I had no luck getting Taruga's AppleHDA.kext (patched for ALC883) to load from /Extra/Extensions either. Adding/incrementing the IOProbeScore values just didn't work. So I just have it installed normally.

 

Same here, with Taruga's v4 ADI 1988B patched AppleHDA. It works fine from the installed system but not from /Extra.

I actually do have a clue about what I'm doing :P since dsmos and Disabler are loading from /Extra just fine and I've deleted them from /S/L/E. It appears that, for some reason, AppleHDA can not easily be loaded this way. Maybe the issue is with timing, and it cant load that early in the boot process? I dunno, that's just a guess.

First of all, thanks for sharing this method of installing the, so far, most pure version of OSX on Hack. Kudos. I'll preface by saying that I could successfully install OSX 10.5 Leopard on my system (see specs in my signature) using the BOOT-132 Method - in my case, I used the generic.iso to boot up (my hex code was [df], just in case anyone cares), and installing onto a brand new SATA2 250GB HDD. Right now I'm downloading the combo update from Apple (downloading the .dmg itself in case my system gets trashed - I don't want to have to re download 600mb on a 512kbps connection), and so far things seem smooth.

 

I do have 2 problems however:

 

1) My onBoard audio is ALC883 (I believe it's Realtek), and I am unsure as to which package to install to get audio on my system - it's the only thing aside from the onboard Gigabit NIC that doesn't work OTB with Generic.iso. Any of you guys could put a link to a good known ALC883 .pkg? I know that Kalyway's worked on my system but I have no idea of how to navigate towards wherever it is stored in the DVD (If anyone knows the location within the DVD, that'd help too).

 

2) I tried to build my own .iso for booting by following the method posted on the first post. I followed it down to a tee, but when I tried to boot from it it said it wasn't a valid boot CD or something to that effect. Keep in mind that Generic.iso did work just fine (I am writing from a BOOT132'd Installation). Any ideas, guys? It'd be killer if someone could post a made .iso that was just Generic.iso with the added ALC883 Realtek Sound driver - I'd literally love you forever.

 

Again, thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer my questions and thank you for posting this method. It was way more painless than I expected (and Kalyway's method was already extremely painless, so that's saying something). :(

 

EDIT: I forgot one more question.

 

3) How could I, know that my system is working using this method, make it so that it doesn't need the Boot CD anymore? I've read that you could manually replace the .kexts inside the Extensions folder with whatever you had on your initdr.dmg, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of this whole installation method? Some clarifications and a general idea as to where to start would be appreciated. Thanks again, folks. :)

for finding kexts just use pacifist to open the install disk and navigate to something like system/install/packages or something, anyway i never remember it and always find it pretty easily.

and as for moving the kexts from your cd to folder, they are talking about a special folder that chameleon uses and can load at boot, this is done automatically if you use kalys dfe hard drive installer from first post.

Ok, so I took the plunge and used OSX86Tools by pcwiz to install Chameleon onto my Mac OS X HDD Install. While trying to get my video card working *After* updating to 10.5.4 using the BOOTCD, I installed my string using EFI-whatever, and also enabled Quartz Extreme using pcwiz's tool. After installing chameleon, I could boot without the BOOTCD, and I have sound and video working (strangely enough for a few seconds I don't have QE/CI enabled upon boot, kinda like until the .kext kicks in). Now here is my question: will I need to take any special precautions now that I am booting using chameleon onto the HDD with my Extensions folder now having my kexts for Audio and Video? Or am I home safe to update from Software Update without further issues?

I am stuck here after installing the retail version using boot-132, then installing Chameleon, I get stuck at the "Do You already Own a Mac" screen where it wants to sync up with a .mac account, if I select "Do Not transfer my information now" it restarts the intro, where you see all the languages welcoming you and just loops this way over and over. How do I get past this?

I have just tested this modified BOOT-132 Boot CD method on a 8GB USB stick. I used a retail Leopard 10.5.0 install DVD with chameleon EFI with the Extra Extensions folder in the root.

 

THE RESULTS ARE SPECTACULAR!!!

 

Even with a bare bones install, I still did not have enough space on the 8gb drive to run the 10.5.4 combo update directly. So, I had to run the 10.5.2 combo update, uninstall some applications, then run the 10.5.3 delta upgrade and finally the 10.5.4 delta upgrade.

 

Each system update was amazingly seamless even with the IntelCPUPowerManagement kext on my system (I have the IntelCPUPMDisabler to cancel it out).

 

This is in contrast to the Netkas 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 upgrade method where you have to run a script in terminal that will remove the IntelCPUPowerManagement kext as soon as it hits your system and then you have to modify a system install configuration file.(No disrespect to Netkas here. I still appreciate and admire his fantastic work and all his help to the community).

Let's see, you have over 90 posts, which means you've been here for a while, so you should know by now... We are not mind readers or seers of any sort, so you need to POST YOUR SYSTEM SPECS at the very least. How are we supposed to help if you don't give us as much information as possible?

 

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't see your signature. I fail. /me facepalms. lol. And see I'm man enough to admit my mistake that I'm not removing my post. HAH!

 

EDIT2: Is there any reason why you have the JMicron controller on that CD? It's the only thing in there that could potentially be a showstopper, but then again, I'm not sure. You might wanna try removing that .kext and trying again.

the reason i have it in the boot-132 disc is i got it from karaakeha1's guide & have a working leopard out of a retail dvd. but of course i'd like to try this method since i wanna do away w/ the modified leopard install.

 

now i'll go try your advice. will give feedback later.

You can also try rebooting and hit -f at the prompt. That's what worked for me when I was stuck in that loop.

The pic is broken, so we can't see it. What I'd recommend is that you try to make a new BOOT132 CD that has the bare minimum of things, and go from there. My suggestion would be to start with these 4 .kexts in the CD, and see if the bare minimum works.

 

- ACPIPS2Nub.kext

- dsmos.kext

- IntelCPUDisabler.kext

- SMBIOSEnabler.kext

 

See if that works. Other than that, I'm fresh out of ideas. :S

Do you have any graphic kexts installed like NVinject, Natit or NVflusch? If you do, I suggest that you reuse your installation DVD and use terminal to remove the graphic kext. Once you can get to the desktop, then you can reinstall the graphic kext.

I'm kind of a newb, so I could be wrong (and it doesn't show it in your screenshot) but it sounds kinda like the system is stuck in "waiting for root device". I experienced that problem with a couple of different iso's when I tried them. The only way I could get past it was to enable AHCI in my BIOS.

I have a few questions. I've done a lot of reading and just want to check myself.

 

It is possible to use this on a usb drive and have a completely vanilla install on the hard drive provided that you have the right hardware?

 

Is it possible now to use this method with no disk in the drive and no usb stick? (I see a download for chameleon hard disk... is that a yes to my question?)

 

I really appreciate the work you guys have put into this, it sure makes me happy I built my hackintosh and didn't buy a crazy expensive mac.

i believe i've tried having this kind of boot-132 disc already. same thing w/ the "generic.iso" that has so many files already in it. but since can't clearly remember, i guess it's still worth a try. will prepare a boot-132 disc w/ just these 4 kexts.

 

hope there are some more ideas/help.
