sorry but i installed only the chameleon hdd tool and i NEVER changed the boot file and when i boot with in verbose mode i can see that all my kexts getting loaded!

 

only my applehda won't and i am searching for the problem!

I just had a look and the kexts in extra do get loaded even without copying that boot file from the CD. The Chamelion installer was oriented towards boot-132 so it probably had the correct boot file. Nevertheless I still need the two kexts for audio (aclinject and an older applehda) to be in the system extensions' folder. Otherwise sound won't work. Same goes for the other kext dealing with restart/reboot/shutdown.

 

Hmm...still think there is a permissons' issue in al of this.

Hey This was a great method to install os x I have a complete vanilla install on a compaq pc with a core 2 duo and I only have four kexts in the extra folder and everything works from get go....I ran combo update from 10.5 to 10.5.5. all went well ..I had to just boot into safe mode the first time after update then now it boots up reg since...can't wait to try and see if all goes same with next update ...well thanx everyone who has something to do with this method...

What am I doing wrong? I get to the grey Apple logo and it just sits there forever. Here is what I am doing... Boot first from boot-132, then, type -v > put in Leopard Retail DVD > hit Enter > Accept the default drive ID > then it shows the grey Apple logo screen and just sits there forever. No spinning icon, no beachball, nothing.

 

I've also tried the following boot-132 images...

generic.iso

GA-P35-DS4_ISO.iso

GA-965P-DS3-v2.iso

 

Hardware I'm using:

Dell Optiplex 620 (Intel 945G chipset)

Dell Optiplex 755 (Intel Q35 chipset)

 

Is there any boot-132 ISO specifically made for the above hardware? Any help would be great!

I can get the apple white screen to come up with the pin wheel of death, but there is a "X" that comes up after a few minutes of the pin wheel spinning. MY DVD drive doesn't spin during these times. What am I doing wrong?

 

I've tried a few different ISO images on this board. But I have yet to see someone post a completed ISO image with everything in it ready to work.

SATA Harddrives with linux installed on it

SATA DVD-ROM drive

If you're using an ECS 945GCT/M-1333, make sure you turn ATA off, otherwise you'll end up with a nice KP screen at boot because JMicron confuses Mac OS X.

 

And Lukepools, it sounds like your boot loader is missing or something went bad with any number of init and kernel files on your install. Try to reinstall a boot loader first, and if that doesn't work then reinstall Mac OS X.

 

BTW, a shout out to MacNut...haven't seen you since TME kinda went... yeah.

I tried ep35_ds3r.iso and it loads the first screen. But before I can put in the leopard disk the countdown restarts the computer has it loading into linux. I was able to get the apple screen to come on once briefly, but it went dark and tried to load linux instead. Thanks for your help.

Might be wrong, but FIRST thing to verify, is that you burned the IMAGE to the disk, and not the FILE... ?

 

If you open the disk, and see the .iso file on the disk, you didn't do it right... You need to burn the image to the disk.

Could be wrong, but that message is almost always indicative of a bad burn or CD.

No I didn't burn the CD FILE directly to the CD IE: opening the CD and seeing a ISO burned to the CD.

 

I tried it with DiskTools and also with Nero burning rom with no success.

Using original retail Leopard 10.5.4 DVD with cpus=1,-v. Before boot: screen and before loading img the message System config file ‘com.apple.boot.S/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist’ not found is flashed then img begins to load.. Loads for 10 sec. then ERROR: EBOIS Device error 0x01 block 16432726 sector 64 appears four (4) times. Continues to boot for some time continues until "Errors occurred while starting computer Pausing 5 sec ". Then final stop at "framework installed". Tried without -v and with -f. No errors but stops at apple circle of death sceen. Waited over 60 minutes. Used three different versions of boot132.

Foxconn P45A motherboard with P45/ICH10 chipset. SATA = AHCI

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I think the sequence should be: boot the boot132 cd, press enter and wait for a prompt for a drive number like 80, 81 [9f], eject the boot-132 cd, insert the retail install dvd and press enter, at the first prompt from the install dvd press f8. Now enter the -v kernel flag and any other required data.

No, doesn't work, at least with the generic.iso boot-132. I followed your steps exactly and now instead of the grey apple screen I get only a blank black screen after the verbose boot. Is there an ISO made for the GX620? Or, if not, what kexts would I need for that one? I believe the chipset is Intel 945G.

 

I would also like to get my GX755 working, which is I think a Q35 Intel chipset. Any boot-132 ISO for this?

please find attached a patched version of dfe's stage 2 bootloader.

 

this version supports JMicron IDE controllers (for those who have their DVD drive hooked up to such a thing), and a com.apple.Boot.plist in the root of the ramdisk. this plist can contain device-properties strings (so-called EFI strings) for gfx/audio/networking/whatever support during retail installation.

 

weird thing with this one, you have to hit escape when u first boot, otherwise it will try to boot the disc itself.

 

to use, replace the 'boot' file on your boot-132 cd with this one. please test and feedback.

I thought this was precisely what I was looking for. Maybe I was wrong, or it can't be used in that way.

I have a vanilla install with boot-132 method (the original one with Extra extensions, not the new method with EFI partition). The bootloader and Extra extensions are on my leopard partition. The only thing I have to modify after installation is the boot.plist.

I followed your instructions and replaced my bootloader on leopard partition with your patched one, and put my com.apple.Boot.plist on the root folder.

When I boot up, it begins to load, but I get a kernel panic on the gray screen with apple.

Booting with "-f" I get the following error "Package 0 didn't get an HPET", as if it didn't load my Extra extensions...

 

Am I doing something wrong or does it mean this patched bootloader is not designed tu be used in such a way ?

I can book off the DFE CD but it doesn't auto recognize the 10.5.4 retail disc i swapped out. I tried "9f" "df" "fe" to no resort. Also restored the install DVD to a 10gb partition and tried to boot "80" and "81" but no avail. Some help?

Just a quick guide to add kexts and make iso from OS X.

 

Download this package

 

Open terminal

 

Make a directory

mkdir newiso

copy following from the package into newiso:

- boot

- initrd.img

- isolinux.bin

- isolinux.cfg

- mboot.c32

 

to edit initrd.img set rw permission

chmod 777 newiso/initrd.img

then you should open it

hdiutil attach newiso/initrd.img

now copy the kext you need into /Volumes/initrd/Extra/Extensions/

cp -R mykext.kext /Volumes/initrd/Extra/Extensions/

I suggest you add dsmos.kext NVkush.kext and if you have alc889 also HDAenabler.kext and if you need kext to boot your root device also

One thing to notice, the kexts need this in the info.plist file:

 

		<key>OSBundleRequired</key>
	 <string>Root</string>

or

 

		<key>OSBundleRequired</key>
	 <string>Console</string>

or they will not load. To add those properties you can use nano and need to be added at the end of the plist file just before the last lines:

</plist>

If you need a bigger image you may resize it with this comman, choose appropriate size

hdiutil resize -size 20MB newiso/initrd.img

when you are finished adding you eject your initrd image

hdiutil detach /Volumes/initrd

now you need to create your iso

hdiutil makehybrid -o new.iso newiso/ -iso -eltorito-boot newiso/isolinux.bin -no-emul-boot

and then burn new.iso with your favorite burner (first try with a cd-rw disc so you can redo it later iwthout wasting cdr disc)

For anyone with an Aspire one, the default disc with dsmos.kext will boot if you add cpus=1. It seems that the kernel hates hyperthreading on atoms for some reason.

I'm having some problems with gfx string... com.apple.Boot.plist seems to load during boot, because it reacts to the timeout value. But the device properties string doesn't. At least not the Ati Radeon X1950XT (256mb) gfx string. It works fine with the netkas EFI v8.

 

What could be the problem?

Okay, here's the deal. I have a custom built PC with the specs:

 

E6700 Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz

XFX Alpha Dog Edition 8800GT XXX using DVI

1X250GB Maxtor Diamondmax 7200rpm on primary SATA. This is split into 2 partitions each about 112 GB NTFS, one for XP, one for Vista.

1X80GB Maxtor on secondary SATA. This is NTFS and is filled with games.

Samsung writemaster SH S183L on third SATA.

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard

 

I have burned the kabyl boot cd, and this boots. Then I swap it for the Leopard DVD, and enter -v, etc. The boot process starts, and I see all the kexts being loaded. THen i begin to get read errors for every single file. Sector (a lot of numbers go here) 64 could not be read. drive or controller error. It does this for some files, then it stops reading any files, and I get a very long list of errors reading files. Does the problem lie in my configuration, or my Leopard disc.

 

Also in the beginning, when loading the disc, for a split second it says something on the boot loader: something/somethign/something/apple.boot.com.plist not found. Is this bad?

 

If I try this in Virtual Machine 2007 or VirtualBox, it loads well, then it gets stuck after loading IOFirewire something.
