In light of the 10.5.6 bugs and subsequent hours of troubleshooting, I am planning on releasing the 10.5.5 guide on Wednesday evening. 10.5.5 is stable, mature, and my guide works perfectly with it. 10.5.6 doesn't offer any major feature enhancements and is giving me nothing but Kernel Panics. In addition, even real Mac users are reporting various errors:

I'm not very happy with the roadblocks I'm experiencing with 10.5.6, but I am extremely pleased with the 10.5.5 package and the stability and maturity this particular release offers. It completely tops all of my previous guides in terms of functionality and ease of installation. I'll update this Kalyway guide to 10.5.5 when I get some time this week, but I recommend jumping ship and going to BOOT-132 for better & easier Leopard on PC usage.

Regarding the future of this guide:

Please note that I'm not a guru or some magic, mystical OSx86 person. I'm just a dude with a DS3L board. These Leopard Soup guides are simply me sharing my method of doing OSx86 on the DS3L. That is all...nothing special about it, I just keep tinkering with things until they work. The 10.5.5 Guide has been a huge draw on my time (although fun!) and I don't know if I'll be writing guides beyond Leopard Soup 2.0. My schedule is pretty packed next semester (45 hours a week @ work + full-time college) and I'm personally pretty happy with 10.5.5, so I will probably call it quits here and enjoy my Hackintosh for the next couple of years. If something comes along and makes 10.5.6 work easily, I'll probably do an update for it, but beyond that don't count on me for updates. You may want to use another guide or learn Hackintosh more in-depth if you want to stay on top of updates. I will update my blog (see sig for link) when I feel like it, so you can check on updates there. So stay tuned for the 10.5.5 release tonight!

Cheers :)

Thank you so much for your time and effort!

I feel bad that you are struggling, because I know the feeling.. it just sucks that there really isn't a feasible way to downgrade, osx/osx86 is totally worth it though.

I went from a generally solid 10.5.5.. only instability was I think flash several versions would crash safari and firefox, and my audio had a pop.

10.5.6 update was smooth like I don't know what! Only changes have been your kext! for sata/ahci.. because my esata enclosure is picky I guess.. hd's still show up as external but who knows maybe it's always been like that?!?

Audio is flawless.. not as loud but it sounds cleaner.. um crossover runs Team Fortress 2 better also.

I just find it strange that something is off with your rig and not some of ours!

Heh would someone be kind and post

/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleUSBHub.kext

/System/Library/Extensions/IOUSBFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOUSBCompositeDriver.kext

from 10.5.5, please!

Oh I'm sure we'll get 10.5.6 working, but there's TONS of bug reports from real Mac users, which is the other thing holding me back. It'd most likely be better to (1) get 10.5.6 working, and (2) wait for an Apple bugfix patch to be released, before updating the guide. Plus this project has really been sucking up my time lately. I enjoy writing and this has turned into a 60+ page monster, plus a video tutorial and blog, not to mention countless PM's, IM's, E-mails, blog comments, 1000+ post thread, etc. etc. etc. It's simply taking up too much time in my life, and come next semester I'll have zero time for playing due to my schedule. So I'll get this pumped out and maybe 10.5.6 if I can get it going smoothly. Anyone want to take up the mantle? :)

btw here's my IOUSBFamily kext from .5:

Just updated to 10.5.6 after your boot-132 installation. Patched audio with Taruga patcher. Screen flickers a bit during windows Genie animations. My 3D CGI programs seems to run faster, but I've to run some comparative tests btw... I don't use realtek at all (I've a USR/Broadcomm card) so I never cared of it...

regarding the 10.5.6 update

i didnt use the DSDT.aml and it still worked fine, i just had to put in a disabler.kext

for some reason the dsdt disables my wireless card, and i went through a couple re-installations today to get it to work.

so basically what im saying is that i updated fine to 10.5.6

btw: is having orange drive icons bad? if so, how can i get rid of them?

and id be more than happy to test your boot-132 solution, since thats the method im using now

are you still having errors with your update weaksauce?

I got rid of my orange drive icon by changing AHCI to IDE but this is on 10.5.5.

yeah maybe i'll try that ^^^^^^

i have an issue where my dvd drive times out after inactivity while a disk is still inserted

when i go back to IDE mode its fixed

oh and i still can't get sleep to work (yeah i know on 10.5.6)

but i never had it work before

it always goes to sleep but never wakes up, all i get is a dark screen but i can hear the machine running

is this because of my video card (ATI 2600 PRO PCI-E w/Natit)?

or because im using a wireless keyboard (microsoft wireless keyboard for mac)

it does have its own kext btw

Weaksauce,

I just got a GA-45EP-UD3P to hackintosh around with (arrives tomorrow). Have you posted your kit with regards to that board yet or would you be interested in another tester? Happy to re-install several times :^)

Thanks,

Shawn

I'll be installing mine tomorrow :D

Done with finals, got the day off tomorrow, so I'll have to wrap up the DS3L 10.5.5 guide tomorrow (endless delays lol) and then start tinkering with the UD3P.

Also, this business about 10.5.6 breaking the ability to Pwn your iPhone doesn't sound too exciting to me either!

That isn't entirely true, As I posted my tests DFU still works on 10.5.6 (both Macs and hacks): http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1003863

Like shstevens, I ordered a UD3P recently. I just got it this morning. I can't wait to install it later tomorrow. Hopefully the plugin doesn't take too long (no rush, though!) so I can get my system up and running. PLEASE do contact me if you even need the slightest thing tested.

Thanks again, weaksauce!
