MACinized
Hi folks, If we could make the USB stick to boot both DVDs and HDs this would be perfect, but once we can't, let's be creative: I have a 512MB Compact Flash card laying around here. What if I use it with an CF to IDE adapter and install Boot123 into it? Do you guys think I'd be able to boot both my SATA HD's and DVD drive from it? The board I own is GA-P35-DS3. go Fernicus! booting retail leopard install (in sata hdd) off the usb-boot-132 loader is no longer an issue. what needs to get working is booting from optical drive (w/ say retail leopard dvd installer) using usb-boot-132. when i get home, i'll also try to boot from optical drive after boot-132 in a disk partition. [EDIT] can't boot to optical drive from boot-132 from a disk partition.
Foodie Monster
Complete n00b obviously.. but wondering does my macbook pro disk(s) =work using this method? searched, but couldnt find an answer No, Restore and Drop-in versions of Leopard (the ones that come in the box with your MB, MBP, iMacs, etc.) won't work for this method. You need an actual retail copy of OS X for it.

True, but that requires that you have OS X running already, and also you know, getting it right. I know that I couldn't get that done myself, I tried, and the disc was a coaster. I_AM_A_NINJA, if u got a really fast i-net connection, u may opt to download retail dvd installer from the bay. or better yet, visit an apple store & buy one. I'm thinking its best to load the nv52 installer after i've updated to 10.5.5 for gfx correct? also has anyone noticed a bump up in there xbench or geekbench scores since the update? dcshoes23
I installed Leopard Retail on my ASUS W7J notebook using the generic.iso and it booted fine after install. I then installed the 10.5.5 combined update and my computer just panics at boot. Any one else experience this with BOOT-132? I thought all the updates were supposed to work with no modifications? Jay5
I installed using a modified generic.iso from another post made for the badaxe2 board. Installed retail 10.5.1 fine, trying to upgrade direct to locally downloaded 10.5.5 combo and it frezzes at 98% complete. Anyone have ideas? Was able to force quit. Devin Patterson
Any luck from anyone with the GA-EP45T-Extreme motherboards? I would like to use boot 132 and was thinking of getting the newer 45 instead of the 35. If not, are there any other newer mobos that will work. I heard the Asus P5Q Pro has some problems in bios. With my new build I would really like to newer components. I know the ep35 is almost the standard though.
lisa73
Could someone please help me? I used the boot 123 from the following post on my Vaio VGN-AR520E: " Wow! Now it works! Guedes, I only added your initrd.img using WinIso and it works. My iso, with dsmos.kext added: http://www.4shared.com/file/53547099/b8769...ABYL-BUMBY.html " I put the boot 132 cd, then the os x 10.5 original dvd and went ahead with the installation. It went fine. after installation, on reboot, i switched the os x dvd with the boot 132 and chose the drive "80" and typed "-v -f" the os boots up with the animation and comes to a screen "please attach a keyboard" I remember seeing a boot 132 iso somewhere on this site specifically made for laptops? I can't think straight and am not sure how to proceed- could someone help?
phoenixjim
I'm pretty sure that most laptops use ps2 keyboards (internally) - you can always attach a usb keyboard to move forward, and try an updated PS2 kext. It's also possible that you have the ps2 kext, but it needs to be tweaked for your system (I'm sorry, I'm a noob myself so I hope someone else can give you details if that's the case). Could someone please help me? I used the boot 123 from the following post on my Vaio VGN-AR520E: " Wow! Now it works! Guedes, I only added your initrd.img using WinIso and it works. MR2nice
I have a couple of questions if any experts can guide me to the right path. I am currently using the GA-P35-DS4_ISO.iso to boot my retail Leopard DVD and it works great. None of the other .iso worked for me, ironically not even the GA-P35-DS3L.iso. However, the 10.5.5 update failed for me. Upon more research on this forum I've found out that's because of the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I now have a working 10.5.5. Then I started to look at the differences between these ISO's to hopefully perfect my installation so that it can perform future updates without any issues. I noticed that inside the GA-P35-DS4_ISO.iso, when I mount the INITRD.IMG I only see the "Extra" folder and inside it is the Extensions.mkext. No "Extensions" folder was seen. All of the other ISO's such as GA-P35-DS3L, generic, and BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY they have the "Extra\Extensions" and a list of many .kext files. On my Root drive, I see the "Extra" folder and inside it is the Extensions.kext. No "Extensions" folder either. My questions are: 1. How can I see what's inside the Extensions.mkext? Does this file contain a list of kext files similar to the ones you see inside the Extensions folder from other boot-132 ISO? 2. Would it work if I create a folder "Extensions" inside the "Extra" folder on the Root and then add to what I think are the proper kexts for my build? The following files are the ones I'm planning to add to the Extensions folder: Most of these files I grabbed directly from my System\Library\Extensions AppleACPIPlatform AppleAHCIPort AppleHDA AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer ; not sure if this is needed, but I saw it in other ISOs AppleSMBIOS dsmos IntelCPUPMDisabler IOAHCIFamily SMBIOSEnabler Thanks in advance for any help. kennyp
Time for me to ask for help. Looking to change from updated iATKOS 10.5.4/10.5.5 to full retail. I have tried every method I can find, all seem to work...to a point. My Compaq C712NR laptop is very close hardware to a black Macbook.....so I gotta be close. I have tried 132 cd, Boot_Kably_Bumby, install from within a working system, Chameleon on hard drive on USB thumb on USB hard drive, PC_EFI...the list goes on.....I have read threds for three days (my head hurts) I am good through the disk swap (or whatever I do for the retail install) DVD loads, gray apple screen, no problems. When the display changes after gray screen to blue......I get stuck Laptop display is blank blue, no ball, no pointer If I hook up external display, at the same point, laptop display turnes almost white, external display blinks black a few times then goes to the opening wallpaper. It also has the spinning beach ball that moves with mouse. I have tried all the boot flags I can think of, and all kinks of combonations.....no luck I have tried two different Retail DVD. I see no panic booting under -v, and where the problem is, is after the text anyway. Somebody out there has to have some idea, I'm lost, and realy need some sleep (I just can't let it go) Thankx bunches Kenny

Lack of sleep is a severe obstacle in computer problem solving (and not to mention your health!). Cm. I have a couple of questions if any experts can guide me to the right path. Greatly appreciate it. 1. Extensions.mkext is an archive of kext's. Search for "mkextunpack" and "kextcache" in the forum and you'll figure it out. There are threads/topic's describing how to use them better than I could. 2. That boot iso (GA-P35-DS4.ISO) has a disabler for AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext so you shouldn't need to worry 'bout that. The answer to your question either way would be yes, it'll work as long as you get permissions right in Extra/Extensions/ and down. Diskutil won't work here - use "chmod -R 755" and "chown -R root:wheel". Remember the "-R"! Basically you're doing a "manual" repairPermissions. For more info, again use the search. Does anyone know if dfe and/or others are working on updating boot-132 and/or chameleon? Or is it considered as done? Mostly I'm thinking of booting from dvd using usb and adding efi-strings to the bootcd/usb... Thanks, Cm.

celtikmind
Yes, usb-boot to dvd for installing is something I can live without for now but if adding EFI-string on the usb-boot was possible... and thus removing the need to do any editing on the partitions at all... man, that would make my OSx86 day! You can do this Use a prepared USB pendrive, sd card... with Chameleon+boot-dfe add the files shown in the picture (replace the extra/extensions,mach:kernel.... with yours) edit the boot.plist and add the uuid of your target drive, efi strings and that´s all. It works. to prevent the usb partition automount open a terminal and type sudo nano /etc/fstab (add the line) UUID="the USB UUID" none hfs rw,noauto If you don´t have a pendrive you can use use a a mini partition, install chameleon, replace chameleon boot with dfe boot and copy the files shown in the 1st picture... edit the boot.plist and add the leopard partition UUID, hide the mini partition (UUID="the mini-partition UUID" none hfs rw,noauto) and you got it.
