Hey weaksauce! Really loving my hack made with your 10.5.5 guide, its by far the best one yet.

One quick question that maybe you can help with. Having a permissions issue that just won't repair. I don't think it is causing me any problems but I thought I would check what you think. There are a few of the ACL issues with the ichat icons but this is pretty much what the repair permissions looks like:

Permissions differ on "Users", should be drwxr-xr-x , they are lrwxr-xr-x .

ACL found but not expected on "Library/Application Support/Apple/iChat Icons/Flags".

Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26.

Permissions differ on "private/var/spool/cups/cache/rss", should be drwxr-xr-x , they are drwxrwxr-x .

This is a pretty old user folder that has been migrating with me around since OS 9. Also I keep the User folder on a separate hardware raid for speed, connect with a symbolic link to the regular place on my startup disk.

Any ideas or advice on how tot resolve it?

I am not sure if anyone cares but this board is now supported by EFiX.

Nice! I've got an EFI-X chip in my toolbox, I'll have to give it a shot on my P35 & EP35 boards.

Some permissions errors like the iChat icons are perfectly normal. As long as the errors aren't interfering with your OS usage, it's just fine.

I've upgraded and got the sound working again but things are choppy..

Try re-installing your video card driver. What card are you using?

I've bought a second HD to dual boot vista. For anybody who is doing it this way. You will need to get AHCI to work properly. All you need to do is edit a registry key in vista see this:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976

So basically:

1. Disable AHCI

2. Install Vista

3. Configure per MS instructions

4. Reboot, enable AHCI

pretty much...

i think one more reboot when at then because it re-detects your hard drives.

Just a side note....

I had some OS 10.5.4 (Kalyway) problems where booting would get as far as partially opening Safari and Entourage and stall.

To make a long story short, the more I worked on trying to resolve it, the worse the problem got until I could no longer boot up....would stop at "Verifying DMI Pool Data".

Luckily I have a backup emergency OS hard drive (kalyway) with minimal apps. I downloaded Weaksauce's new guide...ran Uinstaller on my sick hard drive. The settings I used were...for the motherboard package: "GA-P35-DS3L Rev.2" (even though I have an EX38-DS4) and "Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12" that's it. Booted right up. So far it's running a little sluggish...but it could be from all the abuse trying to get it going before running Uinstaller.

Anyway I will keep this old Kalyway install as my main backup and build a fresh Weaksauce install shortly (after I get a few jobs out of the way).

I need to re-read the manual to find out what motherboard package is the most compatible with my EX38-DS4. Still a little foggy on how to build custom motherboard package.

Many thanks to Weaksauce and PCwiz for saving my butt!

I have a weird problem. I am not sure what exactly it is. Maybe I missed a step somewhere. I have the GA-EP35-DS3L motherboard with the F5 bios update. I am running two with two SATA HDs and one SATA DVD Drive. I have a core2Extreme processor and a working video card. The problem is that when I boot up too Leopard with Boot 132 disk it will only read one of the hard drives. I am not sure why. I can install perfectly on the hard drive but I needed both to work. I have the DVD drive plugged into SATA0 then HDD 1 into SATA1 and the HDD 2 into SATA4. I have also tried skipping SATA4 and using SATA5. Still no luck! It will only read the first two ports. The motherboard is showing all 3 devices so I dont think its the motherboard. Also the Kalyway 10.5.2 disk boots with all three devices being shown. I am using Leopard 10.5 and 10.5.1 and nether work for me showing the devices. Anyone have any suggestions? I am not sure what to do....

To make a motherboard package:

1. Test kexts until you have a working system

2. Package kexts into an Mkext file using Mkext Tool

3. Test Mkext (a couple of my files had to be in SLE - namely R1000 & AppleSMBIOSEFI)

4. Compile a Plugin using Uinstaller

A Plugin is nothing more than a folder containing a notes file, a dsdt file, a folder with kexts inside, and an Mkext file. The Uninstaller Plugin Maker (it's in the menu of Uinstaller) simply creates a folder with the .plugin extension and drops those files in there. You can do it manually if you want! I've got a Developer's Guide in the works, just been super busy with work. If I get this weekend off, I'll post it on the Wiki.

I think that how it works when first installing Leopard using Boot 132...only the first two SATA ports will show.

Not sure what you mean needing the other to work. To install another OS or are you not seeing the second HD when booted into the new OS hard drive?

I have an install using the original guide to 10.5.4. What is the best way to upgrade to 10.5.6? Is the an update to the original guide?

Thanks!

The Kalyway guide has been tested up to 10.5.5 using netkas' Terminal hack trick, but I haven't run Kalyway in months so I don't know about 10.5.6. It would *probably* be okay, but as always, have a bootable backup before upgrading. My advice is to switch to the BOOT-132 method as it is much better.

What I mean is that when I boot with the Boot132 it only shows the first hard drive. Then once the install is complete it still only shows one hard drive. It does not show both. I would like to have both hard drives and the DVD drive working in Leopard. Is there anyway to get the computer to show the other hard drive once I install leopard?

Where can you find this Netkas trick?

I have a working Kalyway 10.5.4 system. Can I use some of the Kalyway kexts with your install method? If so how do I know which ones kexts are 'Kalyway' and which ones are stock?

Thanks,

John

I don't know for sure but it could be a AHCI setting in the bios?

thats sort of like me too.. in the install.. i cannot see my second hard drive on the second sata channel.. and that is where my time machine backup is... i would like to get this to work so when something screws up.. i can restore my computer back.

when i boot into OSX, my second HD shows up.

Retail Leopard only sees the first 2 SATA ports during installation. The only way you'll get it to work is to used a hacked version of Leopard, like Kalyway, which already has the drivers loaded on the CD. But then you're stuck with Kalyway instead of BOOT-132. The solution is to simply plug your boot drive into Port 0 and your Time Machine drive into Port 1, just a quick swap of the cables if you have them in different ports.

Was difficult to find...maybe Weaksauce can post his link to first post:

I'll start a new thread for the BOOT-132 method as soon as I get all 60+ pages of the new guide ported to the Wiki :P

Hi all,

I just completed the Leopard install on a ud3p with an E8400 and an 8600GT. The procedure I followed was to install Leopard (from 10.5.0 with Boot 132), restart, install weaksauce12's ud3p package, install the 10.5.6 update, restart, then install the ud3p package again, and restart. Everything works great, except the onboard audio. When I go to system settings, audio, under the output tab there are no devices. I tried installing the kext's again and restarting, but this did nothing. As a last resort i tried installing the audio codec for the ds3l, but this also did nothing. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

My Hackintosh is still running 10.5.4. I used the Kalyway install disk and followed Weaksauce's instructions to get me to 10.5.4. After reading a lot of the posts here, I'm very confused about what I need to do to update to 10.5.6. I'm a newbie at this and I've looked at the Netkas hack and other posts, but none of it is making complete sense. One of the wonderful things about Weaksauces original post was that it held my hand step by step and I'm looking for something along those lines for me to upgrade to 10.5.6. I know that the Boot132 method is now being advocated for by Weaksauce, but I really don't want to have to install everything in order to update easily.

Anyways, (not sure all of that made sense) I'm looking for some step by step instructions on how to get to 10.5.6 (I know that Weaksauce is working on this) but I'm dismayed by how long it is taking for the updated instructions by him and by reading all of the posts by folks that are running 10.5.6.

If the answer is that I just need to shut-up and wait, then I will.

Thanks for all of the wonderful work that you guys do

FYI I'm no longer working with Kalyway. Kalyway can be updated to .5 using the Netkas method, so if you try .6, as always, have a bootable backup before doing it. BOOT-132 is much easier to work with, and has better results. I would advise switching - think of it like a band-aid, it hurts when you rip it off, but it's better in the long run ;)

My next system will be with Boot-132. I was able to follow the NetKas method in combination with another post that someone else directed me to in order to upgrade to 10.5.6. However, I no longer have sound and the sound output device no longer appears in System Prefs. How do I add the sound back? Also, the shutdown/restart does not seem to be working properly either.

As always thanks,

Re-install Taruga & install either OpenHaltRestart (in my new package) or try VoodooPower 1.2.1 (new release sub-forum of Insanely).

I have a similar problem. I am on the boot132 method on 10.5.6 and I have a choppy mouse and video (a ticking) but only when iTunes is open. I can watch say streaming video (youtube, fox full tv episodes) etc and no problems with choppy mouse or video unless iTunes is open. When iTunes is closed. The problem goes away. It is very strange... I am all up to date with all system and software updates.
