Daft_Punk
Well, it seems that already the 9800 GX2 is dropping in price due to the new NVIDIA GTX 260 and 280. Newegg has these dual-GPU monsters at very affordable prices. A few links to those who are interested: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814130338 (eVGA) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150284 (XFX) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814133231 (PNY Electronics) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814127337 (MSI technologies) And of course, a guide to getting the 9800 GX2 working 100% in Mac OS X Leopard (maybe Tiger?) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=110366 Brought to you by Azamic. Thanks Azamic for the great work and contribution to the OSx86 Community. All resolutions should work as well as Quartz Extreme and Core Image. I'm not sure if it uses both GPUs though. However, it wouldn't really matter because 1 GPU on a 9800 GX2 is plenty enough. If you need both GPUs, then your crazy. Not many games for Mac or applications for that matter would use dual GPUs. You must have 10.5.3 to get the 9800 GX2 working in Leopard, and you may need a nForce chipset (650i, 680i, 690i, 750i, 780i, 790i, etc.) Dual GPUs may work according to Azamic: SUCCESS!!!! I can see 512MB on each of my 9800GX2 cores!!! The best part, Leopard recognizes my cards as GeForce 9800 GX2 and its QE/CI enabled!!! So in short, my 9800 GX2 has no shortfalls on Leopard now. The problem as I mentioned earlier was due to the usage of older kexts. I have uploaded the kexts working on my system (CAUTION! only compatible with 9800GX2) here. Edit: Do not forget to fix permissions! I would suggest to most people to use the iATKOS 10.5.4 (Intel Only) for Intel users with the 9800 GX2. vbetts
They've been around $300 ever since they dropped prices around the 9 series. But very good deal for a set of sli cards. Daft_Punk
lol, just noticed the eVGA one says "50 per customer" who would even buy 1/5 that many? abscheele
damn I just ordered my XFX 9800 GTX black edition for $230 for $55 more I could have gotten a 9800 GX2, should I sell the 9800 GTX and buy a GX2? edit: screw it, doesn't seem to be working with intel boards, and the 9800 GTX will be enough anyway Alec Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/119651-nvidias-geforce-9800-gx2-is-dropping-in-price-big-time/#findComment-847912 Share on other sites
vbetts
Eh? Never heard that the gx2 has issues with the intel boards. The 7900 champ gx2 would only run on the 680i I know. vbetts
OsX doesn't have sli or crossfire really, so for OSX, it would be a big waste. There was some topic here where Osx86 saw both the 9800s, but only performed as one 9800, forget where it was at though.
