Thanks pcwiz! :(

Big testing day today, adding some new features, overclocking info & utilities, etc. The package is mostly done, just need to finish up a couple tools for it. Doing testing & documentation today to finish fleshing out the guide. New methods are super super super easy & fast!

ETA = Saturday, December 13th, 2008 :D

Awesome, thanks weaksauce12 and bibendum.

I'm going to go ahead and order one up. I just had a couple more quick questions... 1) With all the latest updates coming to the Boot-132 guide is the USB sound card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035) going to be needed? and 2) If I'm running a 500GB hard drive, what size would you recommend for a time machine backup drive? From what i gather, apple recommends about twice the size of your current drive. So i take it that would mean i need to pick up at least a 1TB drive correct? Thanks again for the input.

Yes and no. Taruga still works for onboard audio, but I'd recommend a USB sound card all the same. It just makes life simpler - you don't have to re-install Taruga after every major point update. For $8, it was worth it to me.

Technically double is good, but also keep in mind it only copies your files. So even if you have a 500gb drive, your files only take up a few gigs. The thing that sucks up hard drive space is achiving older files that get changed. So if you have a copy of your resume on your desktop today, it backs it up, then if you change it tomorrow, it backs that up too. 1TB hard drives are $99 now, which is an extremely good price, so there's no reason not to get one. I recommend the Samsung F1 1TB 7200rpm SATA drive.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a pci firewire card for these systems? I just picked up an apple isight web cam and am looking for a cheap way to get it hooked up.

I'm also looking to upgrade my EVGA 7200GS 256MB video card to an XFX 8600GT XXX Edition 256MB from another pc. Does anyone have any experience with this card or recommendations on swapping them out? My plan is to wait for the new guide and do a complete re-install and swap out the video cards and install the new firwire card, all at once. Does this sound reasonable?

I got a Zonet ZFN2601 from eWIZ for $12 shipped did the job perfectly... I read on one of the other articles it has to have a VIA chip my first two firewire cards from my PC collection did not work at all.

As I mentioned before, I recently spilled water onto my hackintosh (ugh!) and I'm figuring out what parts I need to replace. I was hoping you guys could help me verify the compatability of the following system. The catch is that I listed all the parts twice. The first item under each category is the one that I currently have (which I will use if it isn't fried) and the second item is the part I will replace it with if the current is actually fried.

What I really need to know is if these parts will work (well!) with the guide. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for better parts than the one's I've listed, please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.

Motherboard:

GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L (once they are back in stock at newegg on the 10th)

(The dead one was a P5W DH Deluxe)

Processor:

Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz (current) newegg

Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz (potential replacement) newegg

Video card:

EVGA GeForce 7600GT 256MB (current) newegg

MSI GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB (potential replacement) newegg

RAM:

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin 800 (current; 4 x 1gb sticks) newegg

(haven't looked into a potential replacement yet... probably 8 gigs of something)

Power Supply:

My current 460W shouldn't have any trouble running this, should it?

Your power supply will do just fine. Why go with the 2x1GB? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145184 go with 4GB, its cheaper than ever.

lol that macpalace7 ebay seller raised his P35-DS3L prices to $99 per board. this thread must be getting popular ;)

FYI the Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3L works EXACTLY THE SAME with the F5 BIOS as the P35 is with the F7 BIOS. No reason to get the P35 anymore unless you find a good deal on it!

Yup requires F5. The package has the proper BIOS file as well as a flashing guide. What went wrong before?

Another bios question, I have a GA-P35-DS3L (rev. 2.0) with the f8 bios. Will I have to downgrade to F5? also I see there is a beta 9 bios available.

Looking forward to your new guide on Saturday, I am planning to upgrade my disks and am going to use your guide been though I have been using mthotho's guide without a single problem since February.

The flashing seemed to go properly, and then got stuck in power on-power off loop. No post screen, nothing.

I hope you didn't try to update the BIOS in windows! Did you do it through Q-Flash ?

Nope. unless it is the ds3L.

I think pcwiz had a good guide for GA-P35 boards, otherwise maybe this might help ..

The 1-Click app has a built-in Plugin Maker. All you have to do is add your Kexts and voila, out pops a plugin :hysterical:

I know everyone wants me to support their board, but the fact is I only have a P35-DS3L. You have to do extensive testing and make board-specific files like the DSDT dump for your board, from your board - I can't do it on mine because it requires the board itself to be running OS X to make the DSDT file. The simple fact is that I can't support everyone because I don't have access to every board. But, thanks to PCWiz's awesome programming prowess, you can easily make your own plugin! :hysterical:
