jrrjrr
If you look in the decrypted folder from Maxxuss' 2006-001 patch, the only file he replaces is "loginwindow". So that one surely needs to be replaced if you do the 2006-002 update. The rest of 2006-002 is files that werer already modified in 2006-001 and didn't need patching then, so I don't think they need patching now. With the exception of "CoreTypes". That one is only in the 2006-002 update, so I don't know if it needs patching or not. For what it is worth, I ran the full 2006-002 update, and just copied back my old "loginwindow", and I don't seem to be having any problems 2 or 3 hours later still. autoy
Nice to hear it works fine, however it seems a small update and not as critical as the previous. xiberia
yup, everything works fine after update. One thing though - use the actual pkg to update it (replacing loginwindow after), otherwise the security update will keep showing up in your Software Update. (i used Pacifist to install originally, but the update kept showing up, so i had to use the installer to get rid of it) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11962-security-update-2006-002-mac-os-x-1045-client-intel/#findComment-75198 Share on other sites

xiberia
you don't need a new Maxxuss pkg. update 2006-02 also contains 2006-01, which Maxxuss has already patched. Loginwindow.app hasn't changed (its still the 2006-01 version), so you can use Maxxuss 2006-01 patch to fix it. domino
Does anyone know if Maxxuss Patch Solution v1.0a for Security Update 2006-001 will work for 10.4.4 or can we backup and re-use the original loginwindow from 10.4.4? domino
Thanks for the info. yea, I was aware of that. I am willing to live with loginwindow based on 10.4.4, in exchange for "my" massive mouse artifact problem with 10.4.5. I just didn't want anything else to break. MacFixIt also pointed out that "Front Row has been disabled for unsupported Macs" after this update. Those having problems with FR might want to start a new thread about this issue. As for my FR, it still works. If FR is in fact disabled on this update, there will be many upset Mac users. domino
Updating my 10.4.4 using this update and replacing the loginwindow file with 10.4.4 broke my install. I can only get up to the point when the GUI tried to log in. I assume that loginwindow.app is broken at this point since the update was intended for 10.4.5 only. I did image before the update , so no harm no foul... It boots from usb and helped me more than one time for trouble shooting. Click on the update that you don't want to see, click on the Update menu, then click Ignore Update. You won't be prompted for that one again. domino
Mabe it's just some wrong permissions. For this I have a 10.4.3 system on a spare 8 GB hard drive. It boots from usb and helped me more than one time for trouble shooting. No it wasn't a perm problem. I updated, sudo copied the patched file to the correct location, chmoded, chowned, corrected permission using Disk Util. After restart I could not log in the gui. I elected not to use the image to restore. I figured I had the chance to use Synchronize! Pro X and see if it does the job via vmware 10.4.4 installation. I had a copy of 10.4.4 on a spare drive and used the app to diff the files from drive 2 to drive 1. It only copied 75mb from drive 2 to drive 1 and rebooted. All is working as it should, minus the update. I highly recommend Synchronize! Pro X as it did a fine job with restoring. axept
Ok . Thanks Riffer ,it worked this time. But left me without Mail. iChat and Safari crashed. So i´ve binned them all ,and using now adium ,camino and thunderbirth! Mail and iChat appeared only with an A (applications) icon.It seems they lost the Path.Or the exe. ? I don´t need them anyway. xiberia
the updates are security updates for Safari, Mail, iChat and php, ALL of which are useful to non-real owners. Infact, us non-real owners need all the updates we can get. I don't recommend NOT doing it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11962-security-update-2006-002-mac-os-x-1045-client-intel/#findComment-75629 Share on other sites
domino
Before binning anything, archive the app that will be replaced. Most updates will only update the files contained inside the *.app directory. I don't recommend not doing this either. Riffer
the only problem is with loginwindow again because of the encription so just do #sudo cp -R /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app ~/Desktop/ then install and do not reboot then do #sudo cp -R ~/Desktop/loginwindow.app /System/Library/CoreServices/ reboot and repair permissions Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11962-security-update-2006-002-mac-os-x-1045-client-intel/#findComment-75791 Share on other sites
domino
Those just joining/reading this thread, do not attempt to update/replace the loginwindow if you are still running 10.4.4.
