hey, i am wondering if you can ghost your drive. i am getting boot error for the usb thumb drive. dont know what to do and i would also need the drivers for the D945GCLF2. you can message me privately.

To answer my own question ....

Got the D945GCLF2 and did an install of 10.5.0 using the Boot132 method. Updated to 10.5.5 using software update.

Current status:

graphics working (no tearing) with full resolution change etc after using a kext found here on the forum

sleep (and wakeup from sleep) working

no USB problems, works fine out of the box

Ethernet seems to work for Internet connection but I can't find my AppleTalk printer (maybe AppleTalk is not working ... do I need IONetworkingFamily) ???

Time Machine: Haven't tried yet. Maybe it needs a fix.

SOUND: this is the big problem... I can get output using a patched AppleAzalia.kext. but not using AppleHDA. Has anyone tried patching AppleHDA for this board (with ALC662 sound) using the method described here (and not AppleHDAPatcher.app): http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=127227 ???

I'm very busy at the moment but I'll try to assemble all the .kexts I used and create a custom boot132-iso for this board. When done I'll post it here.

I won't ghost my drive, lacking time and free disk space. Sorry.

I used the boot-132 method using a CD, haven't tried with a USB stick but I know that that wouldn't work with the same

boot132 images.

For those who have the D945GCLF2 board (this may apply to the single-core board D945GCLF as well)... I have a few issues with USB. These are not hackintosh-specific as they occur before booting:

1) The system won't get to the boot prompt (or even to the point where I can enter the BIOS setup) if my webcam (Creative Optia AF) is plugged into any of the USB ports.

I disabled booting from USB devices (thinking that somehow the BIOS might mistake the camera for a mass storage device) and I disabled USB legacy support in the BIOS. None of these changes helped.

2) How can I enable USB keyboards to work before the operating system has booted. I installed the system using a PS2 keyboard but now I am using one of the new slimline USB keyboards from Apple. With the Apple USB keyboard I can't enter the bios and I can't type anything at the Darwin bootloader. I tried enabling/disabling USB legacy support in the BIOS but no luck either. Does anyone use a USB keyboard with one of these boards ?

I have a D945GCLF2 and I'm using an old usb keyboard from a G4 Powermac. If I remember correctly, mine worked in the bios before I ever installed an OS and I'm positive I use it before the OS loads. I'll check and see what version my bios is when I get home. It's possible that you might be able to update the bios and get it working. I have a new slimline usb keyboard from my mac at work, I'll try to remember to take it home with me today and see if it works with my D945GCLF2 as well as my old usb keyboard.

Hi Folks,

I stumbled upon this stuff by accident really. I bought a D945GCLF for a completely different project I'm working on (a NAS, based on this design and FreeNAS), and was pleasantly surprised to find that this board so easily makes a Hackintosh. I tried to setup an OSx86 machine several months ago, but couldn't find any cheap hardware where it just worked..(And I admit that I was one of those people who was interested in just getting a cheap Mac... This was before I replaced my aging G4 Tower with an iMac!)

Anyway, my board arrives on Monday( :D ) and I'll be giving this a shot before I go on to do my NAS project. I'll report back when I get done.

Thanks to everyone who's made the effort on this. I'm excited about my second (and hopefully more successful ) attempt at putting OS X on generic hardware

That is interesting. Maybe it also depends what type of USB keyboard one is using rather than just whether it is USB or PS2. In fact, I have the same problem on my other Hackintosh which is based on the now slightly outdated intel d945gkntlr board (as in the original bofor's box thread). Never occured to me to try a different USB keyboard (but I don't have one anyway). If you could test with the slimline keyboard that would be awesome.

Still no progress on the issue where the webcam blocks the boot process either. Has anyone tried booting with their webcam attached ?

I do think I have the latest Bios version for this board but I'll check.

I managed to narrow the problem down somewhat:

- both issues are not caused by an outdated BIOS (I just updated to the latest version).

- when I disable the USB ports in the BIOS, I can boot with the Creative Optia camera attached. Obviously that's only good for diagnostics as this machine isn't very useful without USB ports

- when I attach a somewhat older Phillips ToUCam, the machine boots up without a problem.

- when I attach the Creative Optia AF to my other computer it also blocks the boot process.

So, in summary the webcam issue is not specific to the D945GCLF2 board. Sorry for the distraction.

FYI if you look on ebay. There is a guy that sells this motherboard/cpu with memory and a much better case for cheap. All you need is the Optical Drive and Hard Drive. Just search for the mobo and seller is auction503.

he had it with 1GB of RAM for $150 + shipping

and with 2GB of RAM for $170.

I will likely order it next week and then get a optical drive and hard drive from newegg.

No, I just got it a few months ago. As for them replacing the iMacs, I would be pretty surprised. They just refreshed the line back in Feb or Mar. Beyond that, I love my iMac. It's awesome.

My first attempt to get my 945GCLF up and going failed. I wrestled with it for an hour or so, but without any luck.

I was getting the (I gather) common problem of not finding a plist file. I was booting the DVD off a PATA and trying to install onto a PATA. I don't have any SATA stuff! I'm assuming that that was the problem. I did get the machine to boot a couple of times, but I never got it to see any of the drives I tried. I assume that's the problem. I'm going to see if I can't get a SATA drive on the cheap and try again.

I'm gathering that PATA isn't a good way to go for OSx86. Is that the case with just this board, or in general?

I don't understand what a tutorial is ?

This board from the start powers up.

Then I leave ALL BIOS options at default ?

When I load my disc and select "cutomize" ?

What do I leave check/uncheck ?

I have no USB or Audio.

I am greatful for this forum and it's members and bought this board on the "out of the box advice" yet there's no step by step.

The DVD has a few choices on it ?

Can someone put together a complete tutorial ?

Pluggulp,

Just tried the slimline apple usb keyboard and it doesn't work to get into the bios or when I'm trying to type when using the boot disk. Once I actually get into OSX it works fine. Pretty crazy, you'd think one apple keyboard would be as good as the next. I'm using a black apple pro usb keyboard from an old G4 (I think it was sold with the Digital Audio and maybe Quicksilver G4, looks like the model number is M7803) and I have no problems using it at anytime.

If your having the problem with the system hanging on reboot, you might try the file that prystar provides, it's available at:

http://store.psystar.com/opensource/openhaltrestart

Seemed to work for me :)

Pluggulp,

Would you mind adding this .kext to your boot-132 image before you release it (assuming your having the reboot problem after using the boot-132 method, looks like the prystar license allows for distribution as long as you include their license with it)

I use a 160GB old WD IDE HDD and an IDE BenQ DVD writer in my Hackintosh so PATA isn't the issue.

Ok, so I built my unit today. I got the Intel board D945GCLF2, SATA drives, ASUS WL-138G v2, Zoom Bluetooth USB adapter.

I used a retail disk of Leopard 10.5.4, booting it using Boot-123 and the install went smoothly. I did the Software Update to 10.5.5, my Wifi and Bluetooth work without any added drivers and I added the graphics kext and I have full 1920x1200 now. I haven't tried LAN or Audio yet, but so far so good.

One problem I am noticing is that the southbridge on this motherboard is overheating, causing things like my keyboard and HDD to become unresponsive. Gets too hot to touch in just a few minutes.

I'll probably add a case fan tomorrow and go to microcenter and hope they have some small heatsinks I can thermal appoxy on.

Thanks for trying that out nathan. I guess I won't waste any more time trying different BIOS settings then ...

So it seems that the slimline keyboard doesn't behave like a stock standard USB keyboard. I should have gotten suspicious when I installed it the first time and Leopard Software Update wanted update the firmware on the keyboard. These keyboards are getting a tad to smart if they have reprogrammable firmware :(

Hi nathun,

great. need to try this out later tonight. Shutdown works on my box, but restart doesn't.

Still having a few issues with creating a boot-132 image, I can't get everything to work. I've got a version of AppleHDA.kext which (together with HDAEnabler) gives me Sound output (no input, no microphone) when I place it in the /System/Library/Extensions folder. However, when I place these .kexts on the boot-132 CD there's not even sound output. I saw a few threads about getting AppleHDA to work with Boot132 but they were not specific to the ALC662 (heck, there isn't even a fully working AppleHDA for this motherboard) and I didn't have the time to get into the details yet.

For those experiencing "sleep" problems after installing with Kalyway:

I installed using the boot-132 method and a Retail DVD. Sleep worked fine until I installed the RealtekR1000.kext which made my computer crash on wakeup from sleep. Apparently, Kalyway comes with the DaemoneES RealtekR1000.kext (hidden in IONetworkingFamily) so maybe removing it may fix your sleep issues.

BTW, I do have working ethernet without the RealtekR1000.kext driver, there are just some minor issues with Bonjour (which I don't need on this machine) and AppleTalk using the driver that comes on the Apple retail DVD.

There is an updated RealtekR1000.kext on the Psystar website which claims to fix sleep issues but no success here.

Just tested this. Indeed, this solves the restart problem. Maybe the original poster or one of the moderators can modify the original post to include this information.

I'm up to 10.5.5 on my D945GCLF2 board using this method:

http://mysticus.titanous.com/update.html

I did discover something (that was new to me at least). Sometimes if you've installed kext files and you use a boot disk to select the partition, instead of setting the partition active and booting strait to the partition, the kext files may not load correctly. For instance, I used the video patches at the beginning of this thread, but if I use the boot disk I can't get video working right, but when I set the partition active and boot, then video work correctly.

Looks good. I'm gonna test it. I'm running 10.5.4 right now so I'm gonna have to pop back in the Kalyway 10.5.2 disc and downgrade then try to install 10.5.5. I'll post back with my result in about an hour.

EDIT: Yup, this is probably the easiest way to get to 10.5.5. Just install Kalyway 10.5.2 as normal. Once at the desktop, install "Prepare for Combo Update.pkg" then install the OS X 10.5.5 Combo Update, then install "Post Combo Update Patches.mpkg".

I selected the following

Kernel: 9.4.0 StageXNU Kernel

Chipset: Just Restore my Chipset Drivers

Video: Intel, GMA 950 and X3100, 950 Desktop

Audio: Just Restore Audio

Network: Just Restore Network

System Functions: Apple ACPI

Works like a charm. No need to update to 10.5.3, then 10.5.4 only to have to update once more to 10.5.5.

TrippinBimmer, you should have picked up the D945GCLF2. Works just as well as the the D945GCLF if not better. And why not get a SATA DVD writer instead of an IDE. It will save you trouble when you build as you wont have to use a bulky ribbon cable.

EDIT: I'm confused. Why did you edit the parts? Those are totally different parts than before.
