Ah weaksauce, your timing is perfect :)

I was thinking about installing the full package directly on my current 10.5.6 system to see if this could help with the strange DVD problems and the not-really-working audio. Any reason not to do so? Should I remove the Taruga-patched audio thing before?

Edit: I would assume that the fact that your files are for P35 motherboards while I have a EP-35 is good enough not to use that package !

The package covers P35 Rev 1, P35 Rev 2, and EP35 :)

What is your current 10.5.6 system, Kalyway? If so, I wouldn't recommend installing BOOT-132 on top of Kalyway. Who knows what would happen, lol...

See the Wiki link above for a full list of apps (too many to post here!), as well as links to their individual homepages and a brief description of each app. I've split the DS3L/UD3P kit from the Developer Kit and Software Kit to make them easier to download. So now you can download a small motherboard kit (under 20mb), a Developer's Kit if you want to make your own BOOT-132 package for a different motherboard, and a Mac Software Starter Kit that contains a ton of useful apps, including system testing and benchmarking. This Starter Kit is especially useful if you are just switching to Mac and aren't familiar with all of the good programs available. A Windows Software Starter Kit (for dual-booting & virtual machines) is currently in the works as well. Enjoy!

:( I ditched Kalyway a long time ago, even before I started to beta-test your guide!

My system is 10.5.6 from a 10.5 Boot-132 setup. Basically, it is made as you suggested in post 1495 here

I realize I wasn't very clear in my previous post. I was referring to the "Win-DS3L.zip" file that seem to include only P35-related files. Anyway, that was to fix my audio issue, which happened to be a non-issue.

I am still trying to figure what exactly is the issue with the DVD. If I insert a disk in the DVD and leave it for several hours in the machine, at some point the DVD drive just stops responding. No eject, no read operation... IO just hang. I also had a similar problem with a disk in, although I can't remember if this was related to a network drive or a partition on my system drive.

Did the kexts for EP-35 changed since the first release of your guide? Although it is much less tempting to reinstall now that I am use the machine for work, I might consider it.

Found an interesting "bug": iTerm windows appear without any scroll bar or resizing handle! It seems to work properly on my MacBook. Is this something specific to my setup ? Could anyone give this a try - iTerm is available here.

Just wondering if this is some bug in my setup, or something common on hackintoshes. Also wondering how likely I am to come across another app this might behave like this.

Maybe you have a graphics bug? What video card and monitor do you have? What's your screen res at?

Video card: Asus EN8400GS Silent 256 MB

Monitor: Mistubishi Diamond Pro 2070 SB (that's a CRT :) )

Resolution: 1600 x 1200

I'm getting more and more convinced that this video card's only nice feature is that it is fanless.

Any cues on how to debug this?

The guide package covers the following:

-P35 Rev 1 (F7 BIOS+)

-P35 Rev 2 (F7 BIOS+)

-EP35 (F5 BIOS+)

iirc there is only one small change in the EP35 BIOS or something. With the F5 BIOS, the EP35 responds exactly the same to the Soup 2.0 package as the P35 boards do. Boy was that a pain in the neck to track down last year, lol. The main difference with this new package is that I switched OpenHaltRestart to VoodooPower by SuperHai, saves more power on your machine, which is nice. I also dug out my PS/2 keyboard and I'll test that; some people said they couldn't get theirs to work, so I'll see if perhaps the PS/2 driver needs to be in SLE instead of the Mkext file. Also, was your Audio issue just switching it to line out? For some reason, that reset on some people's systems after updating.

What make/model DVD drive do you have? iirc there's a certain Pioneer model that doesn't have a "sleep" function built-in.

The biggest issue I've heard with the fanless 8400GS is that it gets hot, so perhaps we are finding that there are bugs with this card after all. FWIW, the eVGA 8400GS 256mb card (which has a fan) has been reported as fully-working. I have started a "Video Card Compatibility List" on the Wiki to quickly find specific make/models of working cards, as well as to document cards with problems and cards that just don't work. Here's the link:

http://leopardsoup.pbwiki.com/videocards

Currently the cheapest, 100%-working card that I know of is the 256mb 7300GT (I like the fanless Zotac brand), which is in the $30 - $35 range. Fully capable of playing 1080p with the right CPU (2.0ghz dual-core E2180 or faster) and a couple gigs of RAM. Your card may or may not be the problem tho. Do you have any other cards you can test?

Regarding PS2: I think I've had issues myself with it so I just switched to a USB keyboard and that was it.

Regarding the DVD: my drive is a LG burner HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GH22NS30

Thanks for the info. I've tried with a different video card (an old MSI MS-8981 GeForce 6600) and got the same problem. I decided to remove the iTerm files in my Library/Preferences and in Library/Application Support, and then restart it. Now I have the scroll bar and resize handle. Put back the 8400 in and everything is the same. So it was some kind of iTerm bug / strangeness after all.

For the record, here is what I can say about these two video cards:

- Asus EN8400GS Silent 256 MB: works ok so far except resolution change leaves a blue screen; the new resolution works fine after reboot. Tested only VGA output, single screen.

- MSI MS-8981 GeForce 6600 (I think it is 128 MB, not 100% sure): noisy but appears to work perfectly. Tested only VGA output, single screen.

Quick update on the PS/2 issue:

I connected my PS/2 keyboard on the DS3L system running 10.5.6 with the PS/2 drivers (AppleACPIPS2Nub.kext & ApplePS2Controller.kext) in the Mkext file and rebooted. Nothing. I extracted the PS/2 kexts from the Mkext file, installed them into SLE, and rebooted. Nothing. Appears that they do not work on 10.5.6. Bummer.

Does anyone have PS/2 keyboards or mice working under 10.5.6 on the DS3L?

To anyone with audio problems:

I have DS3L Rev 2.0. Weaksauce's audio kext does NOT work for me. However, awhile back I found a patcher that did work (and continues to today!). Simply go with stock audio files, then drag the text file in this zip over Taruga.

http://dl-client.getdropbox.com/u/70306/DS3L%20Audio.zip

THIS RESOLVED MY SHUT DOWN KERNEL PANIC PROBLEM! I also have Restart and Sleep working for the first time ever! I'm using this to send digital/optical 5.1 to my stereo + the analog connection to headphones. Both work no problem, though you do have to specify which one you want to use in the System Preferences.

To anyone with annoying kernel panics:

I've found that my 2600xt has been the source of many problems. Since redoing everything today with the 10.5.6 dvd (from the leopard+ilife+iwork box set), then applying weaksauce's network+no audio to the installation + the strings for my 8800GTS, I've had fantastic success. I no longer have bizarre issues with the screen saver or anything of that sort. I also don't have the annoying horizontal lines through my screen (which I used to think was caused by my LCD).

I'm not entirely sure the source of my problems or that they're completely gone, I am in the process of time-testing my computer. But I no longer have ANY errors at boot up (except one stating that my USB kext will unload when it goes to sleep-- anyway around this?). I also installed a new power supply to go with my 8800GTS so that, too, could be part of the solution. I'm really psyched about my new GPU and hopeful that the old one was the source of all my problems...

UInstaller Bug: the UInstaller is foolish- if you are on onee computer (or particular drive/parition) and applying patches to another, it appears to trash/reset the kextcache on the machine you're applying FROM and not the one you're applying the patch TO. I had many errors including my computer started loading the JMicron kext despite no IDE drives being attached (and quickly KPing afterwards)... I walked away for awhile and went back and ran UInstaller from the other partition and made the observation that this other partition was working correctly despite my attempts to fix the other from this drive. I decided to run the -f boot flag from the troublesome partition and everything was honky-dory afterwards. Be warned that UInstaller doesn't function as expected when run on a drive other than the one being patched.

8800GTS observation: With my MSI 2600xt, I've never had the apple logo at boot time look correct- it was supposedly set at 1680x1050 (native to my lcd), but always looked stretched/distorted. With the 8800gts, this is not the case and it looks just as good as when served from my Macbook. I am also observing no lag issues or anything of that sort (though not thoroughly tested) that others have mentioned- though I have avoided installing the latest Quicktime update in my software update menu.

...and to echo everyone else, thanks weaksauce for all your work. not sure why you invest so much time in it :D also not sure why your audio patcher differs/fails while mine works despite both being alc888? but whatever :D

I have the ep45 version of the ds3l board. Mine also will not wake from a USB keyboard or mouse, so I had assumed that it was the same as the EP35 version. Then I emailed Gigabyte's tech support, and they said that it should be supported on this board, so long as the power supply supports it. I gather that means it has to have at least 1 amp on the +5vsp or whatever, and the one I have has 2.5 amps there. I also have an external USB drive, and the led on the drive stays lit during sleep. Do I need a certain extension or something to make it work, or has Gigabyte's tech support got it wrong?

Yes, there are 2 10.5.6 mouse issues - a general jitter issue related to Quicktime, and then a more specific on related to 8x00-series card users. Not all 8x00-series card users are affected, but many are. I'd suggest staying with 10.5.5 until there is a solid fix (unless there's an existing workaround already).

Hi guys, my first post but this will solve the jittery video/mouse issue a lot of people are experiencing. The problem is with the latest Quicktime(7.6) and can currently only be resolved by downgrading to 7.5. Download 7.5 here > http://support.apple.com/downloads/QuickTime_7_5_for_Leopard

If open close Quicktime and any other application which uses it, for example iTunes. You will then need a program called Pacifist to open up the Quicktime DMG.

Open the DMG with Pacifist, then open the .pkg contained within the DMG. Then drag and drop Applications, to the Macintosh HD root folder, if it asks you to replace files, click on replace (Not update)... Drop each of those folders to the root of the OSX HD except for "private".

You can now open iTunes or watch movies without any continual stuttering/jittering.

Good luck!

No PS/2 keyboard or mouse working for me. I only have 1 of each to try though.

This isn't an issue for me as I prefer my Apple aluminum keyboard and my other USB mouse.

Sorry for taking so much time replying, I have lacked free time to try this out until today.

This looks very promising; I did precisely what you suggested and so far no display problems (and the added bonus of being up-to-date with 10.5.6). So, no unusual video bugs this time, only the usual {censored} iwth my 8400GS that is stuck at the blue screen when I change the resolution, which forces me to do a blind reboot. But it has been like that since the beginning and this problem does not show up with the old 6600. I learned to live with it.

I had the same problem. Fixed it when I switched which port my monitor was connected to. Seems at boot the system find the port with the monitor, but at resolution change, it always went to one particular port.

What I mean is that when I boot with the Boot132 it only shows the first hard drive. Then once the install is complete it still only shows one hard drive. It does not show both. I have the two hard drives and the one sata DVD drive, using 3 SATA ports. I only show one hard drive, and then the DVD drive when I boot into Leopard after the install. I would like to have both hard drives and the DVD drive working in Leopard. Is there anyway to get the computer to show the other hard drive once I install leopard?

Which retail version did you install? I found the same problem when installing w/ 10.5.1. Once upgraded to 10.5.5, however all the SATA ports were visible. Using a 10.5.4 retail disk, I didn't see this problem at all.

DOH!

I had a working 10.5.5 setup (iDeneb) running well. I foolishly decided to upgrade to 10.5.6 and now have trashed my setup (P35-DS3l, Xeon 3350, 4x1TB drives in RAID).

Can anyone suggestion a foolproof way to get the P35-DS3L (I have the F8F bios) working with 10.5.6?

hi everyone :(

i'm installing from a 10.5.0 leopard retail DVD (a real one) with GAP35DS3L rev 2, bios F7. I can install the system 10.5.0 (this works!) and then :

1) install all the Uinstaller like in the PDF and run 10.5.6 combo update ?

2) install all the Uinstaller like in the PDF (except EFI strings & ethernet) and run 10.5.6 combo update ?

3) install all the Uinstaller like in the PDF (except EFI strings & ethernet) and run 10.5.5 combo update and the the 10.5.6 combo update ? FAILED after rebooting after installing 10.5.5 update

4) install all the Uinstaller like in the PDF and run 10.5.5 combo update and the the 10.5.6 combo update ?

when should i install the kext package ? (at the end of everything ?)

Thanksssss ;)

well, i install 10.5.0, install, do like in the PDF but use the 10.5.6 instead of the 10.5.5, and then install the audio kext and an old .txt file with "HDA patcher" I used to use for Kallyway, go to the sound proprieties and change to my speakers and it looks everything is working :P greaaaat, i'm happy :D

Thank you weaksauce and everybody who help for this, and sorry for my bad school english :)

The installation on my system went great. I'm running 10.5.5 with the latest install package in this thread.

However, I just went to setup Time Machine to backup to a 500GB USB drive and TM says "The backup volume could not be found".

Anyone else run into problems with TM?

I just went back and did the Time Machine EFI fix using Uinstaller and now my system doesn't boot. {censored}. It gets as far as...

vmmon: Registering for power state changes

and it hangs.

Ok, I was able to boot into OS X with -x. What should I do to fix my system?

EDIT: Ok, I reapplied the EFI strings for the Ethernet and my 8800GT with the Uinstaller and now everything appears to be ok. Time Machine is working, system boots normal, etc...I think I'm good.

Whew, that was scary.

10.5.6 worked for me.

I installed following the guide, except I skipped the DST patch (no longer needed I believe), and upgraded with 10.5.6 combo.

EP35-DS3L here. Just needs to reinstall Audio.

I have the shaky cursor though; it's a matter of quicktime version I believe. Any other fixes around?

Anyway, thanks a lot Weaksauce, it was very easy and handy

Thanks for the tip about the flashing gkrankers.

I dislike slashing stuff, but I'm also a update whore, so I just need that iLife'09..

Here is the link: deffinite mouse lag fix for 8800GT.

Yeah, I want 10.5.6 and the 09 suite as well...

I'd be more comfortable if I had another video card (PCI or onboard) to boot with if the flash on the 8800GT went bad. I'll get brave enough eventually.

I think I had 10.5 or 10.5.1. I will have to try that. Right now I am running Kalyway 10.5.6. Everything works fine I have all 4 SATA ports running on my computer so I am happy but considering trying this. Thanks for the post!

AH! I actually never thought about this! Thanks for the tip; connecting my monitor to the DVI port using a DVI to VGA adapter and I can now change the resolution without having to blindly reboot. I noticed that if I pick 1920x1440 the display isn't able to redraw properly and rebooting leaves a blue screen. Using lower resolutions work fine so far.

This isn't an issue for me as I prefer 1600x1200 anyway.

I love this new setup!
