista, and the damn thing crashed (obviously).

Tried to boot again into OSX, without the CD and it worked.. Can't really explain why.

Running an iAtkos v5 MBR install.

Has anybody with a M1330 NVidia graphics Vanilla install tried upgrading to 10.5.8 yet? If so, does sleep work? I've heard people complaining that 10.5.8 breaks sleep. Just curious if that applies to this computer. It's working well right now with 10.5.7, so I'm a little nervous to upgrade it :D

Guy's I'm having a major bootloader issue. It hangs at the gray screen and loops. My problem might lie in the fact that I did a retail install of 10.5.6 and updated straight to 10.5.8 via system update? I followed the bootloader instructions on the first page, and can see the appropriate text as well as the option to boot into W7, but when I choose Mac it just hangs. have the XPS M1530 nVidia 8600 card. Here's the crash log:

Thanks for the tip :) I'll wait.

Huh? After any apple upgrade you usually have to reinstall kexts which might have been overwritten. The sound kext seems a likely candidate, not big deal to have to re-install a kext.

Re: sleep broken. You probably just have to re-do the readme edit for SuperHai's VoodooUSBECHI sleep enabler kext since that pInfo probably got replaced.

I don't think those issues should be a recommendation not to update. I updated one of my other platforms without any problems.

Anyone looking to update to 10.5.8 should download and use the combo update though.

Did you get Brandon's DSDT.aml in place and load the AppleDecrypt.kext, IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext, and SMBIOSResolver.kext. The hang at gray screen is usually one of DSDT, or missing the decrypter or power management kexts.

any ideas? :(

If you can boot from the CD try re-doing the installation of the DSDT and AppleDecrypt.kext.

As Cbodom says you can certainly just remove the IntelCPUPowerManagement.kext completely. But as Wingrunr21 says "I personally prefer a disabler kext. Download and install IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext" You can get it from the first post and install it.

Don't forget to repair the disk permissions with the disk utility after putting the kexts in place.

HOLY MISSING KEXT FILES BATMAN... I found it... Under AppleACPIPlatform.kext... It's in the Plugins Folder... Deleted it.. And FFScroll and FFScrollDaemon and ApplePS2Controller.kext and the config files for FFScroll... Then rebooted for glorious Two Finger Scrolling and NOOOO... KERNEL PANIC... LOL... Should have known deleting AppleACPIPlatform.kext was a bad thing... LOL... Ok... So to save my machine I boot into Vista with MacDrive and Replace AppleACPIPlatform.kext in extensions... And then at the same time deleted AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext within AppleACPIPlatform.kext (BTW Sorry for being a complete and utter noob and posting like a mad man because I didn't know what the H**L I was talking about Talisman *wink*)... Rebooted... Crossed Fingers... OMG IT BOOTS... OMG... KEYBOARD and MOUSE WORK... Two finger Scrolling... I am a GOD... Two Fingers... Awwww man... Nothing... LOL So that's where I am... Hope atleast someone will laugh... Will let you know how it goes...

Heratiki

EDIT: Ok... Redownloaded the Trackpad Pref Page and replaced it and low and behold it was available in System Prefs again... Setup Two Finger scrolling in there... AND BAM!!!... I'm so happy you couldn't slap the smile of my face... Now I will test the Media Buttons and hope they work as well... w00t...

SECOND EDIT: Let's see... Everything is working perfectly (Aside from Shutdown and Restart). Now even two finger scrolling is easy to do... Sometimes when I put it to sleep I can't tap click with the Touchpad but its as easy as opening the trackpad options and turning off tap clicking and turning it back on... So no biggie there... Only one of my media keys works and that's to skip forward in a song... Hitting play when you have a song selected simply sets it so you can edit the song name... I'm sure I'll figure it out... Should be interesting... Anyone have any ideas on the Media Keys would be nice to get my IR Remote working correctly since it's hard coded into the BIOS to mimic keyboard commands (amazing how many people don't know that).

great...i was trying to respond to the same issue...followed your steps and now have a kernel panic and keep digging a deeper hole. messed with the ACPIPlatform, removed the kext. I hate this {censored}.

Thanks Ace, much appreciated. Turns out I missed a crucial step that is just so silly I'm embarrassed to admit it...........I forgot to install the kexts from the boot 132 iso. Dumb.

Here's a quick rundown of my complete DB install:

XPS m1530

-modded retail disk to read MBR

-use disk utility to create 2 partitions (1ex journaled, one fat32)

-install 10.5.6 retail

-use system update and get all system updates

-install chameleon and follow the excellent guide on how to do it correctly (1st pg)

-install kexts from boot132 iso

-reboot

-insert other OS disk, boot from it.

-install into fat32 partition

-when install is done, use gparted live cd to change boot flag to OSX

-DONE!

thx to all for your help and to wingrunr for a great tut!!

Hi,

after update to IDENEB 10.5.8, my DELL XPS M1530 SLEEP DONT WORK.

I have reinstalled the SUPERHAI's guide but SLEEP DONT WORK.

HELP ME!

I had a similar problem with sleep after 10.5.8 update. I installed SleepEnabler.kext from this superb guide http://thireus.dareyourmind.net/index.php/...os-1058-install

and now it works again in my xps m1330.

It works only with flag cpus=1, but before (with 10.5.7) sleep worked with both cpus.

And I have another problem. After sleep ethernet doesn't work. Whereas if I remove the ethernet cable before the sleep, then ethernet works after sleep (wakeup).

Help me and thanks in advance,

Gabriele

for the ethernet to work after sleep read this: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...t&p=1157623

You will have to do two things.

1. Copy the 88E8040 section from the Info.plist in the AppleYukon2.kext from the attached kext (look in the Plugins folder) into the 10.5.8 kext.

2. Edit the AppleYukon2 binary to put in the mac id for your ethernet card. (The hex sequence is in a slightly different place in 10.5.8 than in 10.5.7 but not too far off)

Can anyone help with integrating C-states and P-states into the DSDT?

Dumped the SSDT tables and put them into the DSDT, still doesn't work with AICPUPM and DropSSDT. This is for M1530/T8300.

DSDT.dsl.zip

I assume you're trying to do away with the need for a kext regulating CPU speed/throttling in which case the person to get in contact with is Superhai, who seems to be the one most likely to have the knowledge to help.

this has been one of the most protracted, painful and frustrating experiences of my computer-using life. i despise voodoo kexts. i despise {censored} kernel panics. i hate having stayed up until 4am over and over again, wasting hours and hours of my precious life...trying to get the goddamn trackpad to work like it should.

this is {censored}. i despise my computer, and i despise having to have fifteen {censored} pages of forums open to try and find a solution. there has GOT to be a better way of managing information.

stick a fork in me. i'm {censored} done.

at least for tonight.

According to this THIS post there are workarounds "The simplest is to use DSDT Patcher to create a dsdt.aml with "Force HPET" checked, and then remove Disabler.kext, NullCPUPowerManagement.kext, or any other disablers from your system. Your CPU will run about 8 degrees hotter, but sleep will be fully functional. "

Yup. Me too. SleepEnabler.kext works perfect! Now everything works as it did in 10.5.7. This is great first post material.

Other required changes:

Reapply Superhai's VoodooUSBEHCI.kext patch

Replace AppleHDA.kext with whatever you use.
