weaksauce12
weaksauce12 Hey mate thanks for your awesome work on this project for are p35 board,Now here's the question i just installed retail 10.5.4 and everything worked even my ps2 keyboard and mouse then i upgraded to 10.5.6 and now ps2 doesnt seem to wanna work, Is there anyway around this and drivers for 10.5.6? if so could u make anther boot cd with those drivers included?. Other wise iam thinkin ill invest in a mac keyboard on thursday when i get payed anyone know if these apple keyboards are nice for the price? does wireless keyboards work and wat kinda bluetooth usb adaptor do i need? Thanks heaps advanced if u can answer any these questions The PS/2 kexts stopped working for me in 10.5.6 too. I'd recommend picking up a PS/2 to USB adapter, they're only like $5. Here's a link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16812156004 As far as Bluetooth goes, you will simply need a Mac-compatible Bluetooth adapter. I have both the white and the new, smaller aluminum Apple Bluetooth keyboards and they both work fine! The D-Link DBT-120 USB Bluetooth adapter works great: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...ink%20bluetooth Keep in mind that Bluetooth isn't initialized until the driver is loaded by the operating system, so you won't be able to access BIOS or the Gigabyte boot selector with a Bluetooth keyboard. PS2 kexts work for me for the retail 10.5.6. I removed them when I started using a USB version. I now use a new Apple keyboard, real nice, real pricey! I also use have a couple logitech ex110 wireless keyboard and mouse combos on two of my boxes. I only plug in the USB cord for the IR interface. It has two plugs, one usb and one PS2. I haven't tried bluetooth yet, don't have a need on my end. Really? The PS/2 kexts stopped working on my retail installs on both my DS3L and UD3P. Which PS/2 kexts are you using? macboots
hello weaksauce12. i just did a fresh install on my p35-ds3l board using your (i think) latest guide (the one that says release date Saturday, 28-March-2009). it all went smooth as butter. i used a mac osx 10.5.6 disc. only one problem. i have no sound. i did what your guide said. i also saw on the DS3L_Kit audio folder a AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 , which i executed (drag the other file on top of it). i restarted, but still i have no sound. speakers are ok. did i do anything wrong? i also opted for the P35-DS3L Full plugin. your guide is great and i can't wait for the wiki to be out. cheers mate! Is Azalia enabled in your BIOS? Software-wise, you just need the Full plugin + the HDApatcher, just like you did. Also, check your Sound Preferences to see if it's set to the Speakers and not line out or something (this is a common problem, I think the updates sometime swap it in prefs). And make sure your speakers/headphones are plugged into the green plug on the rear.

pat_ty
weaksauce12 I finally end up with Encore NIC card. There is no problem so far (on XP). Once I got the exchange RAM from A-Data, I will start installing 10.5.6. (Or maybe not if I can't wait for the new one) Now I'm using only one stick with 2GB Ram. pirloui
Little bit off topic, but speaking of usb issues... i am having the WEIRDEST problem. When i plug a usb flash drive into the front usb ports that are attached on the header of the motherboard, I loose all video/usb but not power. Since i can see anything i have no details, but from what i can tell all usb ports no longer work and no disaply to either of the ports on my Zotac 7300GT. I've been having to manually power down and reboot. At one point it would work the first time I plugged it in. I would then unmount it and on the second plug in, it would freak out. I have the exact same problem. I have a Modified G5 case, so I thought it could be a short circuit or grounding problem somewhere, but there shouldn't. The weirdest part is that sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. It's the USB headers aswel; with a extention that brings it to the PCI back. I hope we find something, I'll tell you if so. (the big one plus the smaller one near the CPU?) What are you running software-wise, Kalyway or the newer BOOT-132 method?
pirloui
Thanks for your care Weaksauce, I believe we have some exotic issue of which you shouldn't waste your time Both mobo powers are connected, everything works as it should, except this bizarre sensitivity. Installation method was your guide using uInstaller. It feels like a hardware issue, but it's weird two persons have the same "video dies because of USB" issue. I had an mATX board a year or so ago that fried when I plugged a USB keyboard into the front panel. I was able to get it up again, but it blew out all of the rear USB ports - I ended up having to get a PCI USB card to use *any* USB devices on it. Possibly due to a cheap, crappy PSU on that rig
weaksauce12
Ahah, finally - a cheap USB sound card with digital output! The Behringer U-CONTROL UCA202 USB sound card, $29 on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Behringer-U-CONTROL-.../dp/B000J0IIEQ/ I *believe* this is a stereo-only unit. Someone on an audio forum said they bought one and popped it open, and found a TI PCM2902, which is a USB to Stereo DAC chip. A PDF on TI's site confirms that the chip is a stereo ADC: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/pcm2902.pdf So it's still not quite the "holy grail" we've been looking for, as far as a 5.1 Digital USB sound card, but we're getting close! If you need Coaxial Digital output, you can pick up a TOSlink to Coax Digital converter box for $12 on Monoprice: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product....=1&format=2 What I'd really like is an Apple-style sound card the size of a USB stick (like the Syba model) that has multi-function audio input/output ports, like the Mac Mini - both analog stereo plus mini-TOSlink output with stereo & 5.1, then you can just get the appropriate adapter cable or converter box. blacksh33p
Not sure if I understand the ambiguous guidelines for posting, so I'll take a chance. Q7400 2.8 Core 2 GIGABYTE p45-udp3 Using onboard audio Disabled on-board lan in Bios, using Encore Nic (realtek 8169) Used the UDP3 package provided by weaksauce12... Followed the guide to a T....have only a couple minor issues.. 1: SysProfiler doesn't show any PCI cards, and more specifically, it does not show a NIC (also no NIC in Networking) I am using the Encore, disabled onboard LANs in Bios...chose No Network in Uinstaller per guidelines. 2: As, I guess a result, when I tried to enable the Time Machine fix in Uinstaller it threw an error (no ethernet detected or something like that). So Time Machine would not work. To try to fix this I decided to try replacing the Ionetworkingfamily.kext with a newer one that supposedly has been patched for the Time Machine issue. Incidentally, Time Machine is in fact working now after replacing that kext, fixing permissions, clearing kext cache, rebooting. It is backing up right now fine. *UPDATE* By working, I mean it now runs and "seems" to be backing up, slowly. But System.log shows a ton of UUID Error=35 stuff. But I still have no NIC showing...no PCI's showing..just Airport and Firewires. Ideas: 1: Keep the Encore and try ________ (any ideas?) 2: Remove the encore, backup my extensions (for video and wifi fixes) and re-run Uinstaller and use onboard LAN? Thanks for a very simple solution otherwise!

Hah, only guidelines for posting are pretty much keep it on-topic (DS3L or UD3P) I'm testing one final kext this week to eliminate a Kernel Panic-related bug and then I'll kill this thread and make a couple new ones (6 months overdue? lol). I've noticed with the latest 10.5.6 updates, I am getting UUID errors too. SuperDuper works, and Time Machine works when I force it, and it mostly works, but a few times I week I get an error message. So it's become an intermittent issue - I'll look into solving this! pat_ty
Weaksauce12 I just finish installing 10.5.6 on my p35-ds3l. However there is one problem I can't solve. I have 2 more SATA hard disks I need to connect with pc. Once I connect and turn on computer, it stops at the white background page (the one with apple icon in the middle), and there is a stop icon over the apple icon. How can I connect other SATA hard disks? Do I need to change anything in bios? Edit: I'm confuse. Now that error is gone. I can boot OSX. However, those 2 disks don't show up in OSX. I check by opening disk utility, but they are not there. Do you know how to fix this?

Well, it looks like Time Machine is definitely working/backing up. After it gets past the UUID errors it blows through it as it should on Firewire external drive. The NIC thing is still bugging me. Should System Profiler show anything under PCI (NIC, firewire card, whatever)? It is not super critical, since I was able to get the Linksys working fine. But I do need the NIC. Again, it is that encore nic (realtek chipset) that is supposed to work OOB. Since I am up and running and everything but that is kosher...would it be safe to backup my extensions/etc and use your Universal Installer to try my on-board lan instead? Thats just going to re-write the kexts, correct?
bibendum
Just a thought, blacksh33p, but are you sure the NIC is good? It won't show up as a PCI card because OSx should see it as built-in... when you go into System Preferences/Network, does it say anything about an ethernet interface? Patrick It is brand new but I have not tested it in another machine (don't have one to). I can try to bring it by a friend, could very well be the issue considering the quality/cost of the card. I assumed no PCI's would be listed, per your explanation, just wanted to be certain. But no, it does not show up under any Network as Ethernet (either in System Profiler or Preferences/Network)

If I am not mistaken, you just download the 600meg (not exact, but the 6XX something meg) combo update and follow the guide. I had no issues using an older retail disk and updating, per the guideline in the UDP3 package.

I still have the Leopard running for like 8 months, thanks to this tutorial. Now the problem is I want to update to 10.5.6 cuz mine is still 10.5.5, so I was wondering how do I do that? Download combo update and run it? Any need for extensions back ups or not? will it break any drivers like 10.5.4? Or it should run smoothly?
