I managed to solve all problems and boot from dvd but i have not installed it yet. :)

For those who have asrock ConRoe 1333 glan with intel 945GCA2 Chipset and can't boot the dvd:

1.Download this iso http://dc79.4shared.com/download/53547099/...083428-97f7d010 and burn it to a cd(must use this iso).

2.In the bios to the folowing changes:

1.cpu configuration-No execute memory protection-enable

2.chipset-VCCM voltage-high and VDDQ voltage-high

3.ACPI-suspend to RAM-auto and ACPI HPET-enable

3.Boot the iso when darwin prompt appears put the dvd and press enter and do not enter 80 or 81 just press enter and it should boot the dvd.

Cheers guys, specs in sig with helpful urls for the setup.

Now running retail (albeit with modded kexts), running more solid than the Kaly releases which I never thought I would see!

Special thanks to Elastic for your disk image, please update the front page to the latest release which enables audio. You rock!

Hi,

It seems that everyone is making progress now, which is great news! :censored2:

I'm just curious though ... What is the difference between the Kalyway hdd installer and STLVNUB's suggestion of copying the boot and /Extra folder from boot132 to your root hard drive. I've been using STLVNUB's suggestion and it works great but I'm just curious about what Kalyway's would do? The way I see it, with either method, you can boot directly from your hdd.

Anyone? I'm kinda scared to try it first because (atm) I can't afford to lose my working system. Another reason is, Kaly's method might conflict with STLVNub's method.

Thanks

Hello, I think it best to use a USB key to do the actual booting OR have a rescue partition.

With USB key you can use it as multi-booter.Even use different initrd.img (just rename and add to Syslinux Menu)

With rescue, just clone your working system AND DON'T TOUCH IT,just use it in case of EMERGENCIES.(doh!!)

Very hard to boot from HD (yes, I found out the hard way) if you make mistake but take the above precautions and you should be OK.

Bye..

Alright. Thanks for the tip :) Btw, do you know the what's the difference between the kaly method (his installer) and yours regarding hdd booting? Are they actually the same except that kaly's method is automatic?

Cheers!

i used Kaly's chameleon Boot Fix for hard drive ... now i can boot without Elastic's CD on my total Retail installation. However i noticed that I can no longer boot from my CD/DVD Drive on startup.

My first boot drive is CD and sec is HDD.. I also changed the sec boot drive to Cd/DVD ... still no luck .. I couldn't even make the system recognize my Leopard Retail DVD ... Elastic's CD came to the rescue again !! and I was able to do a clean install after that ....

-- Kaly ... any clue about this ???

His is probably the way to go for Noobs.Does the lot.Installs bootloader, boot and Extra

Mine was just a simple way to make it work on a Chameleon Installed system, Copy boot and Extra.

Both do same thing, will use his way in my next project though.

That will be DVD Installer using Native DFE loader. No iso needed.Just DFE.

Bye..

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just use the one you taught us :2cents: Your DVD installer seems promising. If you're done with the you new project, we hope that you'll share it again :D

Newmacky: I have the P5K-V mobo and geforce 8600GT graphics card. I need Elastic's ISO to install the retail Leopard. With a geforce 6600GT VGA, I can use the generic ISO to install the retail without any problem. Presumably, the geforce 8xxx graphics card require a different set of kexts.

NVkush for video, and I cant really comment on the audio, I must have tried about 5 different methods before realising that Elastic had a new bootdisk out, after that audio worked fine.

It may well have been that something I did before using the new bootcd affected the audio, but unless I do a full reinstall I really wont know.

Things have evolved so much over the last 2 years. Can someone write a guide for noob's reflecting the new state of the art? It sounds like this latest approach, and now simplified by kaly, is really a watershed. I mean is the answer now something like...

  1. Buy Leopard DVD
  2. Download Kaly (the one above in this thread)
  3. Buy Gigabyte motherboard and Intel Core 2 duo/quad CPU
  4. Buy SATA (or IDE?) DVD drive
  5. Buy nVidia graphics card but 8800 or less (not 9600 or 280 or 260?)
  6. BIOS: Turn on (off?) AHCI
  7. Add kexts somehow...
  8. Boot Kaly
  9. Boot Retail
  10. Apply automatic updates to 10.5.4
  11. ...

I found this genius bar tutorial http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=116505 a bit more focused that I was looking for, though then again the variety of techniques is what has made this community thrive.

Try using EFIStudio to add the correct device string to your boot.plist file ... I do not use any kext to make my graphic card work ...

I got this working back a month ago. I find booting from USB works for me. The USB acts as a security key for my system.

I have two physical HDD for my system.

1x250gb IDE for a windows XP partition

1x250gb SATA for the OSX partition.

What happens is I have the boot sequence set in a way, s.t. if the USB key isn't plugged in, it'll go directly to XP else it goes to OSX, going through the BOOT-123 process. It is definitely slower to boot OSX, but I don't often reboot, so I can live with this.

Unfortunatley, I'm still not using OSX, I'm trying to find drivers for ATI HD 3450, which I haven't had much luck ;)

Somebody plz answer this question of mine! :D

there is just no reason to use a pre-patched dvd. why using a dvd packed with files needed to run os x on your computer if you can have already have these on your boot-123 cd or usb stick. why fill up your system with files you don't need anyway? :) thats the advantage of the retail dvd, you just get that what is installed on regular macs too.

Hi Leo4AllRox!!!,

I would like to add to the above comment.

The best thing about the Retail version of OSX is that you can keep up with the latest version of OS update without it messing up your system.

This is one of the best advantages, this is such a big step forward from pre-patched version. Don't get me wrong they are great, but you can't update to the latest version unless you know what you are doing or it will mess up your system.

I hope this helps your question.

Peace out
