Here is a link for the boot 132 method for this board (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=117834).

I am not exactly too sure about any differences ? It allows you to install a leopard retail disc on your PC (i.e. you don't need a hacked kalyway install disc), supposedly leopard doesn't break when you update it. I was hoping someone could enlighten me further, is it worth switching from kalyway to it.

Prior to installing the audio or video drivers, I could at least get to the Finder.

Holy smokes... I went out and bought myself one of these babies and now ALL - I do mean all - my problems have been solved. I guess Leopard really didn't like the chipset on my external USB enclosure very much at all.

My video card is working properly, sound is working, everything.

I partitioned my 640gb into two partitions so far: 200gb and the rest :) Coming from the Windows world I really have no idea how I should size the partitions - I got tons more reading and researching ahead of me.

One thing's for sure, I'm stoked and I can definitely see myself using Mac OS regularly!

Thanks again weaksauce for the guide. :D

I'm keenly interested in 10.5.5 - since people are reporting "dramatic" graphics improvements - especially in games like World of Warcraft, which I do play on the mac.

I have a real 24" iMac and did a software upgrade to 10.5.5 and it's true - Wow went from 24 fps average to over 60 in Shattrath! Holy {censored} - it's like a whole new video card.

On my 3 Hackintoshes (Weaksauce p35 rigs with 10.5.4) I'm very interested in a safe upgrade route to 10.5.5 that includes the new nvidia / opengl optimizations. Anyone have success yet?

Can someone make 1 thing clear?

If I dont install CHUD.pkg will my CPU be utilized fully (I mean Quad Core) what if I do?

I have tried the new kernel (fixing shutdown restart) IT is working but on random, sometimes Shutdown stops working but restart works, sometimes opposite. Ive very pissed off and Im thinking about switching back to using CHUD + fixes.

Th new kext woked yesterday but today already shut down didnt work.

Yeah Shutdown is shady, it only works for me part of the time. It's a crummy solution, but it's better than nothing! Installing CHUD with the PowerOff Fix only disables one core on Shutdown, not while your computer is running - you still get all 4 cores while your machine is running!

just updated to 10.5.5 and no issues so far but only thing is to reinstall the sound drivers. Now hw do i change my orange drives back to original colour?

Gotcha covered! Kit + instructions here:

I'll be posting a 10.5.5 update mini-guide tomorrow. Doing some more testing tonight just to make sure everything is peachy ;)

I'll catch up on the rest of the questions here in the thread tomorrow as well, I have the day off (whoohoo!) so I'll have some time to post the updates and whatnot as well.

Weaksauce12

Please would like to know your opinion regarding this, Iam tired of reinstalling:(

What do u think is better between this kexts with shady shutdown or CHUD+ patches? Im thinking bout going back to CHUD may take 2-3 secs longer but at least it does the job. Or am I wrong and better stay on this new kext with randomly working shutdown.

One more thing I heard u were working with mainboard that have ALC889A codec please let me know if u get the mic working, I have tried many kexts no luck so far.

Thx weaksauce12

Awesome! Would it be safe to use the guide for EP35-DS3L users as well?
That's probably best asked in the EP35 thread....but since you ask....

When weaksauce12 puts out the guide, I'll clone my existing 10.5.4 set up, try out 10.5.5 on my EP35 and let everyone know. Or if you do it first, certainly post back to let us know.

weaksauce12 has asked that we try to keep EP35 discussion off this thread (for now). Perhaps with the release of his guide for 10.5.5 I can poll the EP35 users and see what their experience is like, and if it proves good perhaps the EP35 can be "unofficially" officially supported by this guide.

Thanks A LOT. You've done a terrific job here.

I have a Gigabyte GA31M-S2L and this guide worked like a charm (currently on 10.5.4).

Complete specs:

Gigabyte GA31M-S2L (Intel P31)

Intel E2200 Dual Core 2.2Ghz 800Mhz

2Gb DD2 667

2x SATA2 (MacOS / WinXP)

IDE DVD Burner

Intel GMA3100

iMac Aluminum/White Keyboard

Everything worked right out of the box, including volume slider and all function keys from my iMac Keyboard (Volume, dashboard, eject, etc etc)

I didn't install any graphic kexts because I'm getting a VGA later today, probaly a Gigabyte Radeon X1950PRO 256Mb.

Only minor issues by now seems to be the screensaver failure at System Preferences, I can only use the default "Flurry" one, when I try to choose another one I got an error message about bundles, and my USB thumb drive not being recognized (my external USB Hard Disk works fine).

Looking forward to the 10.5.5 update guide.

Cheers

Ooops, sorry about that, I'll keep it in the EP35 thread.

I haven't tried cloning yet so I'm not sure how it works, but it's in the guide so I may give it a go B)

I have questions about the cloning section - My 640gb hd is divided into 2 partitions so far (200gb "MacOS" and 440gb "Storage").

I followed the cloning guide in the first post, used superduper to clone "MacOS" to "Storage", installed Chameleon to "Storage", and input the fdisk commands to make "Storage" active.

I then rebooted and got a HFS+ Partition Error.

After another reboot, I got back into Leopard but I seem to believe it has booted off my "Storage" partition, because I made it active - is this correct? I noticed spotlight had to re-index...

So I realize these are probably a dumb questions :( , but when / how am I supposed to use the cloned partition? Should I, and can I, switch back to my MacOS partition for booting? (I assume I would just use the same fdisk commands to revert the booting drive.)

I haven't set up Time Machine yet...

Apologies in advance if my questions are too trivial and/or stupid (which they probably are), but this is the first time I've used Mac OS in 20 years... :(

PS. Is there a way in Leopard to determine which drive/partition I have booted off of?

WeakSauce, thanks for this great post, it's awesome man, looking forward the 10.5.5 update guide :censored2:

Only 1 problem, I've installed the audio like you said and with your kext and patcher, but in some apps the sound works wrong, like Adium have some cuts in the sound when someone logs in and in VLC the movies have a persistant cutting., any idea?

Thanks

Just wanted to add that 5.1 (DTS, Dolby, etc) works perfect via coax on my DS3L. As a matter of fact, I'm typing this on my HTPC that I got up and running just a few hours ago. No configuration necessary for 5.1, other than setting output to digital out. I've only test 5.1 using Plex, and verified 2.1 to work with iTunes.

The guide worked well for me except for Kext installation, where I used pcwiz's tools instead. Thanks to both weaksauce12 and pcwiz.

I am planning to put a system based on this guide together but I am not sure which graphic card I should get. I would like one with a good amount of power (good enough for running Fallout 3 at decent settings when it is released) but I would also like to make sure it isn't going to block the second PCI-e slot. Any suggestions? My price range is up to $250 or so.

Ooh...most heavy-duty graphics cards (for gaming) fill up two slots. What are you planning on using your PCI-e slots for?

Also to everyone else, I got in a bit late and I'm tinkering away here, I'll try to post a mini-guide for 10.5.5 tonight and then the rest next week so we can get things rolling :)

Already tried this way, the system stopped after the "itunes" something line and had to time machine it all...
