iFranky
But in Vista I installed the chipset driver from Dell.com and after that I could access the Drive and eject the CD. It's a BD-device but only displayed as a CD in Vista. It's very strange. Let's see what Dell says.
iFranky
Yeah I solved this Problem by resetting the Bios to its defaults. I don't think that there's an option for this, but it cracked the problem... ot: Are you iPhone owners here watching the livestream of the Dev-Team today ^^ (:
RVE_NL
Once that is finished, visit netkas's blog post regarding PC EFI version 9 here. There is a download link that says "Bootloader". Download this and unzip it. You will see that a file called "boot" is unzipped. You need to move/copy this file to the root of your hard disk. There should already be a file named "boot" there that Chameleon installed. Overwrite this file with the netkas one. Then issue the following commands: sudo chown root:admin /boot sudo chmod 755 /boot When i try to move/copy the downloaded boot file to the root it says: The item 'boot' cannot be replaced because it is invsible. Already enabled the root account and i am logged in as root, did the following command: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE killall Finder But it keeps saying: The item 'boot' cannot be replaced because it is invsible. wingrunr21
Is it possible to get a boot CD you provide but one that alos has a Util on it as iATKOS Install DVD in safe mode where you can reinstall Darwin Bootloader by executing "darwin" once booted in at the safe prompt. I have already used the iTAKOS 5i 4 times already but there is a bug when startuptool looks for the bootefi file its looking for boot-efi instead of either bootefi or bootefi9. ALl I didi is just manullly execute that script with the correct name and it works. Anyway to make one myself a guide or do you have one available? Why do you need to keep reinstalling your bootloader? I can look into adding that functionality to my boot cd I guess but I don't see why you can't just use the Chameleon installer after using the boot CD to boot OS X. Yeah, that's fine, but my computer doesn't detect the drive. E. g. I press F12 in the BIOS, there's only the harddrive displayed. I wrote an e-mail to Dell, because I don't think it is concerned with a missing driver in OS X... Sounds like a hardware failure. I have been looking into trying to map the eject hot button on my laptop to the eject functionality like that on a real Macbook. Apparently that button may not go through the keyboard interface but instead sends events straight to the BIOS. Most Linux distros can't capture the events that button creates (ie it is not detected by X11 and can't be remapped). I'm still researching matters. joe611
Hi, I have tried various methods to get sound working on my 1330 but still no sound...I've tried using the Sonotone package, and found some other versions of HDAEnabler and sound related kexts on macgirl's dell thread that I am so confused, and sound is still not working. In my system profile this is what I have under Audio: Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID: 0x10280209 Audio ID: 12 Available Devices: Headphone: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Microphone: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Line Out: Connection: 1/8 inch Jack Microphone: Connection: Internal Digital Out: Connection: Digital Under System/Libary/Extensions, I have both HDAEnabler and AppleHDA. Thanks. Joe By the way, I have tried changing the output in sound settings to both Internal Speakers or Line out but neither worked. The sound icon is there but there is no sound coming out. wingrunr21
Sometimes you have to sleep first to get sound to work. A fix for this is currently being looked into. Does sound still not work after you sleep?

Vanguard
With great thanks to Wingrunr21, Macgirl, Superhai, pcwiz and all the others who have contributed to getting OSX running on the M1330, I thought I'd post my notes on how I used iPC 10.5.6 release to get my own M1330 running. Download the iPC 10.5.6 release and add the PPF's to it before beginning. I strongly recommend burning your disc at 1x speed as I've had no luck with any I've burned at higher rates. 1. Set ATA Mode in BIOS 2. Disable Dynamic Acceleration & Speedstep under Performance in BIOS (If you don't set both of these choices, the DVD will KP during bootup) 3. Format your drive using GUID Partition 4. Install choices: iPC OSx86 Base System Drivers --Video NVIDIA NVInject 0.2.1 Default (this didn't give QE/CI, but will fix later on) --Audio Sigmatel 9228 --Fixes & Patches PS/2 Keyboard Fix DSDT = Patch DSDT SMBIOS = SMBIOS Resolver --Apps OSx86 Tools Pacifist 5. After the installation completed and rebooted (I always select -v when booting), I checked System Profiler and discovered that I didn't have Hardware Acceleration nor QE/CI ability on the Graphics, so I then installed Macgirls M1330 kext (as recommended by Wingrunr21 earlier in this thread) using OSx86 Tools (be sure you Repair Permissions and Clear Cache when you do this). With this kext installed I then had Hardware Accelerated Video and QE/CI 6. Re-enable Speedstep & Dynamic Accel in BIOS 7. To get AHCI working I used Wingrunr21's kext's from the original post in this thread installed via OSx86 Tools as above. 8. During reboot I re-enabled AHCI in the BIOS. 9. Successfully ran Software Update to upgrade Safari, Itunes & QT NOTE: I don't have Shutdown/Restart working. Have to press & hold the power button. To my knowledge this is a common issue on the M1330. Thanks again to all who have contributed to this project on the M1330 platform!!

Hey Vanguard/Wingrunr21 and Macgirl, A couple of questions before I make the jump to 10.5.6 (I have virtually the same rig as Wingrunr21 and MacGirl). I've been using 10.5.5 (runs really well) but am considering upgrading. 1. Is Time Machine working OK? 2. Sleep working? 3. Any other quirks (other than what is known on previous versions) that I should be aware of? For example, USB high-speed working on both ports, etc? Without having to go through pages of Install Guides on MacGirl's thread, any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for the time and feedback! Without having to go through pages of Install Guides on MacGirl's thread, any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for the time and feedback! 1. I personally haven't messed with Time Machine yet as based on many of the posts that I have read across this board it will not function properly due to the issue with the Broadcom 57xx series NIC not working in Leopard yet. 2. I do not have sleep working, tho this is not an issue for me. I do not have Shutdown/Restart working either and would really like to have that more than Sleep function. 3. USB seems to work just fine on all the devices I've used. My media card reader isn't recognized, but again that hasn't been an issue for me personally. My recommendation to you is to do what I did and load Leopard on a separate hard disk (just slide your current one out and slip in another). When you setup your disk in Disk Utils, make 2 partitions: one with ~80% of the disk space, the other with ~20% (15GB should do). Once you have a bootable installation, "Restore" your bootable image onto the smaller partition. Then use the -v option to boot to the smaller partition to test things out on. If it tanks, just do the "Restore" again and start over with it. [LMK if you're unfamiliar with this process in Disk Utilities] My other recommendation is to keep a notepad near your workspace and take good notes on what you've tried and whether it was successful or not. Will help you down the road should you need to rebuild from scratch.

fiteon
Update to 10.5.6 Upgrading to 10.5.6 requires a few extra steps. You must first download and install PC EFI version 9. You must FIRST install Chameleon. See below. Then issue the following commands: sudo chown root:admin /boot sudo chmod 755 /boot Now that we have EFI updated we need to get a proper DSDT.aml file for our machine. ONLY USE THESE IF YOU HAVE AN NVIDIA CARD! If you don't have nvidia, you will have to make your own using ~pcwiz's DSDT Patcher GUI For the XPS 1330 use Superhai's: link For the XPS 1530 use Chrysaor's: link Once you have a DSDT.aml ensure that it is indeed named DSDT.aml (case-sensitive) and move it to your hard disk root. Once this is done run these commands: sudo chown root:admin /DSDT.aml sudo chmod 755 /DSDT.aml Reboot now to ensure everything is working properly. You can now download and install 10.5.6 via software update or via combo update. I followed this and tried to install software update and it froze! Can't get back into the system at this point. I am going to have to do a restore via Time Machine but have questions before I do this again: 1. How do I know 'DSDT' is working properly before I upgrade? 2. How can I check in my system if Netkas's Boot is working? When I did the first two steps and rebooted (before I ran the Combo Update), it booted fine. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks! Did you have disabler.kext or AppleCPUPowerManagement.kext in the extensions folder before you updated? If not, that is why your machine froze. Boot in single user mode with -s and delete AppleCPUPowerManagement.kext and you should be able to boot fine. If Netkas boot is working you should see Chameleon 1.0.12 at the bootloader If DSDT.aml exists in you root folder and you are using PC_EFi v9 it has to work

Shutdown/restart don't work when you have the nvidia drivers loaded. We don't know how to correct this. This must be a unique issue to the M1330, right? fiteon
No, other laptops (other brands and other Dell laptop models) also suffer with the same issue. Wingrunr21, Thanks for the 411. (during bootup) starting hibernating sleepimage has garbage hibernating failed Thanks! you probably have a sleepimage file in /private/var/vm/ which is corrupted. If you have set hibernate mode to 0 then you can delete this file. Resetting hibernate mode to 3 will recreate the file, but we do not have safe sleep (3) as yet as far as I know. I wonder why it is unique to these models though? Different everything including motherboard, video card revision and GPU, CPU etc etc..... Dell stopped making 1210 a long time back.... Wingrunr21, Thanks for the response. How is this accomplished? What file needs to be edited (or terminal command executed)? I tried searching and went to Chameleon's site, Netkas's site, which references -nowake but couldn't find info. Your help is appreciated. Thanks! TheElder
Hi all of you, I really did not want to do this my first post but I think that I do not have other choice I have over a week and 3 days trying to get work a M1330: - Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 at 2.4Ghz - 2GB of RAM - 160GB on HDD - Intel GMA X3100 0X2a02 - Dell Wireless 1395 - Bluetooth Installed WinVista normally in 1st partition, created a partition for OSX and set that one to Active. I used iATKOS v4.1i (Leopard 10.5.4) and followed the next steps: 1. Disabled Flash Cache Module under Onboard Devices. 2. Set SATA Operation to ATA. 3. SpeedStep and Dynamic Aceleration left enabled. 4. Setup the partition created going to Disk Utilities, right clic on OSX partition, erase. 5. Selected the partition for OSX to install 6. Customised settings to: Kernel 9.4.0 under Additional Patches -> Kernel, all SATA/IDE and Laptop Battery under Drivers -> System. 7. Installed and for the first boot used -x followed the wizard until login screen apears. There was a thing to recognice my keyboard, did nothing but is not important. 8. Used LeoAHCI.zip from the first post installed with OSx86 Tools, installed Chameleon 1.0.11 with the installer and check Repair Permissions, Set Extension Permissions and Clear Extension cache at OSx86 Tools and ran the process. 9. Rebooted, set SATA Operation to AHCI and Flash Cache Module enabled. 10. Booted again with -x and I used the Dell Laptops Post-Installer v1.3 to install the X3100, Dell Wireless 1395, Sigmatel 9228. Ran again Repair Permissions, Set Extension Permissions and Clear Extension cache with OSx86 Tool. 11. Rebooted and well, here comes my trouble Sometimes I can get the full res (1280x800) working and the sound working... but I could say that for every 100 times I try, 3 get working and if that is not enough, just the first time the sound works oh, and forgot. When it boots normaly, I do not reach the login screen, just login without asking anything. What does the most is just freezes at the apple gray screen. With -x I can use the OSx to try more guides. In one of my countless tryings, I use the updater to 10.5.6 and what I got was a kernel panic even with -x well, had to start from scratch once again. I also did what AJ.Allen says at post #184 from Leopard Laptops with NON-working GMA X3100 with no success, but I think that I did not understood well, I used OSx86 Tools to install in this order: 1. AppleIntelGMAX3100.kext - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+) 2. AppleIntelGMAX3100GA.plugin - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+) 3. AppleIntelGMAX3100GLDriver.bundle - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+) 4. AppleIntelGMAX3100VADriver.bundle - From Leopard Graphics Update (Kext v1.5.24+) 5. Natit.kext - From simcolor ( Kext v? ) 6. AppleIntelGMAX3100FB.kext - From simcolor ( Kext 1.5.18) Repair Permissions, extension permissions, clear cache... What happened was that it booted with 1024x768 at firts, rebooted and apple gray screen, blue screen for a second and then a black screen. Now I have downloaded the iPC 10.5.6 following the Vanguard's instrucctions up here and just gain a Kernel Panic while booting from the DVD Some one could help me with this? Vanguard
It sounds like you're going through some of the same struggles that I too have had, but don't despair. I think the issue causing your Kernel Panic (KP) is that you haven't disabled Dynamic Acceleration & Speedstep under Performance in BIOS. Also, be sure you've set the hard drive mode to ATA and not AHCI until you get the LeoAHCI kexts installed that Wingrunr21 provided.

When such things happen it is more useful to boot with -v which shows what is going wrong and where it is getting stuck. Also -s is a useful option as it lets you boot in single user mode and check if it a kernel issue or an extension issue. I also did what AJ.Allen says at post #184 from Leopard Laptops with NON-working GMA X3100 with no success, but I think that I did not understood well, I used OSx86 Tools to install in this order:1. Did you do a combo update from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6? If so that is not advisable. If you install 10.5.4 then update to 10.5.5 first following the necessary procedure. Then make sure you have the DSDT.aml file and update to 10.5.6. You will also need the Disable.kext or else your update will kp. It is best to have both the Disabler.kext and the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext before updating from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6. You have to delete the AICPM kext later. If you want the combo graphincs update from 10.5.5 check here (the topmost link): http://scottdangel.com/blog/?page_id=20 The mirror gives a faster download (http://www.filedropper.com/9f23installer_1) If DVD is giving KP, then make sure you are erasing your drive before reinstalling and make sure you have written the DVD really really slowly..
