OzTambo
Weaksause once again thank re did an old build yesterday all worked good one tiny glitch that I worked around... Spec's P35-DS3L Intel E5200 2 GB RAM Nvid 7600gs Upon waking from sleep the screen shrinks to 6 inches wide, adjusting any of the settings, rebooting , running the installer nothing works.. If I change from DVI to VGA then I can reset and everything works fine, even DVI I suspect it is the older style grfx card.. may just pick up a 8600 today. any idea's other than replacing video card??? Mikey Dread
Great guide weaksauce, just updated my old Kalyway. FYI Somewhere in your guide it says to not use Migration Assistant or Time Machine to migrate an old Hackintosh. I just successfully used it after following your guide, transferring from another disk selecting only options users and Application, leaving network settings and Files unchecked. Not sure if I was just lucky, but so far so good. Also I made a small change in the order of your guide and it seems to have worked the same. I installed the 10.5.5 combo update just after the "Open Mac OS Installer step and before the initial install of the Uinstaller step. Its weird to have sleep un-expectantly working again, at first I though it was crashed! Thanks again.
Dymbag
Hi guys, Newbie here. First build was >$250 mac on this forum which went well. Anyhoo, on my second build, I'm currently running on weaksauce's manual using P35-DS3L vid card Geforce 8600 GT 256mb and SATA stuff. I successfully updated up to 10.5.6 as of yesterday morning and running great but the weird thing is I can't install the "Additional Kext on Uinstaller. Each time I run that installation, my build goes to a black screen with mouse pointer image stuck on top left of the screen after reboot. When I do the boot 132 boot to try booting up second time, it does boot to the screen BUT top menu is totally black AND applications won't start (including System preference). It gives me an error failed to start! This happens both on 10.5.5 and 10.5.6. What is the purpose of the additional Kext?? is it really necessary to find a way to install it?? so far, no other issues other than non functional sleep. btw, I'm running F7 bios. I'm guessing it's a video driver conflict or something. I'm not computer technology savvy so pls help in layman's term. Thanks in advance! Im loving this build. weaksauce did great job with the manual! Make sure you're not using a keyboard with fingerprint scanner. I had a similar problem but fixed it by changing keyboards. Thanks again. 10.5.5 usually caused a USB freeze if installed from the HDD, and you had to unplug all your stuff and plug it back in before finishing the install. 10.5.6 doesn't have that problem and so that step is in the v1.1 guide
amazinrobert
I have a 10.5.0 leopard disc. Do I have to install the 10.5.1 update before the 5.5 combo update?

No. Just update to 10.5.6: 1. Install Leopard (BootCD) 2. Setup Leopard (BootCD) 3. Install Uinstaller (minus the kexts) 4. Install 10.5.6, reboot 5. Install all updates (keep rebooting until there are no more left) 6. Install Taruga & Uinstaller Kexts (kext checkbox - these must be installed after all other updates are done!), then reboot 7. Disable Automatic Updates

weaksauce12
Off Topic, but does anyone have an Intel Atom board? Whipped up a plugin and tested on a friend's single-core Atom 230 (D945GCLF). Regular install from HDD: Leopard, 10.5.6, then Uinstaller (HDD, Mobo, Kexts, Boot Timeout, Native Resolution @ your screen, PC EFI v9, Ethernet String). Boot up, setup Leopard, download updates. Only bug is the formatting...doesn't want to install on MBR and requires a BootCD to be in there for GUID. Package here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/nxjytzret2r/atomkit.zip Includes About This Mac editor so you can change the ATM text to say "1.6ghz Atom 230" or whatever you want. I currently don't have an Atom board, so if anyone wants to give it a try, it supports video/audio/networking etc.
Mikey Dread
Its not quite clear to me reading the thread, Can we update to 10.5.6 after using the weaksauce 10.5.5 guide? Another quick question. While testing the weaksauce 10.5.5 on a test disk before cloning it to my main drive, I ran Disk Warrior on it and it killed it. At first I thought it was just me messing around to much, but on retrospect I am wondering if Disk Warrior is compatible with hackintosh?
nintenno
it is possible to update to 10.5.6 but why risk it i mean its pretty much the same as 10.5.5 unless you really want to do it (its pretty easy actually if you have boot 132 and backup your kexts) do you have a test install you can try it on

It's just a cosmetic issue for both the "About This Mac" and in System Profiler --> Memory info. You can fix info in "About This Mac" window using PCwiz's OSx86 Tools Utility: http://######.com/index.php?option=...1&Itemid=
weaksauce12
Does anyone know if its possible and how to boot from a sata card on this motherboard? Specifically my mac compatible alllegedly bootable highpoint raid card. Yes, you'll need (1) the drives for your RAID set and (2) a spare drive: 1. Install Leopard to the spare drive (single HDD) 2. Install the RAID card driver 3. Use SuperDuper to clone the spare drive's Leopard install to the RAID card array, then install the Bootloader to the RAID arra Both apps are in Tools > Cloning folder in my DS3L Kit. This is the method I used on my last RAID card (Rosewill RC-211), but unfortunately they don't have a .5/.6 driver so I'm currently not using it. But this should work on pretty much any Mac-compatible RAID card setup (although some HighPoint cards say they're bootable and some don't, so I don't know how a non-bootable card would work as a bootable drive on a Hackintosh, haha). For anyone that want to use Vanilla 10.5.6 AppleHDA (or upcoming new ones) I made modifications to the kexts that THe KiNG made see here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=1017550 Does your modded kext negate the need for Taruga? Do you have any popping with this mod? I had popping with my old test kexts, which is why I'm still using Taruga. so i have pc8500 ram.. but in osx it says its running at 800MHz.. in the bios it shows 1066 MHz ... does OSX not support this ram? or am i missing a setting of some sort? btw.. i have 6 gigs of ram, besides the speed issue..runs no problem so far... The default SMBIOS stuff is locked in at 800 MHz. You can manually edit if you want, but it's just cosmetic. The only thing I bother editing is the "About This Mac" pane. There's an app called "About This Mac Modifier" in the "Installation" folder that will let you directly edit it (just restart to make the changes take effect). At first I thought it was just me messing around to much, but on retrospect I am wondering if Disk Warrior is compatible with hackintosh? Which install method are you using? If it's BOOT-132, you can upgrade to .6 just fine. .6 sounds a little buggy so my main system is still on .5, but .6 does work just fine. Haven't tested it on Kalyway because I haven't had it installed for months. As far as Disk Warrior goes, I don't see why not. If you're concerned about it, make a backup of your system before trying it. The only thing I've come across that doesn't work is Boot Camp; all of my other tools work, even my pro tools like Adobe CS, Final Cut, Maya, etc.

weaksauce12
I hear no popping, never had that problem tho. It was a problem with a different HDA I had. No upgrade worries like Taruga, but it would pop loudly whenever you started playing audio. I'll give this new one a shot and if works I'll add it to the v1.1 update. Thanks! ColdWrench
Yup I have this too (I'm running the same guide revision you are). I believe this is because of the IDE driver. I've updated the IDE driver with a newer one and it seems to be working. Download this: http://darwin-ata.googlecode.com/files/JMicronATA.kext.zip Remove the legacyjmicron.kext (Extensions folder), delete extensions.mkext (Library folder), and try this one using Kext Helper (reboot after installation). See if it works for you. I tried this a while ago attempting to solve a problem where the EP35-DS3L would not sleep, but to no avail. I decided wait for your latest guide (a great piece of work, BTW) and try again. Summary of the problem: When trying to sleep, the machine: - Blanks the monitor - Turns off hard drive - Accesses optical drive for a second or two; waits 5 seconds; accesses the optical drive; waits another 5 seconds; accesses the optical drive and waits for about 60 seconds before turning off the machine. During this interval, the power button does nothing. Upon restart, the machine may work, but mostly you get a beach ball and the drive LEDs blink periodically while the machine is hung. In effect, it is not possible for the machine to sleep. MB: GA-EP35-DS3L, Rev F5 BIOS CPU: Core 2 Duo E7200, 2.53 MHz RAM: 2x 1GB PC6400 VID: eVGA 8600GT, 256MB HD: 2x Seagate 500GB 7200.11 SATA drives. DVD: LG DVD +/- RW, DL, SATA ETH: Internal Ethernet (now works) and 3COM PCI 10/100 card (works) BIOS is configured exactly as called for in the Leopard Soup guide. I did one clean Mac-based install (erased partition) and found the problem described above. I did a 2nd install adding the JMicronATA kext as an add'l kext and the problem persisted. I did a 3rd install and stopped before installing the combo update and still got the problem. I've tried sleeping with the IDE port enabled, but no difference. Same result whether you start with a 10.5.1 or a 10.5.4 DVD. Same problem if you try the 10.5.6 combo update. I noticed that there is no mention of the JMicronATA kext in your guide or DS3L package. Is it no longer necessary? You referred to having had and then fixed this problem back in Nov. Have you stopped seeing it? Is there something else that fixed it? Your guide and PCWiz' work has, by far, led to the simplest and fastest installs. I am just so frustrated that I cannot get sleep functionality. While I could run just fine without ever sleeping, it just seems a lot more responsible not to waste energy. Thanks for any help or advice you can provide. i now managed to make my keyboard work. stumbled across another problem. when i try to change the screenresolution my computer screen just turns blue, and i have to restart. anyone have an idea why? followed the guide all the way. Do you have dual outputs on your video card? I had this problem and moved the video to the other output. Seems that OSX finds the right port at boot, but uses a fixed one after changing resolutions. Mind if I add this to my video tutorials? Don't worry about timing...I have close to 50 items on my to-do list. It's like that Calvin & Hobbes comic...I'm so far behind, I'll never die! Test video cards, setup a wiki, update the guide for 10.5.6, update the old Kalyway guide to .5 (or .6 now I guess) for those who don't want to upgrade, etc. etc. etc. Got a nice Intel Atom 230 motherboard plugin made. I'll pick up a dual-core Atom 330 board soon and make a plugin for that too. Just got the 10.5.6 MSI Wind plugin done, working on the audio stuff for it now to make it better. UD3P is next on the list. Go go Gadget go!
