Weaksauce12,

Its about time:) I know how u feel though, my schedule screwed up badly with work and study same time and it is going to get worse.

I havent been here lately but as I can see nothing new so far? Did I miss anything? Iam still running 10.5.5.

I got the microphone jack working on ALC 899A finally. ( the back one though, the front is not working at all).

Listen one question do you use any maintenance utils for OSX? I tried ONyx but at some point it screw up my OSX in the meaning that my keyboad and mouse stopped working:( I had to replug them.

I got it solved for now, but wondering if there are any better appzs?

Would appreciate if you could post back up guide

Nope, I don't use any sort of maintenance utilities for Leopard. If you're concerned about it, just use the Maintidget dashboard widget to (1) tell you when the last time the maintenance scripts were run and (2) let you force-run the scripts at your leisure:

http://www.giantmike.com/widgets/Maintidget.html

The Backup Guide will include Backup (Time Machine & SuperDuper), Cloning (SuperDuper), and Migration Assistant (HDD-based & Time Machine).

Congrats sup3r1or with getting the microphone working as I remember that was a biggy for you...was the back microphone working all the time?

I use Cocktail as a maintenance program. No problems.

I guess it was working the whole time:)

But the front one still not working, I have another issue though, The BitTorrent is insanely slow about 6kb/sec, when on Vista I get 200kb on the same torrent. Still have no solution:(

I head many people said the 10.5.5 done quite an increase for performance:) but I kind a noticed a slowdown specially when you oppen appz sometimes takes long to open.

Well I was able to remove Nvinject not through Macdrive7, I had problems with macdrive (couldn't get it to work anymore) so I just reinstalled OSX on a seperate backup 250GB hard drive and decided to mess around with the NVinject Kexts on my main OSX disk... and so I fixed it!!! But now how do I install some damn GPU drivers...?

I have purchased the EFI-X dongle as well as a complete set of components chosen from the EFI HCL. My goal is to build a multi-OS machine for testing software.

I can find very little information on the partitioning process that will lead to compatibility with the EFI-X dongle and installation of these OSs. I would like to end up with a multiboot system on a single 1Tb HD, with the ability to boot to any of WinXP, Win Vista 32, Win Vista 64, SuSE Linux, and OSX OSs.

My hardware is:

Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R

Intel Quad Core Q9550 2.83Gb CPU

8Gb RAM

Seagate 1Tb Drive

NVidia Geforce 8800GTS 512mb Graphics card

Will use the onboard I/O on the Motherboard for ethernet, USB, Firewire, and audio.

So what sequence of partitioning and OS installation should I pursue, and what OS or partition manager should I use with the EFI-X dongle? Are there any problems with the choice of Format for the various partitions?

If multi os booting is not doable, or too high risk, I would like to end up with at least the Win Vista 64 and OSX systems installed on the single machine. IF that is the goal, what should be the sequence of partition, formatting and OS installation on a single HD?

I have available multiple SATA smaller drives. Would a multidrive system, ie a single smaller drive for each OS make the OS installations more reliable or efficient than different partitions on a single HD? And if so, does the sequence of OS installation make a difference?

Any help will be appreciated!

Which BT app are you using?

Are you using Onboard Ethernet or a separate card?

I'd suggest heading over to the official EFI-X forums; the mods here at IM prefer to keep the boards dedicated to free, open-source solutions (and rightly so). Here's a link:

EFI-X has a very good boot manager, so you can install all of your OS's on a single drive. I would wait until the next firmware update to do your installations though; currently XP only is only supported on FAT32 partitions, but that may change to also support NTFS partitions for XP with the next firmware update (hopefully).

OK, I've put myself in a bit of a pickle and I'm really hoping someone can help me out.

Had everything up and running great, but I went and installed XP to a second, IDE hard drive, thinking I could change HD boot priority to change OS.

What happened is XP won't see the SATA drive unless I turn off SATA native mode and when I try to boot OSX partition i get "Disk Error press any key to reboot"

I think my install on the SATA drive is fine, I just can't access it correctly, like installing XP borked my BIOS. :(

Hi,

i've built another hackintosh for a friend using weaksauce's guide and updated the system to 10.5.4 using the delta update.

trouble is he has somehow managed to get a malware (mobile me malware) which has resulted in stopping a lot of applications from working properly.

Symptoms:

a) vlc doesnot work

:P desktop background doesn't change even after selecting the option

c) there is a window mobile me which constantly pops up with this message: your mobile me user password has changed, please put in your new password. i can't force quit it nor there is any change on the no. of proceses.

i am still scratching my head how the hell do i get rid of this malware? should i install mac version anti virus? will security update from apple be a good idea or will it break the system?so far all my research has turned fruitlesss so i thought may be you guys could throw in some opinions...

thanks

:smoke:

Got it off ebay haha. Yeah, I was kind of mad because I tried the EP35-DS3L on a friends PC, and Sleep didn't work, Well, I mean it did, I just had to refresh DHCP every time. So I asked myself, what really is the difference between the two boards? Absolutely nothing, So I bought the P35 version off ebay. It came sealed and in original manufacturer packaging.

Here's the auction link: Ebay Listing For P35-DS3L

I am very happy I bought this board :)

any idea how i can install my logitech webcam 5000pro? any drivers available?

thanks.

Try Macam:

http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/

To everyone: It appears that 10.5.6+ changes the audio system and our current sound driver may not work. I would advise picking up a USB sound card.

Also, inching closer to the next release :(

I need a couple EP35 testers. Please send me a PM if you're interested. You'll need need a spare drive among other things.

Quick heads-up, Codeweavers is giving away Crossover for Mac for free tomorrow (Tues, 28-Oct-2008):

http://www.tuaw.com/2008/10/27/codeweavers...tware-tomorrow/

Long story short, they said if gas prices in Minneapolis got down to $2.79, they'd give away free copies for a day. Oops, the market collapsed. Be sure to jump on this - this is the professional version of Crossover and includes support for games! I use Crossover for Mac Professional right now with my copy of Office XP for Windows - it's much faster than booting up VMware and is perfect for staying compatible with the rest of the world. Here's their website:

http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/

A database of compatible programs:

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/

Basically Crossover creates a "bottle" for the application, which lets you run the application without actually booting into Windows. You don't need a Windows license and you can add the Windows program icon to your dock, click it, and it will open the app pretty quickly! For example, I use Word XP (2002) because it's fast, I'm familiar with it, and it's compatible with school, work, etc. I have the Word for Windows icon sitting in my dock and I just click it and it launches a few seconds later! It's very similar to Unity mode in VMware or Coherance in Parallels, except you don't actually have to boot up Windows.

Be sure to get your free copy tomorrow ;)

Thank You for comprehensive guide dear Professor! I have Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R version of motherboard. Can You consult me and other owners about tricks how to install native Leo and update it up to 10.5.5. ?

Follow this guide:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;hl=GA-P35-DS3R

Then update using the Netkas method posted previous in this thread. That will probably work, although I can't say for sure because I don't have a DS3R.

Need a wireless card? Here's an internal 802.11n PCIe card for $40 shipped:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Wireless-1505-802...4QQcmdZViewItem

Shows up as an Airport card, 100% compatible according to reports. Only downside is it takes a couple weeks to ship to the US ;)

Does this mean it doesn't have issues when waking from sleep?

Okay team, here's the plan:

1. After much testing, the Netkas method seems like the best way to go - it works for the largest majority of the people. I am going to release the 10.5.5 guide on Monday. If you have any issues with the Netkas method I outline, please post back on the thread here and we will work together to resolve them. I'm cleaning the guide up in PDF format so that it will be easier to follow as well. I most likely won't be supporting this guide after 10.5.5 because...

2. After extensive testing and thanks to the masterful efforts of Stella, we now have a 100% compatible BOOT132 system! I've been waiting a long time for BOOT132 to mature to the point where we could use it; now it's ready! Onboard Ethernet now works 100%. PS/2 works 100%. Sleep, Restart, Shutdown, Time Machine, USB, DVD - everything works, no bugs. It's super easy to install. This has been tested perfectly on many, many P35-DS3L systems, but I don't have enough EP35-DS3L testers yet - if you're willing to give it a try, shoot me a PM!

Caveats with the BOOT132 system: Only the legacy ports are not supported - IDE, Parallel, and Serial (you can get a USB enclosure for your IDE drive and PCI cards for Parallel and Serial if you need them, so it's a non-issue). Using IDE drives will give you a kernel panic and terribly poor performance; using the onboard Parallel and Serial ports causes major glitches with Leopard. You cannot use Migration Assistant or Time Machine restore to copy over your old Kalyway-based Hackintosh hard drive or backup drive to the BOOT132 system because it will ruin the retail install - both methods copy the Hackintosh sub-systems and mess a lot of things up, so you'll have to re-install your apps and copy your files over manually. 10.5.6 changes a lot of sub-systems, so it may be a little while before the BOOT132 system is updated to work properly with it. Also, the developers are saying that 10.5.6 changes the audio sub-system and may break onboard audio, and if not will cause a lot of errors. For 10.5.6, you may consider getting a separate sound card (USB, Firewire, PCI, or PCIe). I have an $8 Syba USB analog stereo sound card from Newegg that works nicely.

So Monday will take care of the 10.5.5 update for the Kalyway method and will probably be the final update to this version of the DS3L guide. If you're interested in continuing it, please shoot me a PM. My efforts will now be focused on the BOOT132 system. It's perfect, it's beautiful, it's wonderful, I love it! Look forward to a new thread for the BOOT132 method soon after my 10.5.5 Kalyway update :)
