Retail Leopard only sees the first 2 SATA ports during installation. The only way you'll get it to work is to used a hacked version of Leopard, like Kalyway, which already has the drivers loaded on the CD. But then you're stuck with Kalyway instead of BOOT-132.

So does that mean using the retail leopard disk I will only be able to have 2 SATA devices? I would like to have 2 hard drives and 2 DVD drives. How would I get all these working? I am kinda dumb with all this stuff.....

The solution is to simply plug your boot drive into Port 0 and your Time Machine drive into Port 1, just a quick swap of the cables if you have them in different ports.

I'll start a new thread for the BOOT-132 method as soon as I get all 60+ pages of the new guide ported to the Wiki :)

so your saying i can just how swap the ports during the installation?

oh.. and has anybody tried installing Logitech Control Center? i swear it worked before.. now when i install it ... it won't boot anymore.. just says warning that i need to shut off my computer and reboot

I currently have two hard drives (port 0 and 1) and two dvd drives (ports 2 and 3). What I did was use the boot hard drive on port 0 and the dvd drive in port 1. Install OSX and then shutdown the pc and unplug/re-plug any drives you want to use, except for the boot drive, leave it on port 0.

Download the newest Logitech Control Center release for mac at logitech.com . It works fine for me. The old version just freezes.

I have a similar problem. I am on the boot132 method on 10.5.6 and I have a choppy mouse and video (a ticking) but only when iTunes is open. I can watch say streaming video (youtube, fox full tv episodes) etc and no problems with choppy mouse or video unless iTunes is open. When iTunes is closed. The problem goes away. It is very strange... I am all up to date with all system and software updates.

That's a known bug with 10.5.6. Don't worry, you're not alone  Only fix right now is to re-install and only upgrade to 10.5.5.

During Leopard installation & setup (before you get to the desktop), Retail Leopard will only see 2 ports - Port 0 & Port 1. After you finish setting it up and finally get to the desktop, then you can finally use all 4 ports. If you need to restore from Time Machine, you can launch the Migration Assistant to do so after installation - it's just there during installation as a convenience. You can totally do it after installing as well ;)

No, I don't think you can hot swap ports during installation...but, if you really want to, after you install Leopard and reboot for initial setup, you can swap out your DVD drive with your secondary hard drive. But again you can launch Migration Assistant post-install, right from the desktop. iirc it's in the Utilities folder (just use Spotlight to find it).

Logitech Control Center is working great for me on my 10.5.6 test drive.

On digital it does, if your player supports it, and if your source has a 5.1 soundtrack.

so there is no way to get my rear speakers working on my mac? it has to be digital? i have my fronts connected on the green and my rears on the black...

I don't know if analog 5.1 works on the DS3L for sure or not, I only have stereo & digital speakers, nothing with analog 5.1. I know the UD3P doesn't support analog 5.1 under Leopard, but maybe someone else can chime in to confirm whether or not the DS3L has 5.1 analog support for Mac.

Hi all,

I just completed the Leopard install on a ud3p with an E8400 and an 8600GT. The procedure I followed was to install Leopard (from 10.5.0 with Boot 132), restart, install weaksauce12's ud3p package, install the 10.5.6 update, restart, then install the ud3p package again, and restart. Everything works great, except the onboard audio. When I go to system settings, audio, under the output tab there are no devices. I tried installing the kext's again and restarting, but this did nothing. As a last resort i tried installing the audio codec for the ds3l, but this also did nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

In case anyone experiences this same problem... I used the ud3p install package that weaksauce released. Everything worked perfectly except that no audio output devices appeared in system preferences. After purchasing a Turtle Beach USB Amigo sound card and plugging it in, all of the mobo audio outputs instantly appeared, as well as the USB sound card. I then unplugged the usb sound card and everything is now working perfectly. I am using the mobo audio out, and it sounds great.

Thanks for your work on this weaksauce!

FYI I'm no longer working with Kalyway. Kalyway can be updated to .5 using the Netkas method, so if you try .6, as always, have a bootable backup before doing it. BOOT-132 is much easier to work with, and has better results. I would advise switching - think of it like a band-aid, it hurts when you rip it off, but it's better in the long run ^_^

I just recently got this board installed and I've been waiting on your updated guide to do anything with osx, but I would like to know which install disk is best for my GA-EP45-DS3L? I can probably get my hands on a purchased Retail Leo install disk, but I'd like to know what hacked install disk you are basing your new guide on. Thanks!

My guide is only for the P35-based DS3L boards. There are some EP45-based guides floating around that you should use instead, because it's probably using the newer ICH10 whereas the P35 is using ICH9.

The problem is the latest quicktime... So, update to 10.5.6 but don't install any quicktime update and your choppy mouse problem disappear.

@weaksauce12

Thanks for the 2.0 guide, it's very clear and easy to follow. I've nearly got a perfect system working, except for this one small wake-from-sleep issue: The computer sleeps fine, but when I wake it from sleep, I get a weird distorted graphics problem. Often, the whole screen goes 'blocky' with distorted black and white rectangles, and other times, I see the desktop/UI as you would expect, however as soon as I do anything (click on something, open a menu, hover over the dock etc) the graphics problem resumes in that place on the screen.

The only way to fix it is to unplug the DVI cable from the back of the graphics card and re-plug it in. This seems to refresh the screen (briefly fades through blue) and it's then working fine until I next sleep the system. Strangely, just turning the monitor off and on doesn't fix it, I have to unplug/re-plug the DVI connection for it to refresh. Here are my system specs:

P35-DS3L

Intel Q6600

4GB DDR2

XFX Nvidia 7900GT (256mb)

Samsung SyncMaster 205BW TFT (DVI)

2x 500GB western digital caviar Sata HDD

Leopard 10.5.5 via leopard soup 2.0

I suspect it's some sort of driver issue related to my 7900GT, though I selected the correct EFI strings when following the guide, and have tried a reinstall (following the guide again) with the same results. I've also tried removing the EFI-strings and instead using Nvinject, Nvinstaller or NVkush but they all yeild the same results (except for NVinject, which worked fine on wake-from-sleep, but I couldn't get QE/CI working with it). And I also tried manual installation of EFI strings for my card, with the same results as before.

Also, I read about a similar issue somewhere, and the suggested fix was to use the secondary DVI port on the gfx card instead of the primary DVI port. I've tried this, and whilst it sometimes works (no gfx issues on wake), most of the time I just get the same problem.

With the EFi-Strings from the Installer, System profiler is showing as QE/CI enabled, and just in case, I've used pcwiz's OSx86tools to enable QE/CI (apparently it doesnt always work first time).

Any ideas? I notice you had a graphics issue with a different 7 series card here. Could this be related?

Here's a few images of what the screen looks like after wake from sleep:

Thanks again for the great guide, I'm so close to a fully-working hackintosh!

Hi!

I just my hackintosh up and running woth my EP35-DS3L board.

Everything works smoothly until I install the AppleHDAPAtcherv1.20. I drag the txt file unto that file and then do a restart.

What happens after the restart is that the screens go all black, when I start moving things around I get a "rubber" effect.

Also all the windows are responding really slowly compared to what they usually do.

See the attached image to see how my screens look

Try uninstalling quicktime, re-install Version 755 again.

There is a fix somewhere on this site.

You don;'t need to reinstall and downgrade.

I just cant find it right now......

You have to use an older version of quicktime and pacifist and replace 2 files..then you'll be good to go.

Just installed 10.5.6 on my UD3P via the Leopard Soup 2.0 guide, with the UD3P Package. An all is working fine but sometimes i get a black overlay saying to restart (Kernal panic?) when i shutdown. My bios (v. F6) sittings are as the guide says.

Here's my quistion, there is only 2 kexts in the UD3P Package? and your are showing 13 kexts in your post?

I used the motherbord package with Uinstaller and I can only see 2 kexts in there, am I missing 11 kexts? :S

#EDIT

PS I have a disk with Vista on the Purple SATA connectors running IDE in bios.

Kernel Panics

Does anyone have any issues of any kind with screen savers? I think I'm looking for 2600xt users here...

I've had a strange issue with KPs with every attempt at my hackintosh. It seems to happen when the computer is left idle for a long time (over night). I usually see the screensaver with a KP msg over it. I've tried disabling the screensaver, and despite the preferences showing it as being set to one thing AND the time being set to neevr, a diferent one manages to spring up. I'm thinking my GPU might be overheating when its left doing this for a long time (though it seems doubtful).

Like I said, I've had this with every distro I've tried (Kalyway,iAtkos,boot132)... if anyone has some suggestions I'd appreciate it. I wish I had an nvidia card to test with, but I'm sick of pouring money into a buggy box :D

If the 11 mkext isent in the UD3P package, can you make a zip for me. :P

PS. What is the difference betvine kext and mkext ?

I have a GA-EP35-DS3L board, SATA DVD drive, SATA HD. I attempted weaksauce12's Boot132 method to install from a 10.5.0 retail DVD.

I applied the BIOS settings specified in the guide then booted using the boot132 disc created from weaksauce12's kit, however I can't get the installer to load. The Apple logo screen comes up with the timer graphic, but it hangs there forever as if its loading, and never leaves this screen. I don't receive any kernal panics or errors. I also used the -v method and verified that I was not getting any errors.

It seems that most people have had success using these guides, at least most actually get an install. Has anyone had any issues like mine?

Think of Mkext as a zip file for Kexts. The Mkext is a single file that can contain many Kext files. So I have most the Kexts bundled inside the Mkext file, but there are 2 that are required to be installed individually and not in the Mkext file. Bottom line, you already have all the files you need :)

Make sure that your SATA drives are plugged into Port 0 and Port 1, the 2 SATA ports nearest to the memory slots. Otherwise it will kernel panic. After you install Leopard, and set it up and get to the desktop, you can then put it on any port because then the drivers are installed.

Can anyone suggest a decent pci sound card that supports 5.1? The ds3l has decent sound, but it's not 5.1 and there is of course no support for the x-fi (my main soundcard).

All depends on your budget. What kind of 5.1 do you need - analog or digital?

Most ATI cards are very buggy. Have you been using the 2600XT on all your other Hackintosh installs? If it's a buggy driver, then it will be buggy in every distribution no matter what. The 2600XT hasn't had spectacular support in the past. I'd suggest an Nvidia card.

Which ever is cheaper :)

Edit: Actually, one with digital might work better, that way I could leave the x-fi (analog) plugged in to my receiver and have the other sound card (digital ports available on the receiver) pluged in as well. No having to change the cables back and forth when I reboot to the other OS.
