Is there any1 successfully running FCS2 and or iMovie '08 on there Hackintosh? If so, can you possibly help me getting to that point. My Hack recognizes the cam(HV20) but stops shortly after where I can no longer import. I do not know what is causing this.

FCS version = 6.0

iMovie = 7.1.4

I tried damn near everything. I do not kno what else to do. Please help!!

I will try em both today.

Very nice, thanks for putting together a tutorial! Does using the Retail DVD mean that you can download ALL updates without any issue, or is the installation still prone to getting customizations like kexts knocked out upon updating?

Yes, OS X updates will knock out the customized kexts, but all you have to do after update is running the post-patch.sh script again before restart.

Here is WakeOnLan and WakeUp.

I believe they use the same ethernet packet method though WakeUp is widgetless.

K, I'll be home later this week and will give it a try! With a PCI card, it should work the same regardless of whether it's a P35 or EP35, I'd imagine.

I have done everything in the tutorial repeated times. It worked but when I went to import HD footage from HV20 into FCS2, at 1st FCS did not recognize my camera although the computer does. Then when it finally did, it only oimported only for a couple of seconds and then a panic where i had to restrt by holding down power button. The same goes for iMovie. Im now running 10.5.4. All other prgrams wrked thus far, jst the importing of video and all video software. This is the main reason for building this Hack.

Is there any 1 out there with any suggestions of have had similar issues? Please help.

I've installed and re-installed the whole hack and seperate programs numberous times.

I have the same mobo as the guide details, 2G RAM, EVGA 8800GTS vid card, firewire port, usb port, ethernet port and thats about it... ohh, Q6600 2.4 Quad CPU.

need help, thankx.

Odd, that's pretty much exactly the same setup I have. My HV20 works beautifully with it. It sounds like maybe you need a more compatible Firewire card - what brand and model are you using now?

I use it for everything that I was using my windows machine for. Well my mac "was" my windows machine. Gaming, music, movies, internet, my wifes homework and school. Any software I cant get on mac, I just download the pc version and run it on my mac with either crossover or vmware. WoW plays great and I dont notice any side effects of the tricky onboard LAN driver. It works smooth as silk while the mac is running, sleeping, restart, etc........

Kinda nice not paying $2800 to be able to play games at high rez, eh? :P

Donwloaded the SoundFlower, hard to learn how it works (not really :P )

It is working now THANKS, I will did the same on the Mac Pro and my Hackintosh Lappy :D

Whoohoo! Care to post details on how it works in case any of us want to give it a shot someday? ;)

iMovie 06, iMovie 08, and Final Cut Pro 6 all work fine on my Hackintosh.

Try changing the port that the Firewire card is in. Mine wasn't recognized in the first slot, which is what I had it in during installing. I moved it into the second slot and it recognized it. Now, I don't know if that's because it didn't recognize it in the first slot or just because it ignored it during the initial installation.

weaksauce12,

I couldn't find Processor.prefPane in my OSX boot drive. Using Spotlight gave me the same result. Could you please upload the file for me?

Download the latest tutorial package. You have to install the CHUD.pkg program from the Vanilla folder before you use the Processor.prefPane. Once you've installed it, oen Finder and click on your boot drive. From there, navigate to the following folders: Developer > Extras > PreferencesPanes and install "Processor.prefPane" (for all users).

You won't see Processor.prefPane if you don't install CHUD.pkg.

Why the processor pane list my processor as pentium 3 when i have E8400 C2D? Also the FSB is reported as 1.33Ghz is this being correctly read?

Perfectly normal! Nothing to worry about :)

Yes, OS X updates will knock out the customized kexts, but all you have to do after update is running the post-patch.sh script again before restart.

Ahh, that's easy. Good to know, thanks! :)

Cant install the Pro Applications update with this?

Just doesnt let me finish?

What kind of update is it? Does it download from the server, or is it pre-downloaded package installation?

********************

Regarding the video card model name issue - apparently NVinstaller uses the generic "Graphics by nVidia" tag during installation. It does NOT affect performance whatsoever. I'm working on finding an easy way to edit the name (just for cosmetic purposes).

Regarding the audio, I'll have a cosmetic fix up soon (thanks again to Master Stella!) so that it shows some info in the Audio properties in System Profiler. However, it is completely normal that it shows No Built-in Audio. It will still work fine. The fix is only cosmetic, nothing more.

One bug that myself and others have experienced is that the shutdown fix doesn't always work 100% of the time. Most of the time it works, but not all of the time. I guess this is just a trade-off for using the Vanilla kernel!

Please notify me here on the thread if you are having ANY additional problems. I am releasing the updated version of the guide in a week or so and want to have everything nailed down before I do!

So basically the Microsoft drivers...broke functionality? Wouldn't be unheard of...maybe they updated the version of the installer since your last Hackintosh installation and it's just not as compatible now. There are tons of great aftermarket apps to let you reconfigure the keyboard, many of which work better than Microsoft's software. Here are a couple good ones:

Ukelele

ControllerMate

Yes, that's exactly what I mean. And the Msft drivers weren't updated in the meantime; still from Dec 07. Thanks for the links. I might give them a shot, but things seem to be sorta working now. The big test will be when I receive my Logitech S530 set. In the midst of all this madness I decided to get a set made specifically for Mac to see how it would fare. I'll report back.

I'm convinced that 10.5.4 did some weird things to input devices and perhaps it broke the Msft drivers. A keyboard I had connected via PS/2 stopped working after going from 10.5.3 to 10.5.4.

Was your last hack (the one where your MS stuff worked) on 10.5.3? (the installation on your old drive)

Your PS/2 keyboard broke in 10.5.4 because of the new APCI platform kext; there's a fix available here:

What's wrong with your processor's Bus Frequency, unless you overclocked it.

Sure, I'll make a mini guide with screenshots.

I have a SYBA PCI-Express 1394a FireWire 4 ports Controller Card Model SD-PEX-NEC4F, I'm gonna try and find a place where I can buy locally so I do not have to waait. I wanna "get'erdone," and start working - utilizing this "Hackintosh" for the purpose that it was built for in the 1st place. I've been literally doing everything so hopefully it is just the firewire card.

My last hack was on 10.5.2. I originally used Kalyway 10.5.1, updated to 10.5.2 using the non-kalyway update method.

Aha! Good to know about the new APCI. Thanks! Though I'd ideally like to connect my stuff via USB so I can use all the special buttons. Man, when my PS/2 stuff stopped working I thought I was in the twilight zone! I couldn't get my USB stuff to work, then my PS/2 stuff stopped working! Oy!

I finally have time to install 10.5.2 and then update to 10.5.4 by using this guide. Currently, everything works without any problems.

However, there is one this I would like to change, computer name. Currently, my computer name under hackintosh is xxx-mac-pro, where xxx is log in name. Is there any way I can change this?

You might want to try (1) changing the PCI-e port (there are two 1x ports) and (2) purchasing a PCI Firewire card (as opposed to the PCI-e card). I have a regular PCI card and it works great; I'll lookup the make and model when I get home later this week.

My last hack was on 10.5.2. I originally used Kalyway 10.5.1, updated to 10.5.2 using the non-kalyway update method.

Ah, there must have been some change in the newer updates and installation methods that killed the Microsoft software. I use Steermouse and ControllerMate anyway; they've been very dedicated to keeping up-to-date builds for Leopard and having excellent hardware support.

Glad to hear everything is working for you!

You said "xxx" is the login name; do you mean the name to actually log into the computer to get to the desktop after booting up? The name should have been set right after installing Leopard - it asks you for a username, a password, and a password reminder after the Leopard Welcome Video.

Can you post a screenshot?

Hey, quick question...

whenever I try to look for ram on new egg for the mobo it only gives me listings

of 2 x 1gb...I'm looking for 2 x 2gb..so I can put in 8gb like you..what ram do you have/recommend?

Thanks

Just about any DDR2 will work fine. Choose RAM from major manufacturers. DDR2800 is going for just a bit more than 667, so it's a good price point. This selection from newegg seems to start around $80:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....amp;Order=PRICE

If you can get a set that runs at 1.8v (the default), that's good since it will help keep your computer a bit cooler.

Faster RAM generally won't make a big difference in performance, so only get it if you need the absolute fastest performance and are willing to pay the price premium for it. I'm running some DDR2667 very slightly OC'd to 700MHz. I've even got 4x1gb of Crucial Ballistix DDR2800 sitting around. I've just been too lazy to put it in.

v1.2 20-July-2008

4.
Install the Apple 10.5.4 Delta Update
:

1. Install the 10.5.4 Delta Update. Do NOT restart when finished!

2. Using Kexthelper, install "AppleACPIPlatform.kext" from the Vanilla folder in the tutorial package

3. Install "CHUD.pkg" from the Vanilla folder in the tutorial package

4. Open Finder and click on your boot drive. From there, navigate to the following folders: Developer > Extras > PreferencesPanes and install "Processor.prefPane" (for all users)

5. Install "PowerOff bug fix" from the Vanilla folder in the tutorial package

6. Click the Restart button on the 10.5.4 Delta Update window (the first reboot will take longer than usual)

7. Test Shutdown and Restart to ensure that they are working (shutdown will take a bit longer than on the Sleep kernel; that's normal)

[/indent]

This is such a great guide! Thanks. I am trying to resolve sleep (works but does not wakeup) and shutdown (sometimes not working) on my dell 1512 dual core. I know I am using different HW, but the issues are the same. I am at 10.5.4 now. I have two questions:

1. I have already updated to 10.5.4 from Apple, will I be able to still use "CHUD.pkg"? I can redo the whole thing if necessary.

2. Does using "CHUD.pkg" and subsequent steps disables my dell's second core?

3. As an alternative, will I be able to use sleep_kernel given that I am at 10.5.4 now?

Lastly, would cloning work if I use an image and later restore to a drive and then run Chameleon?

Thanks a lot.

In the Audio folder there is a file called ACL888.codec.txt

Drag that on top of the Taruga patcher.

Re-read the new tutorial it says here:

2) Check "Kernel_9.2_sleep" under "Kernels" (don't worry - we'll install Vanilla later!)

But I couldnt find this part in tutorial sorry for being such a noob

The patcher should run and you should get (1) a pop-up notification that says ALC888 or something like that in the upper right corner near the time display and (2) a bunch of text in a windows in the middle of the screen. That is output from the patcher program. You should then reboot and have sound available.

You know that part where you update to 10.5.4 using the update file from Apple? It contains a kernel from Apple, and those kernels are referred to as "vanilla" kernels because they aren't patched in any way.

First, thanks for the effort put forth on the best tutorial on the site. I'm trying to set this up on a second partition, where WinXP is on the first partition. I'm using the following hardware for this install:

GA-P35-DS3L

Intel E2180

2GB DDR2 PC6400 Ballistix Tracer - Crucial

EVGA 8600GT 256MB

Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s

Samsung WriteMaster SH-S203B SATA DVD/CD

Antec Sonata III Mid-Tower ATX

Followed all of the steps with no issues all the way through step 4. So, I got to step 5 and installed all of the kexts in the Kext Files folder. Rebooted and got the 'Do not enter' icon at the grey screen. I noticed I forgot to install the ethernet kext during this step, but I'm not sure it's related to the error I'm seeing:

Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleACPIPlatform" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style

Class "AppleEHCIedMemoryBlock" is duplicate

Duplicate class

kmod-control/start failed for com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI; destroying kmod

failed to load extension com.orByte.driver.PCGenUSBEHCI.

waiting for root device

waiting for root device

etc.

Is there a way to get back into the system, and remove the kexts from step 5, or any suggestions on how to resolve this error? I'm a complete noob at troubleshooting OSX, so even a slight push in the right direction would be appreciated. I would like to avoid going back to step 1, every time I add the wrong kext (if that's the issue). I've tried typing '-v' '-s' '-f' 'old' in various combinations from the boot prompt, and the system just reboots and stops with the same error.

Thanks in advance.

OK, I feel like an idiot right now. I wanted to clone my OSX disk, so I ran SuperDuper! That was fine. I installed the Chameleon program using the installer. How the heck do I run it?

EDIT: OK, feel even more like an idiot now. I obviously did not hose my existing installation by installing on my existing OSX disk because I rebooted and everything looked fine. I was supposed to change the installation target to the clone disk during the installation of the program. Duh. Well, I'm going to pop the clone in and see how it goes (after I mark the correct partition bootable)

The clone worked fantastic with your instructions weaksauce12. Another interesting thing to note: Looks like whatever is not allowing my Microsoft keyboard to be recognized is also affecting my Logitech EX110 set. The volume buttons on my Logitech aren't detected by default. After installing the Logitech Control Center software, only the mouse is detected. The set works fine on my PC, so I know it's the hack that's got the issue. Perhaps something in 10.5.4 or .3 broke keyboard detection. I didn't try attaching anything using PS/2, but I did apply the pcwiz patch you pointed me to anyway.

Thanks for the guide, weaksauce12! Everything works great, but initially I had problems with my video card (MSI 8500GT 512MB). I used the NVinstaller and chose the 512MB option, but this made the system very unstable and the graphics choppy (moving windows, etc). I tried the Vanilla option as well (no specified amount of memory) and now everything worked except that I only got 256MB. Bummer. However, I started looking into the whole EFI string business and found an installer that finally got my card up and running with 512MB. Just selected the 8500GT with 512MB from the list and clicked install. So simple!

Really strange though, I tested the card on a friend's DS4 board and it worked perfectly with NVinject512, but not on the DS3L. But I have the EFI string now, so to hell with injectors! :P

Now for my next problem: I want to use AHCI with all four SATA ports but unlike most people I actually want to be able to eject SATA drives (so that I can eject my Windows drive and get rid of some noise and not have it wake up every time I use Spotlight). I read that since 10.5.4 all SATA ports are recognized, no need for modded kexts, is this correct? I don't care if the icons are orange, and those can be changed using Candybar anyway.

Had multiple crashes today which was weird, all when running VmWare Fusion and XP. At least ten times in a row.

Weird since I've never had issues with VMWare before on a hack

Will try and run memtest since I've never done so before...
