I get a Kernel Panic every time I boot on 10.5.6. Back to the drawing board, I guess.

I had to boot with -f to get the extensions to load in 10.5.6

Any word on the Audio. It seems that we need to mark taruga's AppleHDA kext as a higher version then 1.4.0...

Any ideas?

Thanks for all your help!

Do you still plan to release the guide tonight or you going to wait until you fix the kernel panic in 10.5.6?

Well, I can release the 10.5.5 guide now if you want, but it's not 10.5.6 compatible for some reason. So it's probably better just to wait until I find out why it's going haywire with the 10.5.6 update before releasing, so as to avoid confusion.

Hi mate. I don't know if this is too much of a newb idea but would it make a difference if you update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 via the combo update rather than through the 190mb software update?

I ask because my macbook failed to install 10.5.6 via software update and would lock up, so I downloaded the combo update and it worked fine.

Let me know if you have done it or not, because I will give it a go in a few hours - I have been away so have only got my macbook with me, the hack is at home. it is running the beta setup of the new guide also, so i can give it a shot unless you already have?

I've already tried every method - point & combo, upgrade from .5, straight upgrade after installation, etc. etc. etc. Despite having the dsdt file in place, there's a bug somewhere that I have to track down. It's just your typical uncooperative Apple update :(

Hey, WeakSauce. I'd just like :( to have the 10.5.5 guide for now to do a fresh install and get wifi networking working on my son's Hack. I am happy to do it all again for 10.5.6....

Hi, Weaksauce! No Kernel Panics here on my ga p35 ds3 v1 - everything runs smooth.

First read netkas news http://netkas.org/?p=78

I used the latest pcwiz tools to generate dsdt, install generic apple kext, PCEFI Bootloader and then installed the update with no errors. The System reboots twice, then i applied efistring for time machine, gfx and 889a+lan driver with osx86tools. System Profiler shows me the correct Cpu speed. No errors so far...

Maybe you should try it without Boot 132...

Good Luck

;)

The 10.5.6 update material has been in the package for over a month. I'm sure it's just an errant kext or something that is screwing things up, trying to track it down file-by-file right now.

Well, while my Hack likes Leopard better than my native Macs, it's significant that so many native Mac users are having "blue screens of death" with 10.5.6. I'm definitely a "wait 2-3 months to update the OS" on REAL Macs kind of guy (especially as I have to repair these for a living).

Also, this business about 10.5.6 breaking the ability to Pwn your iPhone doesn't sound too exciting to me either!

I'm amazed that they are futzing with USB after 2007 when silent updates to it killed a half-dozen of my clients' USB drives... disaster!

So my vote is to let 10.5.6 sort itself out :)

ps. then again, I am all for Weaksauce succeeding where the Apple engineers are failing! GO SAUCE!

Hey weeksauce...I'm running DS3L rev 1. from EFI partition and all is working fine. System was installed as following: 10.5 -> 10.5.5 using combo update and then to 10.5.6 using software update. There were no outstanding updates when I applied the 10.5.6 update. Only thing that broke on my end is the audio, but that's been resolved by applying Taruga's patch to /S/L/E. In 10.5.5 all kext were in EFI/Extensions and the install was 100% vanilla via Munky's EFI method.

Personally I think EFI partition is the way to go especially since the new Chameleon will support this type of installation. Let me know if I can help.

Hey mate, what do you mean the S/L/E ? I have Taruga appleHDA patcher v1.20 and applied it after successfully updating to 10.5.6 and it didn't work for me, still no audio. Everything else is working fine at the moment anyway.

Check -v, I get a lot of HDA errors on boot.

I had to apply the patch directly to /System/Library/Extensions (/S/L/E) folder. Currently, I'm using this by cparm, even though I have no way of testing 5.1 but it works. Use Kext Helper to install to /S/L/E. Hope it works for you!

I just did, although it was quite quick but I didn't see any stand out errors. Where abouts is the log kept so i can access it to go through it more thoroughly?

I do get the same assertion errors I got in 10.5.5, but the Audio is working. This is a known issue.

Dec 16 21:33:28 Beast kernel[0]: Sound assertion "0 != result" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-162.1.37/AppleHDA/AppleHDAWidget.cpp" at line 2508 goto handler

BTW, have to tried booting without DSDT? It make no difference for me. Currently, I'm not using it and system is still fully operational. Let me know if you want me to run any tests.

Yeah apparently DSDT really isn't needed :)

I used your final draft version then updated to 10.5.6 thru software update, the update file size was 377mb. Rebooted twice and all was running fine except for the audio but that was easy to fix just used taruga's patch.

But i am wondering about the kernel panics you mentioned which i am not getting. Perhaps could you tell me what you did before the kernel panics happened so that i may try and see if i am getting one?

Regards.

P.S i may post some screenshots later on....

Final draft is a bit old now. I had finally tweaked 10.5.5 to perfection and now I just get KP's on .6 lol. Oh well.
