Hi gang,

I was wondering if you had any recommendations for a motherboard to get.

I was thinking along the lines of Gigabyte, specifically GA-EP35-DSL or DSR or a DSP or DS4?

Or something along the linse of ASUS? Thanks :thumbsup_anim:

Oh yea I'm working with an Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 :)

I used only Gigabyte Mainboards so far but I can recommend them 100%.

My first board was the GA-P35-DS4 and now I use the GA-EP45-DQ6- you can take a look at my thread

I could also test a GA-P35-DS3.

All 3 boards work without any hazzle using the fast and simple installation method described by LS8 (link in the thread above).

Link fixed

Gigabyte boards are good, and they are pretty good overclockers too.

I've got a GA-P35-S3G, and my rig is running super nice - vanilla all the way.

In a nutshell, can't go wrong with a Gigabyte.

I agree with Adam, here.

I just did an Vanilla install from Retail DVD on a GA-P35-S3G. Easy and works great, except for the built-in audio (didn't really try, as I use a USB audio interface anyway). I chose this board since it has one PCI Express and 5 PCI slots - I was helping a friend who uses two Digidesign Protools cards and two UAD-1 cards. Think about it, once you put in a PCI-Express graphics card... none of the computers that Apple sells has 4-or-more available expansion slots! He wanted to stay with actual Apple hardware, but the need to preserve his investment in audio boards forced him into OSX86-land. His four cards (and a Firewire card) fit very nicely, and are much cooler than they were in his G4.

Regarding the Gigabit LAN... Adam, what is the "rtl.r1000nic.kext" (or where did you get it) which you mention in your sig? I used the 2.0 driver from the Realtek site, worked fine. But I'm always looking to improve things.

My previous build was on a Gigabyte board too, a GA-G33M-DS2R... that one's a dream. It's still available a few places, but no longer shipping. I wouldn't recommend ECS boards, I did two builds on them... took a long time since there's a lot less board-specific info on the forums, for that brand.

BTW: My daily-use machines are an iMac & a MBP. Apple hardware is great, it's just a bit pricey!
