BladeRunner
OK, the retail DVD made the difference. I was able to install OSX on my latptop and was able to put the bootloader back in and boot back into OSX. I now have two more questions: 1) Do I always need the iso disk I created to boot into osx? If not, what do I need to do to make my osx disk bootable? 2) I currently don't have wireless working, can anyone point me to some quick info? Thanks, Tim Glad to see you made progress on the OS X install. I have no idea about the wireless. There are several methods of making your OS X bootable without the pre-boot cd. The one I use, and therefore think is the best, is the one Munky provided. It places the override kext and some other information in the small 200Mb EIF partition at the beginning of your disk. I am assuming you have your drive partitioned as GUID since there was no comment about OS X refusing to install on your MBR disk Read the guide found at this link Munkys EFI partition guide. Good luck.

sayagain
I wonder if you guys could help me: Is there a "patched" version of BLESS ? I'm using an iAtkos 4.1i (10.5.4 with Vanilla 9.40), and I also tried with iDeneb v.1.3 (10.5.5 with Vanilla 9.50). I'm installing a disk encryption program, that needs to "Bless" a 32mb boot-image file. The installer runs a shell script, that runs the bless command. It fails saying its "unable to set boot device" or similar message. When I ran the Bless command manually on the image file, with the correct arguements from the installer script, only in Verbose mode of bless -- bless says that everything is successfull up until the part where it needs to set as boot. This part doesn't work. It is an EFI boot image obviously, and it may be worth noting that I tried with both Chameleon and Darwin-EFI bootloaders in stalled (from iAtkos distro). I do realize that even if you guys can help "Blessing" and setBoot'ing the 32mb boot-image, there is still a chance it won't be able to boot it properly without some patching. We'll see about that in due course, I hope! To note, this program I'm installing works great OOB on Apple Macs (Intel Based Only) and *requires* a GPT partition table. (which I have). My laptop is ThinkPad x300, and the program is from CheckPoint (licensed): PointSec for Mac 3.0 HFA1 They won't help me getting it running on NocBook... only on MacBook.. Nobita
Please help me! I cannot boot the Retail Installer. It's keep saying Unable to find driver AppleACPIPlatform.kext or error about this kext. I've use a lot of Boot132 Disk including Generic and My Custom one which has AppleACPIPlatform.kext that work for my system [in kalyway 10.5.2] I run on P5K-e MOBO. I've set my hardisk and JMicron setting to be either IDE and ACHI. It doesn't work. BTW. I didn't install from my internal DVD Drives because it can't read the DVD[keep saying EBIOS read Error : Time out] I use External USB DVD Drive instead. Can anyone tell me how can I boot it properly. What have I done wrong with my BIOS. Thanks in advance. P.S. I've try the Boot 132 Disk of P5K at DFE's Thread and It doesn't work. Panshie
Hello to all!!! I'm Martin from Argentina. I have Leo 10.5.5 on one of my drives, I have three partitions: one very little to have Boot_132 and the kexts of my system, one large with leopard and a little one at the end with iDeneb 15.5.5 in case I mess up. I have a problem with the shutdown, after a try to shutdown it appears the grey windows whit the box in the middle that says that I hae to restar the OS in five languages. The same one that appears when you chose to boot from a incorrect drive (or is identical). I have the AppleACPIPlatform.kext in the extras folder (in the extenssions.mkext I should said, I'm using slimbuild to make the initrd.dmg wich is fast and easy), is the same AppleACPIPlatform that's on my iDeneb extenssions folder so I though it should work but it seems I'm missing something. Is there some other kext that's necesary to fix the shutdown or I have to try other AppleACPIPlatform.kext? Thank you very much people and sorry for my english. I keep all the kexts modification on the boot_132 partition, I didn't toutch a kext in the extenssions folder. I want to keep it as retail as possible. Only modificate apple.boot.plist with the GFX string of my VGA (I couldn't get the apple.boot.plist on the initrd.dmg to work with slimbuild) One last thing, it takes 1-3 seconds to load the wallpaper once the blu screan appears and then 2-3seconds more to load the finder. Is this normal in the boot_132 installations on a minipartition? in Kalyway and Ideneb I don´t have this delay. Once finder is loaded is as fast as kayway or any other. Also Xbench gives me the same result (around 69-70 for may root drive, is this a good number for a Seagate 500GB 32MB on ACHI?) I don't know why it load so slowly. Salute! Please help me! I cannot boot the Retail Installer. It's keep saying Unable to find driver AppleACPIPlatform.kext or error about this kext. I have the same mobo and is working great. I only have to set ACHI for my drives in BIOS, Also I have S3 only in power settings, try that. I have also disable my jmicron controller 'cos I don't use IDE. This is the AppleACPIPlatform that I use, but I think you have other problem. Salute! Dyckyj
After reading through the 47 pages I have a few questions: - If I dual booted with vista would it be possible to use vista's bootloader? If it's not would I be able to set vista as the default o/s (so after a certain amount of time it would boot into it)? - If I formatted the vista partition with ntsc what would I format the leopard partition with? whya
I understand that the goal is to keep the installed partition as "vanilla" as possible, but how would I go about using a modified kext (instead of vanilla one) without touching the vanilla version that is on the installed partition? This is different than just adding a kext such as dsmos that doesn't exist already on the installed partition. For just one example, if I want to replace the Vanilla AppleACPI.kext in order to fix restart/shutdown, what is the best way to do this? Keep the one on the installed partition, and place the modified one in initrd (don't know what will happen...)? Delete the one on the installed partition, and place the modified one in initrd? Just modify the one on the installed partition? It probably doesn't make a difference, but for reference, I put the boot-132 files on a fat partition and boot from grub: title boot-123 kernel (hd0,0)/osx/boot/boot-132/boot biosdev=82 modulenounzip (hd0,0)/osx/boot/boot-132/initrd.img This method allows me to easily modify the initrd.img from Leopard, without having to create an ISO. Yeah, same question here... When I put a kext like IOAHCIFamily in boot-132 (in a pendrive, assuming that I want to use it AFTER Leopard installation to keep it "as vanilla as possible") it won't load because there's already an IOAHCIFamily installed in Leopard partition. So I must modify the version on info.plist inside IOAHCIFamily kext that is in boot-132 to a number higher than the one that is on IOAHCIFamily in Leopard Partition. Something like this: IOAHCIFamily in Leopard Partition: version 1.0.1 IOAHCIFamily in pendrive boot-132: version 1.0.2 That is because Leopard will always load the most updated kext. A good and simple trick is to simply delete (or move it to another folder) the kext from Leopard Partition so Leopard will only load the kext in boot-132. Also there's a problem with kexts with dependencies like AppleHDA. I've already tried deleting AppleHDA from Leopard partition and leaving a patched one along with HDAEnabler in boot-132 pendrive. It simply doesn't load because AppleHDA, for some reason, must be together with some other kexts to be loaded.

However, there is a small problem with that approach. The next time you apply a software update, apple may have installed a new copy of the deleted kext and then things won't work anymore. It is safer to use the higher version number and also try adding a high ioprobe score to the plist. ~Galaxy provided a description on that process in the slimbuild thread. firefox-bin
Boot from GRUB Those of you who have linux and use GRUB as your boot-loader, can use grub to boot boot-132. This is because the boot file in generic.iso is a multiboot compliant kernel. Actually from what i can figure out, it's a hybrid between a bootloader and a kernel (someone who understands it better, please shed some light on the technical aspects) If you have grub installed, there's a utility mbckh that checks a multiboot compliant kernel. After mounting generic.iso onto a directory mountpoint as (you have to be root, or run these commands sudo, of course) $ mount -t iso9660 -o loop generic.iso mountpoint You can do $ cd mountpoint $ mbchk boot boot: The Multiboot header is found at the offset 100. boot: Page alignment is turned on. boot: Memory information is turned on. boot: Address fields is turned on. boot: All checks passed. So yes, we're a multiboot compliant kernel, or at least to grub, we are. I've made a directory MacOSX86 in /boot where all the Mac OS X86 boot related stuff goes. $ cp boot /boot/MacOSX86/boot_dfe $ cp initrd.img /boot/MacOSX86/initrd_dfe.img Here's what i have in /boot/grub/menu.lst. Note that in grub, disk and partition numbers start from 0. default=0 timeout=10 splashimage=(hd0,1)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz #hiddenmenu title Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server (2.6.27) root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27 ro root=LABEL=root initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.27.img title Mac OS X (Leopard pc-efi v9.0) root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/MacOSX/boot_v9 biosdev=82 title Mac OS X (Leopard DFE-132) root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/MacOSX/boot_dfe biosdev=82 modulenounzip /boot/MacOSX/initrd_dfe.img have to leave for a while .... will complete this post, tomorrow perhaps. Hopefully, it'll be useful to linux users out there...

TedPHX
If you get a "Checksum Error" when booting ISOlinux from the generic.iso BOOT-132 image, mount the cd, copy the files off of it, and remake the iso image with the -boot-info-table option. dopeyo
I've been running Tiger and Leopard (Kalyway, Leo4All) on my Intel D915GUX board with a Celeron D for a couple of years now. It was as close to the MacIntel prototype as I could find, and it's been working great. But I want to try Retail install (show Steve some love and $$). Using the Kabyl-bumby and Munky's boot disks, I always get stopped at the disk ID prompt. 80 boots me into XP, 81 boots Leopard, anything else (Munky said his DVD was 90) just comes up blank. I've gone into Disk Utility, my Sony DVD is disk2s0, the Apple installer is on disk2s3, I've even used MacGirl's tips for hfsdebug. Still can't find the right hex disk ID to start up the Retail Leopard DVD. My setup: Leopard on SATA 1, XP on IDE 1, Sony DVD on IDE 2. I can't find a table of the common hexadecimal #'s for the disks. Any suggestions? What comes after 81?

Asks me if I want to enter any flags, tried -x -v cps=1 but no matter what, once it finishes loading the kexts off the retail, my computer restarts. Why is this? Well, since you didn't really provide any clue as to what you really typed in what sequence of events, I would assume it is because you entered the wrong data or entered it at the wrong place in the process. Hello guys, I am TOTALLY NEW to MAC world and love it, I was trying to make the iso to boot from the retail DVD but no luck. Can anyone here just crate the full working iso so I can burn just simply to a cd and boot from it? Please help me out.. How could anyone possibly do that? Even if a person wanted to do it, and I suspect most folks don't, you have provided no clue as to what you system is like. I don't mean the name of the system. I mean what processor - e.g., P4 AMD C2D etc.. - which video cards etc.. What steps have you taken to learn how to make your own? You said you had no luck, but you gave no idea what problems you had. In any case, you need to understand that these pre-boot cd builds are customized to your system. The only way someone would have one you could use is if they had a system with the same hardware. Google is your friend. How much searching did you do before asking for help. There are many threads in this forum that provide the information you need to get an OS X system up and running on non-Apple hardware. Many people spent there valuable time and effort to write the guides, collect information and make them available. Please make the effort to follow the rules and do your own research prior to asking for help. If you need to ask for help because you can't locate the answer, don't expect us to be mind readers and just know what you need, what you did etc.. Please make the effort to provide that data so we don't have to ask. One of the valuable resources for this topic can be found at DFE - boot-132 resources. elgreco
Hi everyone! First of all, thanks for this cool approach! I've got it up and running on my dell mini 9 which is now a macbook nano! I was so impressed with this that I bought an Asus EEE box to make my own mac mini. But I've been at it for the past two weeks on my spare time and haven't gotten it to work! This is driving me crazy! I've tried the generic iso, the same boot132 I used for the dell and various others. None have worked. They all freeze at the same place. Starting with -v the last thing I get is: AppleDecrypt: Starting... And than nothing happens. I went to the #leopard channel at irc but I got the advice to make my own iso. I don't know how, I just can't get it to work. I was hoping some of you might have already made a boot132 for the eee box (or the 1000h, it's basically the same machine) that I can use. Maybe there is a generic iso for the Atom chipset? And yes, I've read as much as I can on the forum, used google to search it (cause the search on this forum sucks!) and even chanted in tounges while booting up. Nothing has worked so far... "Help me [insert jedi name here], you are my only hope..." Awaiting eagerly your helpful replies!! And thank you for your time!!
