Updated straight from software update after timemachine backup.

Previous Kalyway 10.5.3

no kext or any mods were necesarry.

Everything works just like it did before.

Come to think of it, this was by far the easiest update ever...hmm maybe Apple snuck something into it to blow the brains out of my hackintosh when I'm not watching...

I updated my Hackbook today and it worked like a charm. No KP and it even fixed my usb issues. Shutdown remains broken tho. Overall, nothing was broken after the online update. So all HP Pavillion DV9650us owners with 10.5.3 (using JaS combo), go ahead and update online. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!

I am installing iATKOS 1.0i R2, I have selected darwin efi aswell as bootloader & the stock kernel, do I have to install kalyway's or JAS' combo update before I can update to this version?

With the stock kernel I selected does this me I have vanilla kernel?

@ carbon,

Can you tell me where you got the kernel installer from?

Installed 10.5.4 successfully thru SoftwareUpdate, but lost the ability to make a bootable clone ;)

Previously I was able to use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a working clone to an other HD, from 1st partition to the 1st partition of the target disk – now I just get the prompt(?) after the Asus splash screen when I select the clone after pressing F8...

(I'm a long time Mac user, so all the tweaking around BIOS et cetera has been a learning experience – but still a bit baffled with some things, so my terminology might be bit off – sorry)

Im not looking for help (think im happy with 10.5.2 atm) but for information sharings sake...

I tried to update (with software update) using the combo and it hung at 43%. so after a fresh install I tried netkas method to go to 10.5.3 and it also hung at 43%...

might have something to do with my wifi patch but i really have no idea

CPU - core2 E6850

MB - DS4

Kernal - Vanilla 9.22

It completely hosed my system every time I tried it. I tried using Software Update and downloading the ComboUpdate from Apple. Running Kalyway 10.5.2 with Vanilla kernel and NVInject. Every time it gets to about 30% and then panics. I installed Leo4Allv3 and tried again. Same thing... KP at about 30%. Oh, I also tried booting with -X so that minimal drivers were loaded. Same thing. I guess it's some hardware issue with my computer.

In the short time using my Hack Pro box, I have really come to appreciate the Mac OS and rather than try and fight this battle any more, after I get back from my Las Vegas vacation I'm going to guy a 24" iMac, but I'll be keeping my Hackbook. Maybe this is the reason why Apple isn't doing anything about this group or even Psystar, figuring that at least some people will make the jump to their hardware, like me.

In just a few months time with the "Mac" I have been able to take pictures, import them to iPhoto, create a Photobook, make a DVD using the same pictures with a Ken Burns effect and background music, and then using iSquint, copy that same movie to my Blackberry. Almost seamlessly, and relatively easily.

any one had this problem? (cant update even after update released - does not show up in Software update?)pictur59.jpgand manual update fails:pictur61.jpg
i answer my own question:if you try developer preview stuff then you experience these kind of problems,if you installed Safari 4 developer preview, then first uninstall it (from the downloaded DMG use the Safari40PreviewUninstall.pkg)then you may install as all of these other guys (from Software update)pictur74.jpgShaybc.

Noob Warning ;)

I totally hosed my Hackintosh by trying to install from 10.5.2 to 10.5.4. Went back and did it right by reinstalling 10.5.2. Then ran the Kalyway 10.5.3 combo update and finally the 10.5.4 update from the Apple Software updater. It all went very smoothly. Big thank you for all the great information posted here.

I have the vanilla kernel and all went good with the normal software update. And of course I immediately did a time machine backup before and after (just in case).

One important side note...if you have a vista partition......this will kill the boot. You need to boot from the install dvd for vista and perform a repair installation (takes less than a min) and then you are golden.

And what if you are using grub? I don't understand why an Apple update could modify the mbr of my disk.

Btw, i still have the Vanilla 9.2.2 kernel. Can i update?

Just tried the Combo 10.5.4: it failed. I can managed to get Mac OS X to boot, not even in single user mode (-s) to restore old kext. I guess i have a problem with the kernel. Which version should it be? Can i use an older one? Thanks.

Here is my error:

Finally I found some spare time to apply the updates.

Previously:

- Installed Kalyway 10.5.2 with Vanilla kernel

- Installed needed drivers: Attansic_L1_Ethernet.zip, NVinject.kext.zip, PC_DE.keylayout.zip

- applied all previous patches

Updating was made easy on my hardware:

- Installed 1_Kalyway_UpdCombo10.5.3.pkg w/o rebooting

- Applied 2_kalyway_10.5.3_kernel.pkg while keeping my old vanilla kernel

- Rebooted and applied 'update -v' at boot prompt

- Installed MacOSXUpd10.5.4.pkg (ca. 88mb)

- Installed NVinstaller v.52.pkg, while choosing 500 for my card

uname -r
9.4.0

Hardware:

Asus P5K vanilla, latest firmware

Nvidia 8600GT 500MB

8GB Kingston DDR2 800

Intel Q6600, G0 stepping

3x 1000MB S-ATA Samsung

1x LG S-ATA burner

jMicron disabled, ICH9 IDE mode.

It rocks :)

Thx

GNU/Linux is lika wigwam. No Windows, No Gates but a strong Apache inside.

Installed 10.5.4 update through Software Update, it went about 30%, and I got the "you need to restart" screen. Restarted, gives me a list of errors with -f -v, notably:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x1BDDCC65): "Unsupported CPU\n"@/SourceCode/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-39/cstateCPU.c:637

Debugger called: <panic>

*Then a whole lot of hex errors*

BSD process name corresponding to current thread: Unknown

Mac OS Version:

Not yet set

Kernel Version:

Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar 2 00:11:08 SCT 2008; made by ToH:xnu-1228/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386

Is my system effed to the point that I'll need to reinstall now? Please help.

-Chris

if any of you have problems with graphics and you use nvinject.kext then let me know because i have a solution as you can see from the attached picture

Hi - I need your help :P

I followed your guide to update from 10.5.2 to 10.5.4 using Apple Combo Update.

I didn't restart using -v but started up normally. I felt brave I guess (there's a thin line between bravery and stupidity, I know! :D ).

After updating the system came up but with a blue screen. No mouse no nothing.

Thankfully, I backed up my system before the update, so now I'm back to 10.5.2 again.

How can I fix this problem and update safely to 10.5.4?

This is my system:

OS= Kalyway 10.5.1 (Vanilla chosen at installation) + 10.5.2 Update using Software Update

Features= EFI V8, GUID, ToH kernel (to enable Shut Down and Sleep).

CPU= E6550 2.33GHz @ 2.975GHz (425MHz x 7)

MB= GA-P35C-DS3R Rev. 2.0

RAM= 4x1GB Kingston 800MHz @ 850MHz (1:1 FSB->RAM ratio)

VGA= 8400GS PCI-E 256MB with NVInject (using Punk92's v1.9 installer)

Thanks!
