Killroy™
I got this thing running pretty smoothly on my 22" at 1900x1200 but I really want to try my 30" (2560x1600) but I need a dual-link DVI card for that. Is there any dual-link DVI PCI video card (ATI or NVidia) that will run on Leopard that I can put on the PCI slot?

The power supply wattage doesn't matter unless it's too low. All the rating means is what you can draw... the board will only draw what it needs... and NO do not update to 10.5.5 without special care - look for the netkas method, I think that works... Not sure you'll get it to work with osX86. I found easier instructions to update to 10.5.5. Haven't tested them yet, but I believe the are the same as netkas' method. They are just written in plain english. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=911521
gonyr
Posting now from the first computer I've ever built! Followed the instructions in the original post of this thread, but using the dual-core d945gclf2 board. Everything seems to be working except: 1) restart (no big deal) 2) mic (don't have one) 3) onboard ethernet (not sure what the deal is, but I have a wireless card installed, so I don't care) I updated kalyway 10.5.2 to kalyway 10.5.3, then apple update to 10.5.4. No problems at all. It took about an hour to put the computer together, mostly because of trouble getting my hands to fit in the case properly. Then, about another hour to do the installation and updates. To the earlier poster who had troubles with the IDE optical drive opening and closing - I think I'm having a similar problem. I'm pretty sure that it's just the tight fit in the case causing the eject button to be pushed almost continuously. I can usually get it to stop by putting some pressure on the corners of the case. I'm still working on adjusting its position a bit to try and fix the problem.

For the restart issue try this: Downloading this patch (USB Fixes 2 in 1) seemed to do the trick: http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=f388fb4...2db6fb9a8902bda Also the open and close of the drive was due to the sleep issue....i fixed it with a SATA drive. Just an FYI, a great FREE "office" product for this machine is OpenOffice 3.0 that was just released yesterday. Zildjian26
I've followed through this thread with my D945GCLF: Kalway 10.5.2 -> Kalway 10.5.3 update (but I chose vanilla kernel) -> straight install of 10.5.4 from Apple -> and then 10.5.5 via the guide here, and ended up with 10.5.5 that was perfect except for video. Leaving the GMA950 extensions installed by 10.5.5 I had CI/QE but resolution was stuck at 1024x768 and screen sharing (taking control of the Hackintosh's screen) resulted in a kernel panic on the Hackintosh. I tried evilduck's GMA950 package as well and that didn't work either. I found this post here by Slinger2G with a custom AppleIntelIntegratedFrameBuffer.kext which I copied over the one from 10.5.5, leaving all other GMA950 related 10.5.5 files intact, and voila, everything works: CI/QE, resolution change, and screen sharing. File from Slinger2G's post is attached here for convenience, all credit goes to Sling though. Hopefully this will help someone else that was stuck the same way I was. Zildjian26
Forgot to ask in my previous post: does anyone know of any benchmarks comparing the D945GCLF to the D945GCLF2? I wonder if it's worth upgrading my single core Atom to the new dual core?
pluggulp
Has anyone installed using the Boot132 method and vanilla kernel on a D945GCLF2 with Atom 330 ? (skimmed the whole thread but couldn't find anything ... might have missed it) If so, what kexts did you add to the Boot132 iso ? (I assume the GMA950 fix ... but anything else?) Also, with the Boot132 method Apple Software Update should work. I have a 10.5.0 retail copy, so I should be able to use that to install and then use Software Update to bring it to 10.5.5. right ? Building this box for the parents-in-law, so I need somehting where they can safely click on "Update Now" when Apple Software updater finds new packages. maccompaq
Just wondering if the Atom dual core system gives artifacts like the single core. Also wondering why many are updating to 10.5.4. I am at 10.5.2 and do not see a need to upgrade.
evilduck
Just wondering if the Atom dual core system gives artifacts like the single core. Also wondering why many are updating to 10.5.4. I am at 10.5.2 and do not see a need to upgrade. The artifacts are from the graphics drivers. There shouldn't be a difference (although, artifacts seem completely random to me, I don't know what UI event causes them). System updates generally patch security holes and optimize things, some times they add features. Look through Apple's update descriptions if you think you need or want it. I linked Apple's direct download page a few posts back, you can read the info there. I updated to 10.5.5 because I can, and it gets rid of items in the Software Update menu, but most people update to 10.5.4 because there's no reason not to. It's easy peasy if you follow the instructions. (use kalyway's 10.5.3 updater, then just grab Apple's 10.5.4 delta update)

z00100
Hey guys, The Intel Atom 330 board was my first step in the Hackintosh world. I wet my feet with that board. I am happy I did because almost everything worked out of the box perfectly. But yesterday I just couldn't stand the speed of the Atom, it was too slow for my needs. Although I don't use programs such as Photoshop, but I am a heavy net user and have around 50 tabs open in Firefox. Plus I noticed that copying files over the network (gigabit) was slow because of the processor. Anyway, see my signature to find out what I got. I am extremely happy with the hardware choices I made and this is by far the fastest OS X computer I have ever used.
morndry
Put together the duel-core atom board and loaded msiwindOSx86.iso, ran the graphics kexts from the tutorial in the first post, then ran the USB Fixes 2 in 1. As of last night everything, except for the microphone input, was working great!

bibendum
Because of the slowness of the PCI bus, there was code in the OS specifically excluding PCI gfx cards from Quartz Extreme... There used to be some patches (PCI Extreme) around to enable QE on pci Gfx cards, but I don't know if they'd been tried with Leopard or with a Hackintosh for that matter... nathun
Just got my D945GCLF2 up and running with JAS 10.5.4. No audio, but I don't appear to have the lost internet after sleep issue, the restart issue [update: looks like I spoke too soon on this one, I do have a problem restarting], or the problem recognizing usb without reboot. I did have to make the partition active to get it to boot to the HD and used the video fix on the first page. So far I'm really impressed. I loaded final cut just for giggles and it performs a lot better than I would have thought. I've got a friend that does a lot of video work that's thinking of getting one of these as a "loaner" machine. He has a couple kids he hires to help him with some simple stuff in FCP and the idea of having a machine that's practically a throw away machine is a lot more appealing than loaning them a $3000 17" macbook pro. My eventual goal is to try to do vanilla install with boot 132. I think I'm going to try the 10.5.5 update first and see if I can get the audio working. Any suggestions for getting the audio working (I know it's been asked a million times)?
nathun
Actually I just did a fresh install with JAS 10.5.4 (I toasted my first one trying to go to 10.5.5) and this time after I rebooted I noticed the video looked better and I hadn't installed the graphics fix yet. I checked more info under "about this mac" and it looks like QE is suppored, Core image says hardware accelerated! Maybe the graphics fix isn't necessary with this method! It's a little weird because it definitely wasn't working right when it first booted, all I did was set the partition to active and rebooted and it started working. Update:QE and CI are still working, the odd thing is I have another partition and I used carbon copy cloner to copy the entire image. Whenever I boot to the 2nd partition QE and CI don't work...seems weird that there would be any difference since it's an exact copy.
pluggulp
Has anyone installed using the Boot132 method and vanilla kernel on a D945GCLF2 with Atom 330 ? (skimmed the whole thread but couldn't find anything ... might have missed it) To answer my own question .... Got the D945GCLF2 and did an install of 10.5.0 using the Boot132 method. Updated to 10.5.5 using software update. Current status: graphics working (no tearing) with full resolution change etc after using a kext found here on the forum sleep (and wakeup from sleep) working no USB problems, works fine out of the box Ethernet seems to work for Internet connection but I can't find my AppleTalk printer (maybe AppleTalk is not working ... do I need IONetworkingFamily) ??? Time Machine: Haven't tried yet. Maybe it needs a fix. SOUND: this is the big problem... I can get output using a patched AppleAzalia.kext. but not using AppleHDA. Has anyone tried patching AppleHDA for this board (with ALC662 sound) using the method described here (and not AppleHDAPatcher.app): http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=127227 ??? I'm very busy at the moment but I'll try to assemble all the .kexts I used and create a custom boot132-iso for this board. When done I'll post it here.
