randeX
Think of Mkext as a zip file for Kexts. The Mkext is a single file that can contain many Kext files. So I have most the Kexts bundled inside the Mkext file, but there are 2 that are required to be installed individually and not in the Mkext file. Bottom line, you already have all the files you need smile.gif Thanks, just the anwser I was loking for But I stil have many Kernel Panics. I have a teori that its my Vista Drive, because everytime I try to use it Finder I get a Kernal Panic. This is also the only disk connectet to the purple SATA connectors (Jmicron SATA?) and I have set those to standart IDE in bios. The reason I have this is because Vista wont boot if it is in ACHI. So is it the two Jmicron kexts that is the problem? (JmicronATA & LegacyJmicronATA) I never had this problem on my previos installs (iATKOS and LS8v14) but they didn't have the Jmicron kexts. Kunal2139
Trying to make a new rig with the UD3P, installed with the Kalyway disc with instructions from the previous guide. Installation was fine, got the video card driver (for my 2600xt) right off the Kalyway disc. But when I tried to install the 10.5.5 Combo update, I got a kernel panic. My question is, do I have to install 10.5.3, 10.5.4 (from instructions in the previous Soup guide) then do the 10.5.5 update? And then run the UInstaller? tmmuk
@ahdrage - did you figure out a fix for your graphics problem? Anyone have any ideas about how I might fix the graphics problems on my install (nVidia 7900GT 256mb)? Dymbag
I have a GA-EP35-DS3L board, SATA DVD drive, SATA HD. I attempted weaksauce12's Boot132 method to install from a 10.5.0 retail DVD.I applied the BIOS settings specified in the guide then booted using the boot132 disc created from weaksauce12's kit, however I can't get the installer to load. The Apple logo screen comes up with the timer graphic, but it hangs there forever as if its loading, and never leaves this screen. I don't receive any kernal panics or errors. I also used the -v method and verified that I was not getting any errors. It seems that most people have had success using these guides, at least most actually get an install. Has anyone had any issues like mine? How much memory do you have installed and how many cores are you running? You may have to force cpu usage to 1 and/or memory to 2048. This would be just until you have installed the appropriate fixes in the UInstaller.

delite
Thank you, weaksauce. I am probaly the biggest noob on this board and your guide made it work for me (still no audio tho im working on it). Anyways was going to ask if anyone successfully upgraded to 10.5.5 using kalyway 10.5.2 and then 10.5.4 delta?
catjesus
delite: I also couldn't get audio working using the guide. I had an AppleHDA kext from a different guide that DID work. However, my machine kernel panics everytime I shut down with the message being about AppleHDA....... but I have digital 5.1 sound Restart works no problem. Try to find someone elses files for the audio chip in the ds3l. I don't want to send you my file because of the problem I just mentioned. If you can't find one let me know and I'll share, otherwise let me know which one you're using! As for my bizarre midnight screen saver kernel panics on ATi 2600xt........... I just ordered an 8800GTS from NewEgg for $52!!!! (Open box, but still!) The absolute cheapest I can find an 8800gts is $99 and its at some place i've never heard of before, most other places want > $200. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...82E16814127328R If anyone is interested. I saw it last night, wanted to order it today and it was sold out... only to pop back up about an hour ago. So if its gone and you want it, keep checking! Has anyone resolved the issue where leaving a disc in your DVDRW without using it for awhile (maybe 15 minutes?) causes the computer to forget your dvdrw exists? If you try to exist it flashes a message about ejecting the disk (but doesnt), i also believe that the system profiler won't acknowledge the dvdrw as being attached anymore. I've read one fix is to set your drives to never sleep, but I'd rather not waste the energy/drives to let them spin constantly... also turning off AHCI avoids this problem too. I didn't used to have it in the past, so it is related to the AHCI kexts I think... any suggestions appreciated. --Fingers crossed that the 8800GTS solves my kernel panic problems once and for all--
delite
Well, yea, im in the process, still experimenting tho. I tried with iDeneb 10.5.5 with sound patch (googled alc889a 10.5.4) and i had a working sound but no QE/CI working on my 8800GT 512. I used NVinstallerv52.pkg but coudlnt get it to work. Resolution change yes, QE supported no. Now im back on Kaly 10.5.4 with this guide again and googling/trying to get it to 10.5.5 and fix audio then. BTW good deal on that 8800, i too went to "older" 8800GT model instead of newer nvidia cards solely on the basis of mac osx project and overall good compatibility. EDIT: Am at 10.5.6 still no sound tho. Looks stable, shutdown/reboot works, sleep does not (used to wake with powr button now does not work)

They're both about $8 each and are driverless - completely plug-and-play within Leopard. They should solve the problems with audio & networking forever! Im at 10.5.6 and i didn't have sound either, but now i DO. All i did was reinstall the audio that weaksauce provided in his DS3L package AND i went into system preferences > sound > output. i don't remember which one i picked, but i remember only one of the options giving sound. Get back to me when it works (ps, if it doesn't work, then buy the driverless sound card that weaksauce suggested

soc-7
I am not exactly sure how I would do that? Any help would be great:) You can also turn off the AHCI setting in your BIOS before you boot over to XP. [integrated Peripherals: SATA AHCI Mode] This can be a workaround until you get AHCI installed. Change it back when you go to Mac. I have the same problem, but I barely use XP now! Too crusty! weaksauce12
Status Update: Good news! The new DS3L package is finalized. It replaces OpenHaltRestart from Psystar with VoodooPower from SuperHai (extra power savings). There are now 4 plugins: 1. DS3L - Full 2. DS3L - No Networking 3. DS3L - No Audio 4. DS3L - No Networking, No Audio This way, if you want to use a separate network card or sound card, you don't have to disassemble the plugin or dump the Mkext and rebuild it yourself. I am once again recommending a PCI network card (I like the $10.99 Encore Gigabit model) and a separate sound card (I like the $7.99 Syba USB stereo sound card). Neither are necessary, but due to driver bugs I recommend them for optimum system performance. The onboard network card works 100% thanks to the R1000 driver from Psystar, but it takes about 15 seconds to wake from sleep (this is annoying to me; I prefer instant wake for both the system and network, but this may not bug everyone haha). The onboard sound card also works (both analog 2.1 and digital 5.1), but there are underlying driver errors and can cause shutdown to take awhile (tries to kill the driver about 50 times before shutting down the system; boot with -v and then shutdown to see what I'm talking about). The next part is documentation. I'm finalizing the Wiki for the DS3L & UD3P boards and will start new threads for both when it's ready. The hard work is done, so it's just a matter of transferring the rest of the PDF guide to the Wiki and updating it with the latest instructions. Look for this coming Saturday for a full release (now that the hard work is done, I can say that with some confidence, haha).

This seems to apply to me as I'm a 8800GT user. I've been looking into the workarounds for that today. Yes, there are 2 10.5.6 mouse issues - a general jitter issue related to Quicktime, and then a more specific on related to 8x00-series card users. Not all 8x00-series card users are affected, but many are. I'd suggest staying with 10.5.5 until there is a solid fix (unless there's an existing workaround already). boum
Yup! Also, give me a detailed list of your hardware. Sorry for taking so much time replying, I have lacked free time to try this out until today. This looks very promising; I did precisely what you suggested and so far no display problems (and the added bonus of being up-to-date with 10.5.6). So, no unusual video bugs this time, only the usual {censored} iwth my 8400GS that is stuck at the blue screen when I change the resolution, which forces me to do a blind reboot. But it has been like that since the beginning and this problem does not show up with the old 6600. I learned to live with it. I have encountered some strange problems that seems related to accessing the DVD drive. Like right now, the system profile has hanged trying to display the Serial ATA section. On a previous occurence, Disk Utility would not finish detecting the drives while the Finder would be stalled trying to eject the DVD volume. Regarding the sound, the only thing that actually plays so far is the "sound alert preview" in the System Preferences, Sound panel. If I pick a different sound alert, I hear it. So far, nothing else comes out of the speakers, nothing from iTunes, and no tick-tick-tick when you raise or lower the volume via the keyboard. Edit: sounds works well for all apps - for some reason the System Preference Sound panel, Output tab, "device for sound output" was set to headphones. Picking Line Out and everything is fine. weaksauce12
Got the package done, you can download it here: (12mb) http://www.mediafire.com/file/ryyznyjgdtd/Win-DS3L.zip This is set up a little bit differently, so pay attention: the file you will download is called Win-DS3L.zip. This zip file contains 3 files: 1. BurnCD.exe 2. BootCD.iso 3. Mac-DS3L.zip The Win-DS3L.zip file is designed for those of you using Windows. It includes ImgBurn (BurnCD.exe), a free ISO image burning program, which allows you to burn the BootCD ISO image file to a blank CD or DVD. You can use this BootCD to boot, install, and setup Leopard. Once you're at the desktop, copy over the Mac-DS3L.zip file, unzip it, and follow the instructions like normal. If you are installing straight from a Mac, just unzip the Win-DS3L file, then unzip the Mac-DS3L file, and just use that. I packaged it this way for convenience - everything is one in package, no confusing multiple downloads to get. If you want to use the Leopard DVD and install from a Mac, you can just burn the BootCD with Disk Utility. This package contains the 4 plugins I mentioned before: 1. P35-DS3L Full 2. P35-DS3L No Audio 3. P35-DS3L No Network 4. P35-DS3L No Audio or Network If you just want to use onboard everything, use the "Full" package. If you have your own Sound Card, such as a USB, Firewire, or PCI sound card, select "No Audio". If you are using your own Network Card, such as a PCI Wireless card, PCI Gigabit card, or USB Ethernet adapter, select "No Network". If you are using your own Sound Card AND your own Network Card, select "No Audio or Network". Basically the Plugin contains drivers for the onboard audio & networking equipment, so by selecting these other plugins, it won't install drivers for those items and therefore won't conflict with your extra equipment. I am also recommending a tweak to the install procedure - basically, do the same install procedure as before, but don't bother installing any drivers until you've got 10.5.6 installed. Same goes for the Mac HDD-install. It's a tad more convenient this way, permissions-wise. Hacking away on the Wiki, hoping to have it wrapped up by Saturday. Should be a bit easier to navigate than the 60+ page PDF
boum
Got the package done, you can download it here: (12mb)[...] Ah weaksauce, your timing is perfect I was thinking about installing the full package directly on my current 10.5.6 system to see if this could help with the strange DVD problems and the not-really-working audio. Any reason not to do so? Should I remove the Taruga-patched audio thing before? Edit: I would assume that the fact that your files are for P35 motherboards while I have a EP-35 is good enough not to use that package !
