I'm a noobie to the OSX86 installation l and am having a heck of a time trying to get past the Darwin boot loader and boot from my retail leopard dvd. I've got about 10 hours of reading, etc into this and I'm still having a problem.

 

Here's my config:

 

Asus P5N-E SLI with intel E2160 overclocked to 3.0Ghz with the latest BIOS update

4GB RAM

LG 20x DVD RW SATA

120 GB internal IDE drive

Geforce 8600gt with 1GB RAM, 128 bit PCI-E

 

I've downloaded the generic.iso and added the jmicron boot patch as well as the jmicronata.kext. I just cannot get past the Darwin boot loader. I type -v -f and it keeps prompting me for the boot device. It's like it just is not finding my sata dvd rw drive. Kalyway doesn't give me this problem but I'd really like to go the retail version route.

 

I'm now thinking of going the route of installing from a usb thumb drive per this thread.

 

Does anyone have any suggestions? I really appreciate it.

 

Could be the combination of Sata DVD and IDE hard drive that´s causing the problems but it´s hard to tell for sure. Seems it´s a mistery if it works or not and for some reason from time to time nomatter what you do it just does´nt work. I´ve succelfully installed the Kalyway 10.4.10 the Kalyway 10.5.1 the Retail 10.5.1 up to 10.5.4 using all these methods from 123 to LTLs method on an Asus P4P800se a Ga P35-DS3R and aGA EP45-DS3 and an Intel D945GCLF mobo but had to use different methods every time. In short words in can drive one nuts, I´ve been trying for a week to install Leo on a new hard drive on my Asus P4P800se mobo but it just coes´nt work. The case is I already have a working install on this mobo on another hard drive so it´s possible but for some reason this time it wount let me, really strange.

 

I´d try LTLs retail install if I where you, seems that one works pretty much moast stable. You need a working install though to install from. There´s where I´m going from here. Good luck

Quick resume about "oh, what to do now?"

 

#1 - Burn .iso on a CD;

#2 - Boot this CD;

#3 - When Darwin prompt appear, eject CD and put Mac OS X Leopard Retail DVD;

#4 - Press enter (or -v and enter...wherever...)

#5 - After install, boot using CD boot again and install .kext needed...and usual files.

#6 - Done!

I have a gaming rig that was sitting around doing nothing that I'm trying to get a retail install of leopard working on. Using your guide, i used the "Generic" iso and burned it to DVD as is. I boot from that, wait for the prompt, switch in the retail DVD (I think its 10.5.0 or other very early Leopard distro.) I hit enter, it asks for a drive letter and I accept the suggested default of "ef", I see a bunch of EBIOS errors, I see another boot: prompt, i enter "-v -f" and it starts scrolling through kexts. When it gets to one called "TMSafeftnet.kext" it reports errors and reboots.

 

My hardware:

Mobo: ASUS P5Q Pro

NIC: Realtek 8169

GPU: Nvidia 8800 GT overclocked edition with 512MB RAM

 

Anyone seen this issue before? Any sussgestions? Thanks in advance.

After installing (hope everything will be fine) do I need to copy the chameleon for HDD or do I need something else to boot without the CD?

So please try with EP35-DS4.iso(even if you don't have a DS4 board) and in your BIOS check HPET is enabled with 32 bit, AHCI is enabled.

 

Before to start check that your keyboard AND mouse are both connected using USB and not PS2.

If one is using a PS2 please buy a PS2->USB adaptor.

If you have a wireless keyboard with a wireless key I don't know...

 

1) Boot on the boot cd

2) When prompt is displayed - remove boot cd and install MacOS retail DVD(update disk won't work^, only retail)

3) Press ESC to display another prompt with this time the default CD/DVD number [fe]

4) Press Enter to boot on the macOS Install DVD

5) A message should appear indicating that you can press F8 for more options

6) press F8

7) boot: -x then press enter key

8) MacOS should start.

9) Once installed you should have an error message. It's normal

10) Put your boot CD back

11) when prompt is displayed , enter 80 and press enter

12) add -x

13) Once you are here please let me know ;-)

thanks for helping me...but the mobo isn't arrived yet.I'll give a try tomorrow.I have only PS2 mouse and keyboard.Is that such a big problem?

 

Can I try with iPC 10.5.6 or iDeneb ( I use it at this time)

 

Of course everything is possible but I prefer not to play to much with kext and that kind of stuff.

Rebooting three times just to add support for PS2 keyboard is too complicated for me ;-)

 

The less I mofidy the original install the better I feel.

iDeneb works fine ...

iPC never tried.

I have a Dell D600 using an Intel processor with SSE2. I saw on another string that I should turn go to the bios and turn off speedstep, turn off LAN and change the POST from minimal or automatic to Thorough. When I do that I will begin to load 10.5.4 and then reboot continuously.

Hi, I need help in some matter

I booted 132 put mac os x leopard retail an pressed F8 , wrote -v -f . All good and nice but whet it finishes loading it says pausing for 5 seconds and restarts the pc.

I have a toshiba l30- 113 laptop

What I should do?

First post in here, Im reading us from a quite while now, amazing work u do. Used to have kalyway versions iatkos and idenevs but this is just LOVELY!! I'm really impressed

 

My question is about loading the mac osx system using Grub bootloader ( no probs with mac installation nor chamaleon for hdd utility).

I know it can be done as i used to have it on my system.

For some reason i had to reinstall ubuntu and since then i cant load my lovely mac from GRUB, have to do a quickboot from BIOS if I want to, and that's not as good as it used to be!!

As far as i know the chamaleon for hdd creates a fat32 partition flaged as boot, isn't it?? i think i should boot my system using that --> hd0,0 isn't it??

tryied without the map thing and different combinations (removing chainloader & makeactive) but no luck at all.

Anyone out there knows what im doing wrong in here?? i would really apreciate some help as im fed up of presseing F8 and to do the quickboot thing to boot my beauty mac.

Hi,

I'm having problems booting from my retail Mac OS X Leopard Install Disc,

I have inserted dsmos.kext into initrd.img, and I have successfully been able to boot into the Darwin bootloader, but the problem is I get the grey Apple loading screen and it just hangs, I've tried using -x, -v but even using -v it doesn't load in verbose mode.

Any thoughts,

UPDATE: Found a custom ISO built for Dell Inspiron XPS. Works!

 

I managed to install Leopard with the modified "generic.iso" although the keyboard didnot work during the install and the usb mouse i attached worked only with a lot of hiccups.

UPDATE: Found the cause, disabled Multi-Core in BIOS and problem of mouse solved. Integrated keyboard does not work though. I think it may require some kexts.

 

But I don't know how to install the kexts after booting after the install. Can anyone help in this regard too please?

UPDATE: Still couldnot find this anywhere, will keep looking.

Hi All,

I have been trying to install using the boot 132 method with the retail disc and its still not working. It boots the generic disc, then I swap disc for the retail and it boots and into the apple screen. It makes it pass the apple logo screen but then it turns blue for less than a second and then complete black screen.

 

Following system (Dell Latitude D820):

Intel C2D T7200

3 GB DDR2 667 RAM

Toshiba 120GB SATA HDD

Intel GMA 950

Thanks guys, i did it !

 

The install took quite a while but it went ok.

 

I've used BOOT-KABYL-BUMBY.ISO and just went till the end.(thanks folks!!!)

 

There are only still small things on my way and some directions would sure be nice...

no sleep, no QE, and the same s**t error about CPU and Memory in System Profiler as some people is having.

Hello! im a noob to hackentosh. i have tried a iATKOS v1.0i, v2.0i, and v5.0i and i have tried kalyway 10.5.2. with no luck. i can never seam to even get to the install menu. kalyway seams to get to a screen with a really small text. then it freezes. :P the iATKOS disks all show an error message saying that there is a Library boot file or somethine missing. i cant remember what it says.

Im also curious. this method of using a boot CD and a Retail versions of OS X works fine or what have you.

but could i use the boot CD to load Kalyway ?

The Green Guy - you need to install Chameleon and then you can call the extra kexts etc. onto the boot partition, have you followed one of the setup guides like this one:
