willpower101
Hi all, can someone please inform me the compatability of a 8600 GT (512mb model). I have that card. GDDR3, nvidia manufactured. (although I wish it was a reputable off brand like evga or something cause the stock hs sucks!) Anyway, It works fantastic and fully supports dual monitor dvi output with the drivers listed in the beginning of this guide. OK I've managed to resolve the majority of my issues (sound/video stuttering and slow clock) by installing chameleon, but i still can't get the dual monitor setup to work. Any suggestions? May I asked what steps you use to install chameleon, what point you do it at, and where you get the files? I have a Q9300 cpu and I must have chameleon to fix all the issues it has with pc_efi. DTPHawk
willpower101 To be honest I really didn't know what i was doing, but for reference i followed this guide to the step. Then afterward i tried everything to fix those issues. Including EFI Studio for graphics and sound. When all was said and done i read in another post that Chameleon would resolve the issues (stuttering sound/video/slow system clock) and they had a link to the file. I've attached it to this post. Just extract/mount/install/reboot and everything should be fixed. Good luck. Another side note, for anyone who cares. I resolved my issues with the eVGA 7200GS video card by editing the NVCap. Dual monitors are fully operational now. Very simple. Chameleon.dmg.zip
craigolio
Thank you to those who provided feedback regarding the odd problem in trying to install Windows XP on a system using this board after the BIOS settings were set per the directions in the first post of this thread (Weaksauce's guide). I am happy to announce success in installing XP now: 1) I reset all bios settings to default -- no AHCI and no native mode on SATA drives. 2) I installed Windows XP 3) I followed the instructions on this web page: hxxp://www.msfn.org/board/The-compiled-FAQ-and-guide-thread-t121503.html&p=785969#entry785969 4) I re-set all of the bios settings to what weaksauce directed us to do. 5) I booted into Windows (at which time it 'found new hardware, and allowed installation of the driver that is modified by following the directions on the page referenced in #3) 6) I re-booted again into windows (just to be sure), and then finally, 7) I booted back into my super-stable, fast hackintosh 8) Patted myself on the back (a step I have learned from weaksauce). I was surprised to see what an ordeal it is just to install XP on this board while setting the sata drives to AHCI. So I hope that my findings will help someone else along the way. Thanks again! sup3r1or
Just to give you an update of my situation:S I broke my new HDD (was an acident) bought a new one but lost all 350gb of data. Now I devoded whole 500gb for leopard formated as GUID updated to 10.5.4 installed chameleon and all fixes but now the Restart/Shutdown isnt working. Why ? I did install the weaksauce12's fix. ______________ The vista cannot install now gives me windows cannot install to disc the selected disc is gpt partition error. Anyone knows how to fix this? I mean is it because I use Disk Util to format?
dci693
Another side note, for anyone who cares. I resolved my issues with the eVGA 7200GS video card by editing the NVCap. Dual monitors are fully operational now. Very simple.I have the same card, and though it's doubtful I'll be using dual displays (my single 24" LCD is enough for now) it's good to know it can work. Do you have a link or instructions on how to do this? Thanks.
Johnny V
I went to the hardware compatibly page and searched for the 7200GS graphics card. Found this 7200GS info: Works with NVinject & mod: "NVCAP" = <04000000000009000e0000000000000700000000> for dual display. To change the NVCAP you need PList Pro to do it! willpower101
Interesting - I have the Q9450 CPU and have no issues just following weaksauce's guide... Patrick Yeah it's weird, but a documented problem here on this forum. The q9450 actually doesn't have the problem and was listed as an alternative. It has something to do with random penryn chips and pc_efi. No one know what the problem is though, just that going to chameleon seems to work. I hear chameleon's better anyway, i'm just not keen on reinstalling. @weaksauce12 - Maybe you should edit your guide to install chameleon instead? narin
First off, thanks for this tutorial. I've had OS X up and running for a few days now without problems, but now it hangs on the PCI Devices Listing when booting. I believe it has something to do with my video card (EVGA 8600GT 256mb). I tried to run Half Life 2 (torrented) and it would just hang at a black screen. I was able to force quit out of it. I tried to run it a second time unsuccessfully, and after I force quit it again, my screen was all tinted all blue and I could somewhat see the interface if I looked very closely, enough to be able to reboot. Ever since, then, it has been hanging at the PCI Devices Listing boot screen. Any ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated.

I have counter strike source running flawlessly via crossover. But I don't think i did anything special other than follow the guide stock and install it to default locations via xover. sup3r1or
Can sobody answer only one question? Getting desperate it is starting to upset me more and more Iam considering giving up in this quest. Got 2nd HDD installed systems on separate drives. FORMATED OSX HDD 1 parition GUID table, chosed SLEEP KERNEL. RESTART AND SHUT DOWN DOESNT WORK AT ALL! Right after the install!!!!!! Upon updating to 10.5.3 LEOPARD FREEZES DURING BOOTING SCREEN THE CIRCLE IS SPINNING AND IT NEVER BOOTS UP. Can things get any worse? My only guess can it be due GUID partition? (when I had leo running along vista on MBR I never had this problem). Can be something in the BIOS? Please Iam so pissed off aleady i cant get it to work:(
swilso
Sup3r1or I don't know if this helps, I have only ever installed zephyroth on a phenom system. I am yet to put together my P35-DS3L system, but I have pretty thoroughly read weaksauces guide and I have noticed when you install the 10.5.3 combo guide it needs to be installed in a particular manner, I noticed he said this can stop your system from restarting/shutting down ... This is copied from weaksauces first (tutorial) post - sorry its not APA style referencing 1. Run "1_Kalyway_UpdCombo10.5.3.pkg". When it finishes, it will ask you to restart. Do NOT restart yet! 2. With the previous program still open, run "2_kalyway_10.5.3_kernel.pkg". 3. Do NOT select ANY of the Kernels listed. By leaving them unchecked, it will keep the Sleep kernel we installed during the 10.5.2 installation - this is needed for proper restart/shutdown. 4. Once it is done installing, click Close. 5. Go back to the first application window and click the Restart button. 6. It will reboot twice. Just let it sit (usually under 10 minutes) until you get back to the Leopard desktop. Verify that you are running 10.5.3 by clicking "About This Mac" in the Apple Menu. Test out restart and shutdown to ensure that they are working properly. Maybe you did what he said not to do in step 3 by checking a kernel and overriding the sleep kernel ????
sup3r1or
Swilso I have installed Leo numerous times:) I mean using this guide and it always worked but this time it doesnt. I mean straight out of the box when I first boot in leopard after install the restart and shutdown is not working already. Upon installing 10.5.3 update I did like it says 1 then 2 then restart. By default none of the kexts are selected in the 2nd update. this is something else, I want to try to convert parition ot MBR and see what will happen. Iam quite surprized I never had this issue using kalyway 10.5.2 DVD , I was with iAtikos the very first one. This is my 2nd re-intall in the same day the previous attempt (the restart was working till I installed 10.5.4) and all weaksauce12's fixes and kexts from kext packages as well as restart fix from Vanilla folder). After that could not restart.

Those, I think, are the 3 biggest reasons why sleep/shutdown/restart might not work.
sup3r1or
In BIOS according to tutorial, however there is one extra feauture in my bios Onboard SATA controller (belive from Gigabyte) there are choices IDE, AHCI and Disabled (if put ide it says all sata will function as an IDE mode). Bout memory Iam sure since I was running it before and windows as well have no problems. GPU is GeForce 9800GTX. I believe it have something to do with HDD or partition grid, because I used to run Leopard from the same CD with no problems, when I had it on the same drive as vista using MBR grid. Since I installed new HD and used GUID this {censored} started to happen. Before that all worked flawless.

I downloaded and installed that chameleon you attatched and when I restarted I get: boot0: MBR boot0: done BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl +Alt+Del to restart EDIT: FIXED! booted back into the startup disk, ran repair permissions twice and it found a bunch of errors. When ahead and ran repair disk for the hell of it and it came out OK. Rebooted and went straight into osx My Boot ROM version under System Profiler>hardware is now IM71.007A.B01 (I assume chameleon) where as before it had something to do with V8.0 (when it was pc_efi) Still can't monitor cpu temps with temperature monitor, but all the sound, video, and related issues went away and I still have sleep and restart.
