Eyvend, one noobie to anotherm maybe you could answer my question; I have a Gigabyte EP35C, 2.8 4 core very nice. I can't get any of these iso imags to boot anything, When I instert the disc and restart it, do I hold down any key to boot? Or press F8? How do I get one of these iso imags burned on a CD to boot? Thanks in advance!

You have to burn the images you download using nero, or something else. Don't burn the actual file, only what is inside it (in nero select burn previously made image, or something like that). Then when you are booting, press tab, F8, F9, or any other f number or delete. It should be written in your manual as boot selection or bbs popup. Then select your cd drive (with the burned cd inside.

I was wondering any could program a modded bios for my notebook (asus a7m), as the installation of ideneb v1.3 went succesfully but no way to boot the os, think is chipset-bios related. thx in advance, if there is a way to donate from out of here (belgium) i'd be pleased to do so. In attachement you'll find the latest biosrom from asus site!

Cross fingers to boot osx on my lappy!

thx

THIS WORKS FOR ME TOO

I have try making my own image with kexts but this cd will not boot.

thanks

1. burn this file initrd.img.zip on the cd this image is from "Guedes JR" Lcations is http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...13288&st=20 on this page

2. install retail DVD 10.5.4.

3. boot in to the second kalyway 10.5.5 install and install 10.5.5 kexts from this post http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=76404 also install Chameleon_V_1.0.11 (OPTINAL IF YOU WANT TO UPDATE TO 10.5.5)

OR

4. you can boot in to the Retail install with boot cd and install kexts. (I use OSX86 Tools to install the Kexts and Chameleon from the second HD kalyway install)

I was able to install it at last. Working as a charm.

The only problem I see right now is it doesn't allow me to upgrade it to 10.5.4 or later, it says I do not meet the requirements?

Should I use the ComboUpdate or the Update alone won't work?

System config file '/com.apple.boot.S/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found

Same here, I keep getting the same message over and over again.

Tried different .img's (kabyl, kabyl with patched boot file, generic, ...)

It boots, I change the disk with retail, it loads (loading kexts scrolling over my screen like a madman  ) and then I get a black screen and that's it.

Alright gents,

I've got a problem for you.

Here are my specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad q6600 (v2)

Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 v2.0

4GB (4x1gb) Corsair DDR2 800 DHX4 ram

ASUS ATi HD 4870 Graphics Card

Pioneer DVD Burner 215d Sata

(and all my HDD's are sata)

Now, I acquired the 2 Mac OS X Leopard discs off a mate (yes I'm Australian :)) ran this disc, then tried to start the Mac Installation, I got as far as actually booting in, but I was then promptly greeted with a very annoying message:

"This software cannot be installed on this computer."

After looking through the system log, all I can really see is issues with getting a UUID String... whatever that is. Error 35 is mentioned a lot if that means anything.

Also, another issue.

The hard drive I am attempting to install to, is a Sata2 drive split in two using partitions, one side being Windows XP, the other being this OS X system, however it sees the 107gb mac partition as being 2.5gb.... which is quite simply wont work.

What am I doing wrong? and How can I fix these issues please?

Well, not sure because you didn't say, but it sounds like you have an MBR partitioned drive. OS X only likes GUID partitioned drives unless you modify the DVD install mpkg.

Thanks for the quick reply.

can you explain/link to how I might install mpkg?

I am using a MBR to boot into windows.

and there is one other thing,

I have a legitimate Tiger disc as well, which I am trying to install on an older laptop, SSE2 standard, however, before it goes anywhere properly, while loading it just stops, screen goes blank, and it restarts, I tried to put the leopard disc on, but it gets stuck at:

"MAC Framework successfully initialized

using 3932 buffer hears and 3932 cluster IO buffer headers

dsmos: Starting..."

Any suggestions for that too?

MrMatt, leopard retail dvd or restore dvd?? i think you have a restore dvd. if you patiently read the topic, at this time you know that you need the retail dvd for installation, and for install you need to format your hd as guid, not mbr. (sorry for my english)

my advice is one hd for leopard and one hd for xp

my apologies, I have not read all 43 pages.

as for the disc,

I have 2, one names "Mac OS X Install Disc 1" and the other being ""Mac OS X Install Disc 2"

the word restore is not mensioned on either disc.

now, as for formatting my drive as GUID, I have a HDD I can use, but what application should I use to format with GUID please?

Thanks.

Those are restore discs. The retail DVD is one disc called "Mac OS X Install DVD". When you do get a install disc to boot, you can use Disk Utility from the menu when the installer boots. In the Partition tab, change the partitions how you like them and click options. Select GUID Partition Table. Click Partition to apply the changes, erasing the drive.

sorry for the long time, I was busy.

Okay, first extract the iso image FROM the zip file: you should now have something.iso (something is replaced by the iso's name). In Nero open nero express. Select the type "Image/Project/Copy" and click "Disc Image or saved project". When it asks for a file, go to the iso file (not the extracted folder, or the zip file) and press OK. Then select the options you want. I was using Nero 8 to do this, yours might be different. Please post what you are using if this doesn't work (i.e. nero, roxio)

Hi all,

Please forgive me for not reading the entire 42 pages. I have successfully comprised my own custom Boot-132 CD which allowed me to bootstrap the Retail Leopard 10.5.4 Install DVD and perform a successful clean install onto a GPT partition. The collection of KEXT's are hand-picked, and worked successfully in previous OS X installs (iDeneb, iATKOS,etc).

However, I am not able to boot my system afterwards using the same Boot-132 CD I made that successfully booted the Retail Leo installer! It reaches "Still waiting for root device" forever. Yes, I do have the appropriate ATA and SATA KEXT's on the CD (hence i installed onto a SATA drive from retail Leo disc & previous installs).

Strangely, once I pass the "-X" argument (Safe Mode), it boots successfully (but no Audio and CI/QE is SW).

All the KEXT's in my collection each have the:

<key>OSBundleRequired</key>

<string>Root</string>

at the end of Info.plist

Any ideas? What am I missing?

Thanks for any guidance,

Not sure about the second one.

As for the install mpkg, there is no link. It's part of the retail install dvd. There are two ways to modify it. One is to make a hacked copy of the install dvd. There are threads in the forum about that. Instahack may be one to look at. The other way is to use aonther drive or usb stick - 8Gb or larger - and use disk utility to partition it. Then, restore the dvd to it and modify itas required so it will boot and install on MBR. There are some threads about that as well.

Either solution will involve some work.
