I just followed your guide step by step... and it was Friggin amazing.... my hat is off to you.... Great job.

This is my third hackitosh the others worked what I thought was well but I had issues with double booting or hanging on shut down...

This is a dream................. I am sad to say a a PC dude that this was easy to load than Vista on my gaming system...

One little hangup I had was the Kext HelperB7 requires that you have a password.. on my last few system I have left that blank as I secure sites and access at a server level.

Thank you very much Weaksause12... you are truly da bomb

Awesome, glad to hear your machine works well!

It's actually not Kexthelper that requires a password, it's Leopard - you can do a manual installation of the kext, but you'll have to type in your system password to authenticate - Kexthelper just makes it easier for you, no messy command-line stuff in Terminal

Don't know yet. Common factors:

-EP35 boards particularly prone to issues (kernel panics, etc.)

-Systems with IDE drives prone to issues

-Systems with 4GB RAM prone to issues

The 4GB RAM issue could be, in fact, the IDE issue. Don't know yet. Personally I've got 3 extremely stable P35 rigs up and running, 100% SATA, with between 2 and 8 gigs of RAM, no issues whatsoever. I want to track these down before I release the next guide update!

FWIW, I do have an EP35 board - I do not have an IDE drive and IDE is disabled in BIOS. I did NOT have issues until I repaired permissions...

Okay, now this is just weird. I tested my 2 gig stick - no errors. Swapped it with the other stick. Tested again. No errors. Put in both sticks - 4GB total... tested and... wait for it....

no errors.

Everything is running just as before. Go figure.

You mention problems with 4gb of RAM, but I notice in a few of your signatures (including your's weaksauce12) that you are running 8gb. Do you have any stability problems with 8gb?

No problem with 8GB of RAM. Of course I'm not using the specific motherboard in this thread.

The only issue the computer has is on shutdown with external firewire drives running. Either a kernel panic will occur or computer will restart. To get around that I just have to remember to dismount the firewire drives and turn off the power. Problem started going from 10.5.2 to 10.5.3. Not worth reinstalling the whole system...no biggy!

Probably just a glitch!

When the problem first occurred did you take out both sticks and reseat them? As mentioned the ram stick might have been bumped just enough to lose contact. Not sure how as the locks on both ends of the ram are pretty secure, but strange things can happen.

Yah - my first thing was to reseat the RAM and the SATA connections (to no avail)...

My system also has 4 G ram and IDE but no issue so far. Also I use the integrated lan and I can do spleep, shutdown and all. Lan works after sleep as intended. But on a friend machine same board, maybe diferent ram, but still 4G we didn't managed even to install. I was saying faild to validate the contents of some esential packages. Tried multiple times with and without dvd checking .. .same issue  Searched on the net and seems to be ram related ? I don't think is a specific 4 GB problem, it's more like a bad batch of ram or something.
The only time I've seen a message similar to that was when I forgot to use Disk Utility to format a partition as HFS+ for Leopard. Instead I told kalyway to install on a FAT32 disk.

OK, so Chameleon EFI does nothing to fix any problems I'm having with ga-ep35 and a e8500 45nm intel chip, like jittery sound, and slow clock.

Anyone else have these problems and actually solve them?

I thought there was a time fix posted awhile back in this thread, if I find it I'll link you.

Are you running the F5 BIOS?

I've got pretty much the same system as weaksauce, but I'm having far more trouble... am using Kalyway 10.5.2 dvd.

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L

8gb 800mhz ram

NEC IDE DVD/RW drive

Installing onto an older Samsung 150gb spinpoint drive (sata1, not sata2)

Intel Core2Duo E6850

eVGA 9600GT (nvidia)

Dell 2005fpw lcd (1680x1050)

Internal wireless atheros card (cheap netgear one available @ bestbuy)

Installation runs smoothly; I'm able to create an HFS+ extended volume w/ journaling just fine. It passes all the verification tests within the Disk Utility. The problem comes when I reboot the system post-installation...

If I configure the bios to use AHCI, I don't even get to the darwin boot-loader. It just hangs until I get the "non-system disk" bios error.

If I disable AHCI, I get the darwin boot loader. With no arguments, the grey apple graphic screen shows up, the spinner starts cycling, but I *always* wind up w/ the 4-language "You must restart" kernel panic error.

When I use -v at the boot prompt, I don't see anything obviously wrong... it gets to about the mDNS bit, then never moves forward from that line.

I've tried many different permutations of:

-x

-v

cpus=1

maxmem=2048

platform=X86PC

and nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Hi all

I earlier wrote about a problem regarding sleep on this system.

Well Fixed the problem by swapping my MSI-RX2600XT for a XFX8000GTS :( . So dont go the MSI route...........

I´m running 4 GB ram with no trouble so far, just to ad a comment on the thread about this.

Seems stable like a rock @ 3Ghz right now, runs everything i throw at it , and runs i faasssst :( . Cores idle at 30 degres, and about 60 degres at full load (goodbye IMAC, keep the macbook PRO)

There is one small problem tough, that would be nice to get fixed. After sleep it shows a warning for "Device Removal, the device you removed was not properly put away ........................"

Anyone got the solution for this ?

Nice!

Do you have a card reader with a card plugged in? Are you running the Vanilla kernel? Have you installed the AHCI kexts from my download package?

Just a quick status update:

1. Testing IDE/4GB + some apps (WOL etc) this weekend, trying to kill the bugs

2. Working on the next guide update (Video Guide + a new goodie)

3. Writing out the Time Capsule guide

As always, things are taking a bit longer than I thought :P But things are progressing steadily, chipping away a bit every day. Bug fixing and the next guide update are the top priorities, then I'll whip out the Time Capsule guide. I have a few more nifty guides in the pipeline as well, but those are still under wraps :thumbsdown_anim:

This happens to me whenever I have a USB drive (flash or hard) plugged in when the system goes to sleep.

Hi there,

Anyone know a good reliable source to find a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev 2.0 mainboard? Being that it's out of production this isn't exactly easy to acquire. Looks like many are Rev 1.0 and it's hard to be certain with many internet vendors. Looks like the local Frys have been out for awhile. I'd like to buy from a reputable vender. All suggestions appreciated. Also finding a BFG 8800GTS isn' t that easy either and any pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Can't wait to assemble my hackintosh.

eWiz sells Rev 2.0 boards from what I've heard, even though their website says it's 1.0 (4 USB ports). macpalace7 on eBay sells them as well.

Hi

"Do you have a card reader with a card plugged in? Are you running the Vanilla kernel? Have you installed the AHCI kexts from my download package?"

Its curently a Wester Digital Mybook USB harddisk and a Cruzer Memorystick i tried with. I do belive, that i installed all the kexts. But ill try to download them again, to be sure that its the latest and greatest.

Is there any problem to installing kexts "onto" the old kexts, im no real mac guru (yet :-). Only had Mac for over half a year, and Windows/DOS computer for over 20 years, but NEVER going back to Windows :) .

Followed the guide step by step. I upgradede and running 10.5.4 (about this mac, tells me also), so i belive it must be the vanilla kernel running. Where can i check kernel version ?

Weaksauce,

As you know, i have an extremely stable build right now. Handles everything i throw at it. Now, with this in mind, is there a way to change my current Kalaway install into a retail install without any major changes (ie reinstalling everything). Just wondering if this was a possibility. I am completely happy with my build but of course, the peace of mind that comes with a retail install is worth the question. I've read the other threads but none of them are very clear and seeing as how you have a gift of "Barney-fying" things, i thought i'd ask.

AFAIK, you have to do a Retail install from scratch. I don't really see the point...my Kalyway install works perfectly, and I just need a few patches and drivers that I'd need anyway. Meh. I might do the Boot-132 method someday, once it matures a bit more. But for now I have no complaints with the Kalyway method. The next guide release will make installation even easier, and only takes 20-30 minutes from a bare drive to a fully-installed 10.5.4 system.

If you do happen to try retail, document it and keep us updated ;)

Hi

Try to boot into safe mode and remove the driver.

Wich printer ? I have installed two Canon printers without any problems.

Skybums

thanks for the quick answer, i couldnt even boot in safe mode it does the same it stays in the white screen with the apple logo and the spinning thing for ever and then it keeps in a blue screen with the same spinning thing from the white screen, i runned my hard drive with -v

and this is what my computer said (well there was a lot more text but this was highlighted in yellow):

failed to load extension com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI.

from path: "uuid",

waiting for boot volume with UUID 2F9603A6-AF05-3765-8867

Class "AppleEHCIedMemoryBlock" is duplicate

i really have no idea what this may be because this is my first build in my life thanks in advance!!! for anyone that can help me :D

This is similar behavior to the memory issue I experienced. Try only one stick of ram and see what happens...

Patrick

thanks for the quick answer, i tried this on the morning but it gave me the same error
