alex8787
Hi!! I just bought an HTC shift and would love to have MacOS X on my htc shift I have not explored yet if it is possible or what are all the limitations or if it is feasible or not; so I am still in the exploring the possibilities process. Someone told me that I need a double-layer DVD drive for the installation, and think that maybe apple's MacBook Air SuperDrive might work. This external drive seems only to work if present at boot, and NOT AFTER the machine has been boot.... This is a far as I have reach by now. I wish you luck, and please, if you have already accomplished something, please let me know!!! Thanks a million!!!! kpitstupidsimple
You would only need a dual-layer drive for a retail dvd. The shift won't be able to to run vanilla kernel, as the processor is SSE2. Kalyway/Leo4All/iATKOS would all fit on a single layer dvd. The Shift also has the Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset, which is known to have problems with leopard. It may be fixed now, but I know there were problems in the past. My suggestion is to try it out! Try one of the patched dvds (I'd suggest Leo4all v2, because I know it supports sse2) and see how it goes! Reign Of Terror
you dont need a dual-layer drive to burn/read the install DVD. iAtkos v4 is only 2.6 GB, Kalyway is 3.6 GB, a normal DVD can hold up to 4.7 GB. they all fit fine on a single-layer DVD. honestly, looking at the full specs of this thing. it seems as though it would be entirely possible to install OSX on it. its got an intel processor, 945 integrated graphics, the only thing you may have a problem with is a sound driver. but other than that, you may actually be able to run it. alex8787
Hi! Thanks for your answers and sorry for my late thanks... Leo4allv3Final, in its purest form, does not work, so i am going to try to patch it with a Chameleon patch, with the patch-o-matic. They say there is a EFI problem or boot or something for some machines with this version of Leo. I haven't had the chance to use the Jas version, it will take many days from piratebay.org, but I look forward to it. I am not a registered user of the demonoid.com torrent site which would be much faster apparently, and I don't know nobody to request an invitation to it. I have used the Vista OS X, which makes me very comfortable as a Mac user with Vista. Sometimes I even forget I am on a PC!!! Any suggestion would be mostly welcome!! Cheers and thanks a Million!!!! alex8787
Hi. I still wondering on the possibilities... With Kalyway 10.5.2 it boots into the clouds, but the clouds are all gray, the cursor is gray, everything is gray. I choose the first option, English, but the letter where actually quite unreadable. I then have to click, for the menu to appear, but I choose any option (including Disk Utilities), and I get the gray beach ball spinning for ever.... I think I have a problem with the graphics card that just support under the ?video 640x480x8 640x480x16 but no 32 bit!!! Please help!!! alex8787
Hi! thank you very much for helping. HTC Shift might be small, but very stubborn. I tried to force the video, but no avail. It is slow, but, really hangs after choosing any menu, or agreeing to the instalation disclaimer. Still I am very happy with the progress, since with the Leo4allv3 it never got to the clouds.. I loved to see them... even if they are gray for the HTC... I hope to catch the colours someday... Thanks a million!! alex8787
Apparently with the Jas 10.4.8 intel amd +p1 +p2 worked with: power managment set to be installed and Intel and 950 intel graphics, but all installed in black and white and then restarted then blue screen, but when connected to the external, but then worked well... BUT: because it was in a dual boot internal, it damaged and could not get to boot, even after restoring a total system backup copy, I am now a little afraid... At the end I booted with the DVD on -s mode and fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 then the f 1 then VERY important the letter 'u' for update, before the 'w' for writting and then it failed, but allowed it to be repaired with a Vistal Repair DVD. As you can, big cats can sometimes damage small PCs.... So now I am looking for cage for the cats... VMplayer, as to contain, and run from windows, maybe this way I am more confident that no damage would be made. Still I am afraid of the speed impact in the memory limits of the Shift. I will have to let the cat loose someday... PLEASE help!!: - Did someone have driver for Shift wireless? Its a Marvell sd8686 Wiress LAN SDIO Adapter... - Not even ethernet, since it is a USB ethernet. Any ideas for this too? -There was no touchscreen... Any idea about that driver? - The 800x480 screen need a special driver for its 1024x600 switch, since the screen only have 800x480 pixels.. any ideas on this subject? I have come to realize the importance of being networked or internet after having no comunication, plus the lack of screen, plus the killing of the other partition... I wish to continue after the scarry moments have fadded... Thanks a million for any suggestions!!! alex8787
Half, but 100% working Solution to Dual boot. Hi! Apparently HTC cannot dual boot Vista and MacOS X. Chain0 errors, or the other methods make it crash at the first gray apple glance. Solution, install MacOs X on a 8gb USB key and start from there, and at the prompt write: rd=disk0s2 So it continues booting from the HD, and then eject the USB drive from the Finder. Remember to get the prompt, ad the Timeout part in the boot.plist from the USB key. Now, I noticed it does not wake up from sleeping. I tried it to make use of the Write In HD hibernation, but the HTC doesn't want to wake up from any sleep. Any suggestions? Thanks for all Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114541-os-x-on-a-htc-shift/#findComment-883644 Share on other sites
