The injector nvkush that you are using, where do you have it? Do you have it in /System/Library/Extensions or do you have it in the root folder in Extra/Extensions/?

After updates 10.5.3 and 10.5.4, nvkush needs to be in /System/Library/Extensions. It won't work well if you leave it in the root in Extra/Extensions/ folder.

already have it in /System/Library/Extensions but still same problem. :o

Okay, it must be the 10.5.4 nvidia kexts. A huge number of people are having problems with the 10.5.4 nvidia kexts.

What you can do is download NVinstaller 4.1 and use pacifist to install the kexts. That way you will be sure that pacifist will overwrite the 10.5.4 nvidia kexts.

i guess that's just the fix. i used v.51. and since can't specific kext for my vga card, i just installed them all & after reboot, iphoto perfectly works.

tnx a lot Jingu!

the thing is, can't it be included in the "xtra" folder so that the leopard install still remains "freshly vanilla"?

Hi,

From my experience, install NVkush *after* installing 10.5.4. Then everything works fine (I'm testing it with a 8800 GTS 320)

Im still trying to get install to boot up.I can get to leopard background and spinning colored ball but will not go any further. It does not bring up install screen

That's because when you updated to 10.5.4, you lost QE/CI. You need QE/CI to have iPhoto magnify a picture when you double click.

hi again Jingu.

w/ the nvinstaller, do u know w/c kext/bundle below should i use for my nvidia geforce 6500 256mb?

  • GeForce.kext
  • GeForce2MXGLDriver.bundle
  • GeForce3GLDriver.bundle
  • GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle
  • GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle
  • GeForceFXGLDriver.bundle
  • GeForceGA.plugin
  • GeForceVADriver.bundle
  • IONDRVSupport.kext
  • NVDANV10Hal.kext
  • NVDANV20Hal.kext
  • NVDANV30Hal.kext
  • NVDANV40Hal.kext
  • NVDANV50Hal.kext
  • NVDAResman.kext

is there a way to load it (together w/ the kexts i need for my audio) w/out putting it in the /S/L/Extensions? would the Chameleon_DFE_for_Hard_Disk installer be recommendable? as much as possible, i want the /S/L/Extensions (& any other vanilla system files) untouched.

i guess u have to remove any other graphics kexts in the initrd of your boot-132 disc. if that still doesn't work, try including the nvkush.kext.

Awesome work guys. Somehow I keep getting "isolinux: image checksum error boot failed" when booting the ISO with modified kext.

Using a P35-DS3R, Pioneer 111D ATA, Q6600, ATI 3750, 4GB mem.

Edit: I used the ISO by KISS but I can't seem to boot from the Leopard DVD. I tried entering 80 to 89 and nothing happens. 80 and 81 see my HDs.

I am also having the "isolinux: image checksum error boot failed" problem. And guess what? I also have an Pioneer DWR-111D ATA drive. I am running on a Bad Axe 1.

I searched and read reports of this problem possible being related to having an old BIOS, BIOS setting, having the DVD burner on the same IDE channel as a hard drive, or that it could be solved by using an external USB housing. None of these potential solutions worked for me.

I also tried coverting the ISO image to a "cd master" in Disk Utility to no available. I did notice that there is an open source "cdrtools" project which appears to have solved similar problems Linux people, but I have yet to try it.

Note, that the original BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY.iso boots fine, but the ones I make my myself and "generic.iso" (by Filip Bartholdy) posted at the beginning of this thread (with include dsmos.kext and NVkush.kext) fail to work. I have yet to try the KISS ISO.

EDIT:

The KISS ISO works for me! (dsmos.kext without "isolinux: image checksum error boot failed" problem.)

Here the link for others in need: http://www.4shared.com/file/53547099/b8769...ABYL-BUMBY.html

Apparently part of the "isolinux: image checksum error boot failed" problem has do with Disk Utility and command line burning in OS X (I did not try Toast). The KISS ISO was made with WinIso.

Yeah, your boot132 CD probably does not have a dsmos.kext (decrypter). Try the boot-132 resource thread in the Leopard installation subforum.

That KISS ISO works for me too without having to change AHCI to IDE in the BIOS! I had to do this to get sabr's one to load. Pioneer DVR-111D here (only IDE device, HDs are both SATA). I burned both images in Windows with ImgBurn so I think the root cause of the problem is the iso building tools in OS X.

FOR EVERYONE HAVING CHECKSUM ERRORS:

The problem for me was that no matter what method I used to make a custom ISO, all the files on it were named in UPPERCASE, so boot became BOOT, initrd.img became INITRD.IMG etc. Not sure why. Compare any working ISOs with any non-working ISOs and you'll hopefully see what I mean.

Anyway, I ended up building a custom initrd.img and then just editing an existing ISO (one with lower-case filenames) in MagicISO in windows.

Bizarrely, the ISOs with the uppercase filenames still worked under VirtualBox.... maybe its only certain BIOSes or somethign that are affected?

I also had Checksum errors, but only when using AHCI on a JMicron controller. After connected the DVD-drive to the ICH9R on the same motherboard (P35C-DS3R), the problems vanished, and I was still using AHCI. So the problem seems to arise only in certain chipsets, and only with AHCI turned on.

yes, but please please check for the UPPER CASE thing first before you go changing AHCI or other BIOS settings ! in my case, nothing in the BIOS made any difference - the ISO itself was 'bad'.

Hi Everyone!!!

I have:

MOBO: GYGABITE EP35-DS3P

PROCESSOR: Intel Core2Quad q6600

I´m runnig on Kalyway updated 10.5.4 totally ok.

Do you think that this retail dvd method will work for me??

Thanx!!

David Eliott has just released a new version of his modified boot-132 bootloader.

One of the new things it can do is to load kexts from an .img file which contains kexts (or even an mkext) and boot Leo.

That means you can have two mkexts, one folder with kexts on the .img file and the folder with kexts from your installed system

or even two folders with mkexts.

How does it work?

Basically, you create a flat dmg with the kexts in a folder and the bootloader will load them for you. This means quite a lot;

you can boot from a retail Leo DVD and install it, you can update straight from apple, you can reinstall and not have to add

the same kexts to your install every time. The bootloader behaves like the linux kernel: you can use an mboot (a patched syslinux

was used) compatible bootloader which tells to boot-dfe about the .img file (the ramdisk or initrd, as it's known by the linux users)

and boot-dfe is going to use the kexts (or mkext) from it.

What does it do?

This new boot-dfe has been tested with the retail Leopard DVD and it can boot, install and run Leopard without having to build

a modified DVD.

Infos about hardware:

[OFF]: Vanilla = Original Mac OS X DVD or Mac OS X Installation with running original mach_kernel.

AMD systemz isn't supported.

To use Mac OS X Vanilla DVD needs a Intel "Mac" closer systemz, like a Intel Core processos and Intel Chipset. This is only combination supported by "Vanilla Installz", other processors and chipsets isn't supported by "Mac OS X Vanilla systemz"

This is how it's done: you burn an ISO (which has the bootloader on it) to a CD/DVD, after it gets to the boot

prompt, you press ESC or ENTER and it prompts for a new BOOT DEVICE, you swap the BOOT CD/DVD with the LEO Retail DVD, you press

enter and it shows you the name of the bootable partition from the DVD, you press enter and Leo starts to load.

Quick resume about "oh, what to do now?"

#1 - Burn .iso on a CD;

#2 - Boot this CD;

#3 - When Darwin prompt appear, eject CD and put Mac OS X Leopard Retail DVD;

#4 - Press enter (or -v and enter...wherever...)

#5 - After install, boot using CD boot again and install .kext needed...and usual files.

#6 - Done!

For the time being, you cannot have this bootloader on an USB stick and have it boot the Retail Leopard DVD. The reason why this

happens is related to the way the BIOS handles DVDs and optical media: there's no BOOT DEVICE associated with an optical drive

which the BIOS has not booted from. Basically, this is like the disk swap trick known to the PlayStation gamers.

You can already put this on an USB stick/CD/DVD and boot a vanilla install (vanilla= no added kext, no replaced kext on the partition).

As usual, this only works for compatible machines(that means you still can't boot a vanilla system on AMD, they need specialised patches).

What are you going to do in the future?

David Eliott said he'd merge some of the things from Chameleon into boot-dfe. Those involved in the development of Chameleon will merge

the support for ramdisks into Chameleon and more effort will go into making the distribution 100% legal.

Work might(read: should, in the very close future) also go into making Chameleon boot the Retail DVDs when loading the bootloader from the HDD.

User guide and link to the ISO

This ISO needs to be modded (add dsmos to the Extensions folder) in order to be able to boot Leo.
