vbetts
Well, I actually did find one LGA771 cpu that isn't a Xeon, it's the Core 2 duo Extreme QX9775 for skulltrail. Would this work in a MacPro? I don't have any plans to buy this, or even a Macpro, just curious. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819115044 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113029-macpro-with-core-2-duo-extreme/ Share on other sites
Dermatea
The LGA771 socket version of the Intel QX9775 is a lot like a Xeon processor, and should be compatible with any current socket 771 motherboard, not just Intel Dual Socket Extreme, a.k.a. "Skulltrail" motherboards. There are plenty of dual 771 Xeon motherboards out there that should be able to take two QX9775s instead of two Xeons. So if a Mac had a LGA771 socket motherboard, then it should be able to accept a LGA771 QX9775. vbetts
MacPros are dual socket LGA771, correct? I could be thinking of something else, but I'm pretty sure they are.
